This place got a name change. Use to be called Hung Thinh Supermarket. I liked that name... Sounded dirty. Anyway. Asian Square Supermarket has a great selection of anything Asian. Mostly great. The meats and seafood selection isn't all that though, but the dry and frozen selection beats a couple of other Asian markets I've been to in the area. Prices are good too. They do serve warm food as well. I will say though... The last couple times I've gotten the pork belly, it was room temperature. I'd imagine the piece of meat hanging next to that heat lamp should be keeping it warm. Maybe not? Haven't gotten it in a while, anyway. Kind of hard to spot this place if you have never been. It's behind the Zen restaurant, or whatever restaurant name it's changed to because it's been called 3 different names in the past couple years. Plenty of parking once you find it. This is really quite well stocked offering a large variety of Asian staples, Asian produce, sauces and canned foods. They even have a section where they have prepared foods ready to eat and ready to go. Quite a generous and large parking lot although it was completely full when we arrived. Overall a good source as an Asian supermarket. read more

The food here is such a hidden gem in JAX. Inside the supermarket behind a pho restaurant, the little deli counter sells duck, pork, and bahn mi!!! The bahn mi is large, with fresh bread, vegetables, and stuffed tightly with ingredients! The bread was definitely baked either this morning or the day prior because it was SO soft. Additionally, the veggies in bahn mi usually have more of a pickled taste, but these tasted not as pickled and more fresh. Reasonably priced as well. For a pound of pork, it was only $8. The pork was so well seasoned, and tender! Rich flavor but not too salty as I expected. Probably the best char sui you would get in Jax. The grocery store itself isn't the most organized, but there's a lot of classic Asian goodies, with a bakery section as well, lots of baked goods to include Swiss roll cake! read more

Half of the things were not priced. Some of the things that I bought were priced at 5.58$ or so. it was not over 6$. when I went to the register, it rang up at over 8$ . I fig my tan for those items were going to be about 16.50$, nope it was over 26$. so he made a 10$ extra on something that is marked wrong on the box. they seem not to check the prices and you have to be the customer and the price checker yourself. That store is my old faithful store, but since that, I will not be coming back. Inflation is one thing, but that was not the price that was on the box. I had mentioned something about the price and he said it was 8.xx$ each bag. he did not even question why I had mentioned it. If a customer ask, there must be a reason behind it, but in his case, I gues i's just another dumb question. read more

I wish I had taken photos. I love this place! The best crispy pork belly of all! They have all the tools and dishes you need too. The only drawback back is its behind a Pho place on Normandy Blvd. I would have never found it without using apple map. Very worth your time to go and shop there. Very nice people too! read more

The 4th star is because there's not too many places that sell crispy roast pork or whole duck. It was a last minute decision to come here today as it's about a 30 min drive. It's set back from the main road so it's a weird left turn coming from 295. The gentleman who chopped up the roasted meat was gentle. Feel like I'm missing a lot of the pork skin... The roast duck had a red tinge from food coloring? It's missing the authentic taste of Chinese roast duck but it's as good as you're gonna get in Jax tbh. $31 for the whole duck and $10.99 lb for crispy roast pork. The produce and dry goods were definitely higher than other Asian stores but they have a monopoly in the area so they can do that. I also picked up a tea cup. I liked their selection of serve ware and utensil. It's a Vietnamese store and they have a good selection of snacks but also have a small selection of other Asian products too. read more

If you're looking for authentic Bahn mi look no further. They are like $7 each and buy 5 get 1 free. You will not be disappointed with the French bread and the overflowing fillings. Great Asian grocery on the Westside. They have some hot food here, they have a meat counter, they have produce, they have Shirataki noodles. There is a huge selection of rice and noodles and dry goods. Always have something on sale. There's notes all over the place from different people offering services. Seems like it's the community bulletin board. The owner is a cool guy. Very helpful and willing to order whatever you want. I love to get my bags of seaweed snacks here. I believe they also have lottery. Funny story, I came in here last year and they had gotten a case of crawfish or maybe two or three and they had a big bowl of fresh crawfish out on the checkout counter so you could see them. They were still alive so I asked the guy if I could buy a couple for my fish tank which she thought was very funny but he threw a few in a bag and didn't even charge me for it and they lasted for years LOL. Fun little pets. That's the kind of place this is. Never know what you might find. read more

