A friend brought me to this place in Durham. They serve good, authentic Mexican food which is very affordable. Fast and friendly service. Outdoor seating only if you want to dine there. It's cool to find that you can actually order online - that explains the folks who were coming in and out quickly when we visited.

    Burrito texano. So good!

This place is a hidden gem. I was in town for the holidays from Texas but wanted Authentic Mexican food. I liked on Yelp and came across this place. I got the Asada Burrito and a Carnitas taco. Both were legit Mexican, not TexMex that people consider Mexican. Their Salsas are also legit. Don't sleep on those salsas. Great flavor.

Awesome place in Durham. Great place to set outside and enjoy the weather. Food is authentic and great. $3 tacos

Authentic. Delicious. Affordable. Three words that describe this amazing taqueria! I was told about this spot from a friend and said it is a must visit and it so is. Taqueria La Vaquita is tiny meaning if you blink you will miss this gem on the corner. The gem is a larger trailer with two windows and menus on the outside detailing all the goodness they have going on inside. There is outside seating, but they have to go options as well. I decided to get three tacos with all beans and chips and salsa. The three tacos I got was the Pollo, al pastor, and beef. Wow!! The tacos are small, but pack a lot of flavor in each bite. The meat is grilled to perfection with the cilantro, cabbages, and onions making a great side appearance as well. They give you just enough food to satisfy and a little left over to fill that satisfaction again! Such a great go to spot!! A must while in the Durham area!

We went here due to Yelp and trying to find a place to eat. This place is hidden in the forest and sort of like a food truck experience. It is outdoor dining. The prices are a little up their in price compared to in Texas. I got the tripa, tongue taco and I can not recall the other one plate. It came with rice and beans. It does take awhile for you to get the food as I think we waited 20 minutes for our food. You can order ahead of time as well. The food was good, but it is something I can get here in Dallas. I am sure this place serves the community well

Atmosphere: Taqueria La Vaquita is a cute local stand with outdoor seating. People may recognize the iconic cow on the roof, and the outdoor area makes for a lovely meal out on a sunny day. Service: We ordered at the counter, and our food came out relatively quickly for pickup! Food: We ordered the Enchiladas en Salsa Verde and the Carne Asada Plate. The Enchiladas en Salsa Verde were decent - we would've liked a bit more chicken, but it tasted great otherwise. The Carne Asada Plate was also pretty good. The grilled pineapples and jalapeños made the dish extra flavorful, and the portions overall were filling. Overall: We enjoyed our experience at Taqueria La Vaquita. The food was solid and the atmosphere was humble and comfortable. Not quite the mind blowing, 5-star experience that some of our friends have raved about, but nevertheless we think that everyone should try out this local favorite!

First Mexican spot I visited in Durham and it was delish! Hole in the wall place with authentic, top tier and loaded tacos. We ordered through a small window and sat on the picnic tables outside! We tried: Carne Asada, Pastor, and Lengua tacos with rice and beans - Pastor was my favorite, followed by asada and then lengua! First time trying lengua aka beef tongue and it's an acquired taste imo 3 Pastor tacos with rice and beans - Yummy Will definitely come back to try their other items! We also got homemade raspado or Mexican style snow cone which tasted like sweetened condensed milk + peanut butter + ice at the neighboring small Mexican store and it was pretty refreshing for the weather :)

Holy moly! This is one of those places where you take the first bite and it makes you feels like you're dreaming. I warn you, don't let the location fool you. You are in a for a treat. I was surprised that I was the only one there at 5:00 p.m. on a Thursday but I spoke too soon. People kept coming! I ordered the 3 tacos special. It came with a side of rice and bean. Although the wait took 20 minutes, it was worth every bite! The food is made to order and fresh. When I opened my box of goodness, it already foreshadowed what was to come. The tacos were amazing with the green sauce. The rice and bean were also a hit! How can it be so good? I am happy to discover this restaurant and vow to be a loyal customer. Overall, the customer service was good. This is a special place, please support them!

Their Queseda birilla is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had - must try! Will be coming back

    Chilaquiles!

I loved my tacos at La Vaquita, and I'd highly recommend this spot for tacos specifically. I was so excited to see chilaquiles on the menu that I immediately ordered chilaquiles in salsa verde with chicken, and they were good with a generous portion, but I am so glad I added a taco at the last minute to my order--the tacos al pastor were absolutely incredible! I lived in Mexico City for a couple of years so can be picky when I get Mexican food in the US, but the tacos at La Vaquita are the real deal! And it helps that the place is locally owned and the staff are attentive and friendly, going out of their way to be sure you are satisfied. The friends I went with nearly all got tacos, and they all looked delicious (including the vegetarian trio). They also got several orders of flan, which I had some tastes of and really enjoyed. But I must underscore again that it is the tacos at La Vaquita that are to die for. The next time a craving for tacos hits, especially if it's a day with nice weather (note that seating is picnic tables with minimal sheltering above), I will be back for more!

Great food, reasonable prices. No indoor seating on a cold day so carry-out was required for me.

Can you call in your order ahead of time?

You can order online, but it's cumbersome. We waited a LONG time for someone to finally take our order over the phone. We were on hold for 10-15 minutes.

Where I am from you can get a shredded beef burrito anywhere but they are hard to find here. We walked in and I was surprised to see that you order at the counter and it seems most of their business is takeout. They did allow us to sit at a table to order though. The waiter did not bring us anything. No chips. No salsa. No napkins. No silverware. I asked if they have salsa and they then brought out chips and salsa. I asked for silverware and napkins after our food arrived and they then brought out those things. We ordered bean dip and they brought out what I would describe as a bowl of water. Both the beans and the cheese were so runny that it was impossible to get either beans or cheese to stay on the chip long enough to deliver to your mouth. Total fail. How can bean dip be messed up? I was still excited for my shredded beef burrito to come. That excitement and any hopes I had for this place went way out the window when the man came back and plopped a shredded chicken burrito down in front of me. Definitely not what I ordered! I literally went there because they have shredded beef burritos, as least their menu says they do. I ate some of the shredded chicken burrito that I did not order and simply quietly boxed up the rest feeling too defeated to eat or complain. Speaking of the menu, they charged significantly more for every single item than the price that was listed on the menu. Once again I did not complain. I was so ready to leave. The horrible bean dip, three tacos for my husband, and a burrito that I did not order cost us $60. Never again.
