I went to print out my CV and resume. I will say that it is not completely obvious to who I'm assuming isn't a regular that you need to scan your library card at the front before sitting at a computer. I was told by an occupant whose seat I was accidentally sitting in. An employee walked by overhearing the conversation and assisted in getting me checked in! This is more of an unfortunate complaint I have with the QPL app in general, but I had to reset my pin EIGHT times and the computer STILL wouldn't log me in! I used it fine at other branches, I'm not sure why it wasn't working here. Yet again another employee set me up and manually put me in. I got what I needed to get done, the interactions from the staff and crowds were wonderful. It's just the technology that needs some work! read more

I have always found the librarians to be extremely helpful & kind. I do most of my research online, then go there to pick up my books. Very easy process and convenient. I also use the Queens e-public library for audiobooks & e-books. read more

The librarianship profession is wonderful. I do have utmost respect for those who truly love books and dedicate their career around its atmosphere. However, I feel like majority of the librarians I've come across at the Queens Library branches growing up as a kid and now an adult are depressed and/or just plain rude. It's almost as if they never wanted to be librarians to begin with. It's been a while since I returned to the Jackson Heights branch. I used to frequent it with my little sister and we'd read books in the 2nd level childrens' floor. While the librarians were still a hit or miss, I really liked this library. Today my opinion changed. I came today with my friend who was visiting from abroad. I was giving a tour of the library and reminiscing to all my favorite childrens' books. Apparently when we went to take a seat, the librarian tells us we can't sit there unless we have kids. I never seen the library doing that before. Strange. However, I understood it might be so that random students or other adults don't hog up the tables and sit there with their laptops all day when it could be reserved for kids. However, there was literally only 2 other people in the entire floor (the library was closing in less than an hour too). Regardless, rules are rules so I didn't want to make a fuss. We finally found a corner by the glass windows and decide to sit on the floor and mind our own business, while going through some of my favorite books growing up. It wasn't even comfortable sitting on the floors but still, I wanted to respect the rules. Guess what happens next..... This "Karen" of a librarian (I kid you not, she gave Karen vibes) actually hunts us down and tells us we can't even sit there if we don't have kids. Huh???! Like I understand the tables but why the floor by the corner???! Again, it was Tuesday, around 5 ish pm and the 2nd floor was EMPTY (check the security cameras if you have to!!). Her reaction was over the top. Woman, if I had kids, I would never bring them near you. Anyways, total mood killer. We went downstairs and continued on with our business. I never had this bad of an experience before. I feel especially bad for my friend who probably has the impression that all American libraries are like this. It's not. As others have noted, the librarian in the 2nd floor children's section is rude. My husband and I visited today. We are writing a children's book, so we wanted to get some books for inspiration. I had books in my hand when this librarian told us we weren't allowed to be up there without a child unless we were getting books. When I indicated the books in my arms, she said that there was a "time limit." (Mind you, we were there less than 15 minutes.) What is this time limit, I'm wondering? Why is it not noted on the Queens Public Library website or written on any sign in the library? Basically, the whole interaction was so unnecessary. I have been to many libraries (including many children's sections) and never been made to feel as unwelcome as I did here. read more

I have been here many times. It's been ok; I would give a 3 but today this new librarian is very mean. We accidentally put a dvd dish in the wrong case so the machine didn't take it. So we went to ask for help. He was so annoyed that we needed help. The way he talked to us was with no respect at all. Therefore it's a two. Would I come back? I would buy if he talks to us like that again I will talk to his manager. Pretty good place for the kids to study or use the company if you don't need any help from the staff. Most of the staff have an attitude when you ask them for help. They're thinking we use the library for free and they're helping us is not a job. But they are getting paid to be librarians. If they're not satisfied with the pay or people asking for help then they need to find other jobs. Most of the tasks are done by machines already. They just want to sit behind the desk and get paid. read more

I believe that the library is definitely improved a lot. They have interlibrary loan and tons of test prep books. There are more quiet periods so one can get studying done or finish an excerpt. Other times, you hear cell phone conversations which I find distracting. What I noticed is that they have helpful librarians, and there are always ladies at the front ready to assist me with any questions. I also borrowed a computer to print out my lesson plans, and I was able to do without much hassle. I do wonder if I could use the scanner. It is a great resource in the neighborhood. read more