It comes with its own dipping sauce, but I recommend buying a bottle of Mang Tomas (typically known as lechon sauce) sold here as well for dipping instead. So flavorful! This Asian supermarket reminds me a lot of the one in Connecticut (if you're curious, it's located in West Hartford). Since moving to Jax, I needed to find a place similar so I can get all my goodies whenever I am craving to make a Cambodian dish, as well to get all the typical Asian cookware and dish ware for my house, lol. That was a MUST. So I learned of Hung Thinh after posting on Yelp talk when I first moved here (that's to those who have responded!). When I came here, I was delighted to find that they have (just about) everything. I was able to pick up some more cookware and a box of my favorite, authentic Raman noodles that I grew up eating. There is a large selection of fresh Asian produce and a fresh seafood area, as well as a "deli and bbq" are where you can get banh mi, roast pork or duck. There are some prepared baked goods and desserts in this area as well. They carry some Asian brand beers such as Sapporo and Singha. Of course, they even have Heineken (preferred by many Cambodians lol). For such a large place, every time I come, it seems very dead. There are always only a few other customers in the store. Some areas are a bit disorganized, especially where the rice and cookware are. There are plenty of hand baskets, but if you're making a big shopping trip, good luck finding a cart (or buggy if that's what you call it) as they are scattered all over the parking lot or around the store. Basically, I only come when I'm on this side of town for something else. Jax is very large with many other Asian groceries all over, but Hung Thinh is a great place to get most Asian products if you have a big list or live close by. read more

I've been here twice now. Despite the size of the store I wasn't impressed on my first visit mainly because prices were not marked on over 1/2 the products but I figured I give it another try. 2nd visit; I couldn't get over this same issue. In addition to this, prices are a bit high and the quality is questionable (specifically their frozen food). I purchased some red bean buns that looked like it's been in the garbage except the pkg was sealed. It's in the garbage now bc there's no way is it edible. A few other frozen items looks like they've been sitting there for awhile due to the ice build up. On the plus side they have a great deal on lemongrass - $1/bundle but that's not enough to bring me back. read more

Great Asian market on the west side. They have Char Sui, which is essential for making authentic fried rice. They apparently cook Char Sui and Peking Duck once a week, it's available on weekends. WOW! This place is cool! I was mesmerized when I first entered this Vietnamese grocery store and exclaimed "WOW! You could spent hours in here!" Realistically, it only took us 30 minutes to peruse and to find what we were looking for. We had a grocery list to find the following: 1. Udon Noodles 2. Bento Box accessories 3. Candied Ginger Out of our list of 3, I only found the Candied Ginger. I got really excited when I saw all the Tapioca/Boba Pearls for sale and was eager to make my own Taro Boba Tea! I thought it would be a special treat for Labor Day for my family. Alas, even though there is an entire aisle devoted to tea at Hung Thinh, I could not find any Taro Powder or Taro Tea. I also didn't see any wide straws one uses for Boba Tea. I was bummed I couldn't find any Udon Noodles there. There was an entire aisle devoted to Vermicelli noodles but no Udon. I realize that this is a Vietnamese grocery store but there are items to make Sushi there so I was hoping they'd branch out for other noodles as well since I cannot find Udon at Publix either. The employees we talked to were very friendly and buying a Bánh mì sandwich for $3.50 was quite a deal! I was tickled pink when I saw Durian for sale in the refrigerator department. I remember this massive spikey fruit when it was on Cutthroat Kitchen as part of a challenge! Too cool and only $4.25 if you were interested in cooking with it! read more

This market has a great selection of Asian ingredients. I can usually find what I am looking for if I don't feel like driving to the Japanese store towards the beaches. They have a good selection of meats, fish and produce. They have a nice selection of rice. The roast pork is great and makes a fantastic dinner over rice. It has enough for two, easily. The prices are fair and they have a good selection of pots, pans and cookware. They also have serving dishes and utensils as well as electric rice cookers however they don't carry my favorite brand, Zojirushi. The store is usually fairly clean and there are boxes of extra items that won't fit in the shelves. I can easily walk around in here for a good 30-45 minutes and just have fun walking around. If your looking for something in particular give this place a try. read more

