A cute little neighborhood library with everything you'd need…read more It may not have a massive selection, but it has all of the options you'd require from a modern library - you have about a dozen computer terminals and multiple (free) printing stations that you can log into, a whole bunch of movies on DVD/Blu Ray to take home, a comics/manga section for kids (and kid-like adults like myself), magazines, and of course plenty of books around. They routinely put up notices for classes and programs for the local community - Chess club, English Conversation groups, Music, mobile device classes, creative writing, you name it. The hours are about what you'd expect from a normal NYC library - open most days until about 6:00 pm, closed on weekends. I come here semi-often and the staff are always friendly and helpful. I'm glad this is here for the local community and that we have this as a go-to option for learning or relaxation.

While my goddaughter was able to do her research on her own , I roamed around and felt a bite nostalgia like as I looked around . Glad the public library is still around and a great resource to have regardless of ones age . There is an excellent children and teenage book selection along with the standard free internet stations are ample for library patrons. Staff is very friendly and welcoming for the island's hospitality. It sits visible on the major road, Cross Bay Boulevard and easily accessible by the Q21, Q52, or Q53 buses as I've seen it many times en route to my high school in the Rockaway Peninsula. This is my very first visit inside and I'm happy for a jewel find. The building's circular but small structure piqued my interest, amid it's real far distance from mainland Queens, but the quiet atmosphere calls for finding time to sit and read in seclusion away from the world. The branch altogether is small but I'm sure I would need to request a book from the branch if I needed it. Ambience - 3: The adult section and children's section alike are small. There are only four long tables, two cushioned lounge chairs with a table in the center and a counter prioritized for laptop users (their wifi sucks, by the way); all of this is on the adult side. I've never actually walked to the children's section but from what I've seen looking from the entrance way, they have much more going for them. The library is not quiet at all. If you want to get work done, bring your headphones. It's ridiculous that people pick up phone calls or have conversations there. Other than, it's a place to do homework away from home. Location - 5: It's convenient because of the distance from my house to library. There are also convenience stores, a laundromat, mini-malls, etc. close by the library. They are currently doing construction so you may miss the entrance since it is covered with scaffolding. Do not speed past it.

You can request material for loan online and get notified when it's at the branch ready for pickup. They are open six days a week. Staff members are a bit abrupt. I returned a loaned item at the automated return slot, and it was not read properly so it was still on my account as checked out. I brought it to the attention of a staff member to be corrected, and he acted like I was bothering him. Whatever happened to service with a smile?

The selection of books are pretty decent, but if a book or reading material are at another branch, they can always be reserved and picked up at a different location. And that's what I did so I Stopped by one day to pick up a book that was on reserve and there was a jazz concert going on. Stayed for the 1 hr show, which was a nice surprise. Asked the manager to advertise on Facebook because it was a nice treat for FRee, and more neighborhood people should have attended.... Hope there are more events held there in the future