Awful service from the front desk woman. She was an African American woman who had the rudest way of speaking and when I asked her for help, she made my situation worse. I needed to check out my book and didn't receive an email receipt once I checked out and when I asked her she said you can adjust it because if you check it out twice I noticed it the due date time would be decreased. She still went ahead and checked it out the second time and i told her it's no longer renewable and the time decreased. Without accepting her mistake and apologizing, she said "yes, yes it did". She's an awful representative and should not be working anywhere with that kind of service and attitude. I don't understand what makes people think hiring such people for their business helps. I almost clocked a bitch here today. Jesus christ the employees here are the absolute fucking worst. At their best, they are apathetic. At their worst, they are hateful, rude assholes. The one redeeming staff member is the head librarian, a lovely lady who always makes recommendations and compliments book choices. The selection is minimal. I only come when my requested books have arrived from other branches. In the summer the lines at the checkout are ridiculously long, as the self-checkout system is apparently very confusing to many people. This branch could have made your life easier, or even fun, if you lived nearby or had enough business in the area to frequent, on top of this one is bigger than other branches in the system. Alas, the reality is the very opposite so beware if you have to run errands here for any service you might need one day. Over the course of time, this branch stuck out as the ghettoest of the ghetto. I am sure the patrons are not the greatest to serve in the whole borough. But still, why are the clerks this lowly trained? One of the male workers behind a counter --young black male who would compulsively lie so much to neglect patrons--had his pants slung so low that half of his ass, no, underwear distastefully revealed as he was giving all the wrong instructions to clueless yet trusting poor patrons. When I saw those hapless patrons leave without having their needs met, the ass, no, underwear baring authority behind the counter surely came across laughable. But this really was wrong. Why do you still keep this ass baring imbecile, Queens Public Library? Despite the negative enough prior experiences that I had, I had to come here the other day to use some of their newly launched device/gadget lending services and this was one of the closest location to me where the particular service was provided. After interacting with one of the clerks, I became somewhat so worried to sing up for the particular service that would require you to surrender your highly sensitive info to these workers so ill-trained, or untrained at all, and acting extremely unprofessional. Apparently they didn't seem to fit to handle this type of responsibilities. After having made patrons to sign some kind of contract that 'might' generate liabilities--I surely hope it would not incur any but still we never know--, do they really think they could refuse to furnish a set of copy of the signed documents, when requested? If so, they should know that it is bordering 'unlawful.' I insisted and received what was my legal rights and what I rightfully deserved to be equipped with. I secured a copy of the docs that I signed but still, how much the clerk who handled the process was reluctant to do so and gave me a great hassle with peculiarly condescending attitude was noteworthy. IT WOULD BE UNLAWFUL if the doc issuing party refused to furnish the docs' copy that they made the other party to SIGN. Simple as that. 6 days a week, late openings at 1 on tuesdays and not on Sundays (get your movies on Thursday to take advantage of that extra day). 3 computer locations for a total of about 16 altogether. Wireless is available, but they limit the laptops to half of a desk next to one of the computer stations. It can get cramped there, they should open it up to at least an entire table. Why do they have to lump all the computer people together? Why can't laptops roam free? Isn't it against the laptop way of life to be religated to a small, permissible area? They either have a small dvd collection or a high turnover, but if you are hip to Indian or Spanish language dvds you will more than quadruple your available selection. For the amount of English titles they do have, there are a good number of classic and newly interesting films. The staff seems strained spread thin by the number of people asking for help. these aren't your old library ladies sitting on their hands all day. Once you become self-sufficient, the library runs pretty well. The self-serve check out counters are magic - when they work. I still don't fully understand how it sees all the books I have, there's gotta be a magnetic something on there somewhere, but where? I might have to suffer a lost item fine for the sake of scientific curiosity. Order is done by approximation. Dewey Decimal would roll over in his grave if he tried to find a book or movie here. Alphabet? What? I like this library because of the amount of people that go here. Finally, my tax dollars are being used to fruition. But, oh, no water fountain, wtf? what kind of public institution is this? read more

The selection is not so good, unless you're looking for bestsellers. And I'm a little weirded out by the automatic check out. That said, for a public library, this place is clean, quite well-organized, and has great hours of which even working stiffs with 9 - 5 or 10 - 6 jobs can take great advantage. Plus, the ease of using the Queens Library website and requesting books to be held at whatever branch you want, easily solves the selection issue. The DVD selection is not great, but when I've run out of Netflix, I've always found at least one thing I'd like to watch. All in all, not a bad public library and definitely one of the plusses about the Jackson Heights area. read more

After pandemic.I have had a bad experience with the librarian on the second floor (kids section ) she is rude.When Me and my kids ask her about the program for kids she doesn't want to answer.and when I visited today I didn't know about the rules that I can't pick up phone call ( by FaceTime) And she Think I make a vdo for my kids at the library but I said no I didn't but she complain no you shouldn't do that maybe I make a mistake but just talk nice my kids scared and asked why she talk like this.I want to take my kids to the library and we always go here but now I feel I don't want to take my kids here because of the librarian.and I saw some parents there they took a picture of the kids but she not complain and my kids wanted to coloring and they took the color only 1 but another parents came and sat with my table and she took everything but the librarian came to complain me that I'm not took it and when I said not me she never say sorry.it very bad experience here so I hope at the library should change another people to work here that she love kids. read more

