I don't mind giving some times or engaging in a friendly hello, but I do for myself not making eye contact too often in certain environments. I like the convenience the most. It sits right on Atlantic and century 21 and either way you go the neighborhood can become shaky, so just keep your eyes wide open and be aware of your surroundings. It's also great that they're constantly cleaning, picking up trash or doing something in the store, and it's much cleaner than some of the other places in the area. Happy Yelping....

This massive, brand new grocery store has everything you need in a grocery store…read more It's got all the things you expect a grocery store to have: Fresh fruit, vegetables, poultry, fish, meat, canned goods, cleaning products, toiletries, cheese, jams, eggs, chips, milk, salsa, and much, much more. It's an actual supermarket, with all the things that come with that. Even a large prepared food section, with pizza, sushi, a hot food bar, and more. It's got lots of things you may not expect a grocery store to have: Souvenirs, sunscreen, stuffed animals, etc. It also has at least one thing you might not even expect an island grocery store to stock, whether or not you consider it to be an oxymoron: Vegan cheese. It's basically got all the things we've got at home. And just like at home, my kids will fight over everything in the store, and scream their little heads off when I don't buy them the snacks they want. I'm glad it's here.

I'd imagine the piece of meat hanging next to that heat lamp should be keeping it warm. Maybe not? Haven't gotten it in a while, anyway. Kind of hard to spot this place if you have never been. It's behind the Zen restaurant, or whatever restaurant name it's changed to because it's been called 3 different names in the past couple years. Plenty of parking once you find it. Always a great thing in my opinion.

You order at a kiosk near the deli, it shows you an order number on the screen when you finish (it's not on your receipt), then you take your receipt to the store's main cashier and pay (I forgot to pay until my wife asked if I'd paid). They call your number when your order is up. You can get free water: take a yellow cup and one of the sodas (fruit punch, I believe) has a water button next to it: run it for a bit to clean out the soda before getting your water. The napkins are rather hidden, on the side of the island next to the one that has the plasticware. The setting is just a few white formica tables, in the middle of the store, so below average but an acceptable place to eat. The bathroom was decent. We got a salad with chicken salad on top ($8) and a soft-serve ice cream cup with chocolate sauce ($2.17). The salad was decent, though my wife didn't like it. The ice cream was decent; my wife really liked it, but it wasn't up to Dreamette or Culver's quality. It was $10.93 for our two items. They have various prepared takeout items, and I'd like to try their croissant sandwiches sometime. I probably won't be back other than for that, or maybe an occasional ice cream treat.

They're truly one of Jacksonville's OG healthy supermarkets -- long before Whole Foods and Trader Joe's came to town. I love discovering local gems that have been part of the Jacksonville community for so many years. If you haven't been to Grassroots in a while, it might be time to stop by and see what's new! Not in a bad way, but in that unmistakable health-food-store aroma that tells you there are herbs, oils, supplements, organic everything, and probably someone blending wheatgrass in the back with spiritual conviction. I walked in thinking I'd grab a couple of health bars or maybe a smoothie, and suddenly I found myself in what felt like a live-action documentary about modern hippie culture. Real hippies. I'm talking long dreads, natural fabrics, calm serene smiles, and an energy that says they own a crystal collection and know each crystal by name. The vibe inside was amazing. Everyone looked like they were on their own personal wellness quest, floating around the aisles with purpose, shopping carts full of things I didn't even know existed. I felt like I needed to level up spiritually just to stand near the kombucha section. And the café area had this cozy, earthy coolness to it that almost convinced me to sit down and contemplate the meaning of life over a smoothie bowl. The whole experience was wild in the best possible way. Grassroots Natural Market wasn't just a store that day. It was a full-on immersion into the hippie heart of Jacksonville, and honestly, it was fabulous.

The customer service is always great and it's so convenient to run in and run out if you forgot to get something from the bigger stores in the area.
