Playing LONG, it challenges any level of golfer for sure! The course was in great shape with really nice greens, especially in January. The view was gorgeous and so peaceful! Now I am not the greatest golfer but with my experience and 15 handicap, I would definitely say you need to at least be able to make solid contact with the ball as the distance could be challenging to reach in par. If you are new, playing from anything beyond the whites should really be considered for better ball strikers because it truly is long and challenging and suited for the lower handicap or scratch players. Slow play will come into play if trying to play out of your element. It is quite forgiving but if you get into the woods, it is difficult to find the ball under the leaves which slows it even more. Definitely not a walking course and loads of hills/undulations all over the place. It is a very fun/challenging course and was worth the hour and 10 minute drive. I will definitely consider making my way at least once a year to experience the courses in the Williamsburg to Richmond area. Definitely a different ball game versus where I live.

Fairways and greens are in good shape. Bunkers no so much. I am a beginner golfer so no complains there. I hate hitting off bunkers anyways. Some of the holes can be pretty hard for high handicappers. Narrow fairways and lots of tees. You have to keep em straight. Some of the holes are so beautiful. Especially hole 9 and hole 18. They have some water hazard as well. They also have a driving range. I think they can do better by reducing tee time prices to attract more customers. Piankatank is a better course for the same price. By lowering price they may get more people to play. That's the only reason I am giving them 4 stars. Food is great here. They have a decent restroom with shower.

He cautioned me on the condition the course was in, and he was right. The Tides Inn should should be ashamed to let an otherwise decent layout get to this point. On the front side, the tee boxes are gone: just compacted dirt. Most of the bunkers have become unplayable waste areas. The cart path is really deteriorated. The greens weren't awful, but most had patches of completely different grasses. The condition on the back nine was better. Most of the tee boxes were good, and the fairways in better shape. This course has some beautiful holes, and the overall layout is fun and challenging, but so much work needs to be done to get this course back to a course I could recommend.

They have online prepaid reservation system. You could also call them and book via phone. The course layout is amazing. Few water holes and lots of tress in the front 9. Back 9 is stunning. Pretty open with wide fairways and a couple of holes have beautiful water views of the river. Very well maintained course. Absolutely worth the money. I got paired with a high school golfer who was with his dad practicing for the season. He made golf look easy. The weather was perfect as well. Between 68 to 70. They have a very nice restaurant with great food options as well. You can order ahead before you get to your turn. Highly recommend this course if you're in this area. Practice facility is decent as well.

Perhaps assign an experienced server to such a large group, not one who got the meals mixed up, or didn't check how we were enjoying our meals for the entire duration of our time. Greens nicely contoured and fun to read. It has really suffered over the last decade or so and my group booked a time with the understanding we wouldn't come back if it was in terrible shape. Short review is the greens have been almost restored to the shape they were in originally. Bunkers had nice sand (I hit enough to know). Most tees and fairways were just ok and were better than we expected although some bare spots exist and definitely winter rules are in effect. There were quite a few players out that day which was good to see. Based on the improvements of the greens and bunkers I give it three stars and would play here again soon. Hoping fairways/tees catch up. This was a jewel when it opened and I wish them luck bringing it back.