I have such a positive experience here every time I come. I come here about twice per week. Ms. Batchler is always so helpful and always answers any questions I have, she always has a smile and always goes extra lengths to help me out. She is wonderful. Jay who works here as well is also so helpful. She helped me with a few questions I had and gave me insight in to available resources I did not know about. Always with a smile as well. Help this library!! The two stars are for the physical plant- not the staff! The place is antiquated and way too small for this community. All too crowded and not enough current books. You are tripping over people sitting in the aisles because all of the seats are taken. This community is overdue for an upgrade. Someone said they tried before and the price tag of $50million was too much money for the system. Was the design made with gold bricks? Please something can be improved here without breaking the bank. East Elmhurst's new library on the other hand looks amazing. Jackson Heights next, please! read more

My love of books and reading was fostered and developed here. At a young age, I got my first library card. I would come once a week, my hand in my grandpa's, and slowly worked my way from the kid's section to the young adults and beyond. Library policy was a maximum of 25 books, and there were many times when i took the full 25, and devoured them in my room during the week, only to return and exchange them for 25 more shortly thereafter. Loving this branch! It was the second one I went to after the East Elmhurst branch and I have to say that this is one of the best besides flushing because like flushing, it has a second-floor that you can go to for the more "children's activities" and a quieter relaxing reading but still, just like the first floor you'll also be hearing the same atmosphere just more calm on weekdays and they got a great selection of more collection books then in any other area when considering Jackson Heights and the perfect spot with all the trees outside in a nice settling, quiet neighborhood and still with the noise atmosphere in the streets. Five stars for great service and bestsellers they have as a collection! read more

This is the library that I go to since it's close to home. I don't spend much time in here. I usually use their website to locate the books I want to reserve. If they don't have it in stock you can request an inter-library loan for the title you want. They email or mail you a notice when the book is available and you go an pick it up. It's quite an easy process and very convenient! read more

This library is A-OK. It is rather small, but it has a relatively good selection for its size. It has internet access and a helpful staff. There is also a large Spanish, Korean and Chinese section. There is a smaller section for other foreign languages like Russian and Punjabi. A decent library that serves the community. read more

I was recently at the Jackson Heights branch and was disappointed that I had to ask three homeless men to be lower their voices, and when I went to the restroom the stench that another seemingly homeless person left behind was somewhat offensive. Look, I realize that homelessness is among us and a huge undertaking for NYC but its not fair to patrons. The library should not be a shelter. read more

I used to come here every Saturday during my elementary school years. I would use the computers as I didn't have one until 2005. However, when my grandpa got sick, I stopped going there on a regular basis, only going there to use their Microsoft Word program as my old laptop didn't have it. Now, I don't go there anymore as I can use the one at the college to complete homework or to do research. read more

all the employees here hate their lives. except for the head librarian (i think), they are all pretty rude and miserable. i only come to this library to pick up books i've requested on reserve, but i still have had weird experiences and have overheard 10 more which make me wonder why these people choose to work in the public sector. still, the facility is nice and cool, and they have a decent travel section on hand. i still find that i have to request 99% of my books from another library though. c'est la vie read more

On the plus side, it's clean and relatively quiet, usually not too crowded, and there's free WiFi. On the negative side, the book selection is a bit out of date and gives off the impression of being largely composed of donations. I use it as a place to pick up books that I've requested from the library's online system. I'm sure they are busy doing other librarian things, but the staff don't seem to have customer service very high on their priority list, and if you ask questions they seem pretty put out to go out of their way to help or answer you. Case in point: I recently went in because 5 books we had requested were ready for pickup. It was 5:58 pm and the library was closing at 6:00 so the librarian urged us to hurry. I hurriedly picked up the 5 books and was in the middle of checking out, fumbling for library cards, apologizing to them, etc. I succeeded in checking out 3 of the 5 books, when the librarian takes the remaining 2. Librarian: I'm turning off the computer now [*click*] Me: Um... But... We... Librarian: Sorry. I told you to hurry up. We are closing now. You can come pick them up tomorrow. Me: But today was the last day to pick those up. Librarian (looking at books): Hmm. You're right. Me: So... Librarian: Oh well. You'll have to request them again. 6:00. On the dot. Well. They're punctual when it comes to closing down. Spent the walk home trying to explain to my 3-1/2 year old "why the librarian wouldn't let us have those books."