I can find almost everything Asian I need here. I am a sucker for instant ramen ( I know, don't judge) but they don't always have a huge variety. That's okay, cause I like to try out other places too. They have all the Staples I need and it's close enough. They always have fresh vegetables and meats and seafood. Sometimes they have fresh snacks or desserts. I am not aware of their schedule because I come in once every two months or so. But the owners are really nice and helpful. So if you need your Asian wares and you live close by, come check them out. The prices are good and it's a much larger store than most. Open until 9pm 6 days a week. read more

Hung Thinh Supermarket's new location is a bit hidden. It's located on the other side of Normandy Blvd. It's still probably the largest Asian grocery store in Jacksonville. I like their large aisles. You don't have to worry about cart traffic, lol. They sell fresh produce, Asian herbs, balut/ hot vit lon/ or the half-hatched duck eggs, among other Asian groceries. It's primarily a Vietnamese grocery store, but it also carry items from other Asian cultures. For instance, they have seaweed wraps, sushi making items and seasonings for Filipino foods. The meats/seafood section is worth checking out. They sell congealed blood, pretty fresh seafood, and meats at fairly competitive prices. I like checking the housewares section because there are some really interesting cooking utensils for sale. Aside from chopsticks, scary butcher knives, and incense, there's even a rice paper drying tray. If you're trying to make dumplings and need a steam tray, they have that too. They also sell pre-made foods; a limited assortment of street foods like banh cuon, goi cuon, etc. There's a banh mi ( Vietnamese sammiches, hehe) station here also. If you're in the mood for some roast pork/duck/offal, they got you covered bro. read more

Not that impressed. For one, they apparently no longer do the range of Viet snacks, meats, and such at their deli anymore... The deli appears closed down more or less. Their overall selection of products also pales in comparison to Viet grocers in Orlando but may be OK for Jacksonville Idk. Poor quality roasted duck...drive nearly 30 minutes to be disappointed. Ordered a whole duck...please explain why there were three legs?! No wings?? Lukewarm?! Feel like they just gave me leftovers from other orders. Too expensive for such low quality. I've been here a couple of times with my Husband (who is Vietnamese). We love this store and wish it was closer to where we live. This market reminds us of the big Vietnamese supermarkets you find in Little Saigon in California. They have tons of Vietnamese stuff, but the one thing we really enjoy getting is their BBQ Duck! If you walk to the back of the store (on the left hand side) you will find that they sell whole BBQ ducks! It's awesome. We usually get a half duck and they will cut it up for you and put it in a to- go box. They also give you banquettes and sauce. It's great! They don't have places for you to sit inside so just to take it home or to a park and enjoy! read more

Thank you fellow Yelper Bill (and whoever tipped him off) about the new address! Just so you know, the new location is hidden behind the Arby's. There is only one driveway to their parking lot that is directly across Normandy from the Krystal's driveway, so keep your eyes peeled when you're getting close. Overall, this is the largest Asian market I have seen in Jacksonville with a staffed seafood and fresh meats counter. I give this place 4 stars for having such a complete market - meats, seafood, produce, freezers, cooked meat counter (with some roast pork and duck that I saw), non-perishable items, housewares, and rice. There were other prepared foods by the registers, such as Vietnamese jelly dessert drinks and fried dough/crullers. Given the way the place looked when I walk in, however, I would normally only give 3 stars. I expected the place to be in a state of disarray when I walked in, knowing that they had recently moved to this location. There was a messy area upfront by the registers that I hope will be cleared away soon. The selection of Asian vegetables was okay, but a little sparse looking. The green onions were sad. In another aisle, I found all the fresh herbs for noodle soups and whatnot. The meat section was sparse as well and the seafood counter hadn't been stocked yet. There were several freezer aisles with lots of different things -- various seafood, snails, coconut & cassava meat, as well as frozen lumpia, dumplings, wrappers, noodles (a wide array of egg, rice, and flour noodles!). Along the far wall were different rice cookers, pots, bamboo steamers, and hot pots. No hot water makers, I guess they're not into that stuff here in Jacksonville? I'm excited that this place is not too far from where I live. I hope that on my next trip this place will be better stocked and running like a well-oiled machine! A friend of mine tipped me off to this place and I brought my wife back the next day. Definitely the biggest asian grocer in Jacksonville that I've found, Hung Thinh has a full produce section, butcher shop and prepared foods area. We stocked up on just about everything and have been cooking up a storm the past couple of days! We went on a Saturday and brought home some roast pork belly from the prepared foods section. Wow. The crackly skin with the perfectly roasted pork belly dipped in the hoisin based sauce they included was a taste and texture home run. I'm still obsessing 24 hours later. A half pound was about $4.75 so yeah.... go buy some. Anyway this place actually brought me out of Yelp obscurity to write a review. I'll definitely be back. read more

