My six year old niece asked for fun books to read so I went right to the children's section. A sales associate offered help and guided me to some books I thought she'd enjoy. And of course I had to pick up the discounted Christmas cards for book lovers for next year. During the pandemic, my recipients seem to have enjoyed getting a card in the mail, like old times. As a fan of actual books- I still don't have an e-reader, I recommend Barnes and Noble. They have ebooks also. Toys and games, planners, and calendars here too.

The attached Starbucks cafe upstairs is great for grabbing a light refreshment. Baristas behind the counter can help you make drinks that meet the familiar Starbucks standard. Cookies and pastries can be heated to order on site. Pro tip, almost always with your store purchase, you will get a coupon for a dollar off something in the cafe. They found it quickly and reserved it for me as my mom who lives quite far away will have to pick it up. I didn't feel rushed off the phone even when I spoke in Konglish. The value of the book was FAR MORE than responsible for it being Korean and not the translated version. I haven't been in the store physically, but can't wait to when I visit parents again.

Not her words...her tone and demeanor. SMH. Another employee, right nearby, assisted me, found the book in seconds and was on his way. No...I didn't buy it. Principle. I passed her again later and got another dirty look....really? Another issue entirely...is there a good reason that there are novels...many novels.... in the religion section? Inquiring minds would like to know. I hadn't been in this store in quite some time...won't return any time soon. Changed and not for the better. My first question was what I ask all used bookstores -- did they had a philosophy section, but "very little or no humanities", according to Ray Harley, the owner. "What we do have is Baseball and American history." Both of which they have in abundance. He wasn't kidding. Shelves and shelves of books on the sport -- I mean, if you're into all things baseball, this is a literary treasure trove). In addition to American history. I also found a decent section on Jewish and U.S. Catholic history as well. The store itself was a study in chaos; apparently they were unearthing a lot of material from the cellar, so boxes and boxes everywhere which required some nimble navigation of the stacks. But what was shelved themselves was fairly organized. It's definitely a good place for browsing. Pricing: specializing in old, rare and out-of-print, most books on the shelf that I found were in the $20-25 range. There are a everal $1 carts out front where I found some pleasant surprises. Takeaways (nice haul): - The Mission: A Film Journal by Daniel Berrigan, S.J. -- regarding the making of one of my favorite movies. However, the selection of other Chinese goods was still sizable and impressive. I saw a lot of unique items like diffusers and cultural products that I haven't come across in other shops. I think they might have had some furniture pieces too, but the focus was definitely on smaller home goods and accessories. The best part was the value. Despite the low prices, the quality of the goods I looked at was really good, nothing felt flimsy or poorly made. Without looking up my order they glanced at my return slip and told me it was already out of the return window. Then they told me the return window starts from the order date, not the delivery date. Big WTF... the item took 6 days just to arrive! How are customers supposed to return something they don't even have yet? On top of that, the staff were rude and careless. They took the game console out of the box to inspect it, and didn't even bother to rewrap it in the bubble wrap how it came. There were only one other customers in the store, but three employees were just wandering around, barely looking at my return slip and refusing to look up my order in their system. They said their boss "wouldn't allow the return." Basically anything to not assist me. Unprofessional, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. This was a terrible experience and a huge disappointment.