We've sourced a lot of our Asian grocery items from this place for many years, going back to before they moved across Normandy. We can find certain types of veggies here that we can't find any where else this side of the river. Also like the dude behind the meat counter; although we don't speak the same language, we communicate just fine by pointing, smiling, and thumbs up or down. There's also a small food prep area that sells bahn mi and roasted meats which you have to pay for separately. Normally I would give this place 4 stars, but dropped down to 2 because of the attitude of the guy up front at the register. When we step up to the register to give this guy money, he acts like we're a pain in his ass because he has to stop watching movies on his laptop. Sometimes he'll even make us wait until a good stopping point in his video. Yes... This has happened several times. You know who you are, dude. YOU are the reason we don't come back. We drive to La Salsa on Beach Blvd now. Better veggies, better prices, and most importantly better attitude. read more

Didn't even know this place exist! Moved to Jacksonville a year ago and been shopping exploring around trying to find a great asian groceries. This place is a good size place. Not very many vegetable/ fruit selections . Looks like I have to go to different places still. Price were good. Not too expensive like some other asian grocery place. Just make sure to look at expatriation date. That's for any asian market place. I was super happy when I found out they have pre made food.... But there weren't any when I went on weds ... Maybe it's because it's during the week? Not sure... Defiantly will go back on the weekend and see if they have any out. Staff were friendly. read more

This is literally the best Chinese food that I have eaten outside of NYC. The Char Sui is perfection. This place is mainly a grocery store but they have a hot-deli counter. Crazy cheap too. I think char Sui was $6/pound and 1/2 duck was $10. read more

After going to several different Asian markets this was the biggest. However if you live in the DC or northern VA area and are use to the stores their then this will disappoint you a bit. I was on a search for some unique seafood but found mostly frozen imported or typical crowd pleasers. They do have hot food for sell which I didn't get any because they didn't have crispy pork. However, if I had to find ingredients to make a southeast Asian meal, this would be the place to go. read more

It has some stuff we need like sauces etc but not much fresh inexpensive produce. sadly, every time we go there we always felt unwelcomed. after our purchaes of over $50-100 we never get a thank you. :( i wish the customer service was better. The store is hidden behind a pho restaurant. The entrance is before the pho restaurant. They have everything, but I had went on a weekend so most things were gone. Besides selling the roast duck, roast pig, and banh mi sandwiches, they also sell different varieties of Vietnamese food and desserts. I wasn't fond of the food much. All the wonderful reviews on the web persuaded me to shop here during our visit to Jacksonville. The store was not air-conditioned well, and the clerk was not very helpful. We bought a bag of Kokuho Rose rice and other Asian snacks. When we went home, we found the bag of rice was full of thousands of worms inside, and we had to throw away the whole bag. The Japanese style mochi was molded already. Since we live out of town, we could not return these items either. The interesting part is that all the spoiled snacks and rice are all labeled within their expiration dates, so they should not be spoiled already when we bought them. Having lived in many states in the US and shopped in many Asian stores in a variety of cities, this is by far the worst place for Asian grocery!! We never bought so many spoiled items before. Would normally be 4 or 5 stars because they used to carry my favorite sauces and the customer service previously was great (offering to special order a case of drinks for us and going out of their way to help us), Last visit was terrible - asked for help and was met with shrugs. Asked if they knew when something would be in stock and was told "no, haven't made the order yet" and then the person went back to browsing the web on their laptop. Disappointed. Went here to get roast duck. It landed up being very, very, greasy. Got some roast pork too and it was good. Bought some fresh fish and it was very fresh. Bought some long beans and daikon radish and both were very fresh. They have an excellent selection of asian goods. Like most asian markets it was family owned. read more
