Quilters Haven is as good as it gets! I have been shopping here for more than 6 years. Tom and Debbie, the owners are amazing. They take the time to really get to know their customers, eventually by name. When I first found Quilters Haven it was to repair my sewing machine. When it could no longer be fixed, Tom, knowing my situation, knew I couldn't afford a brand new machine right then set me up with a used machine just until I could afford a new one. He wasn't focused on a sale, he cared about me and my situation. They are amazing! This is a great place for mothers with little ones to take their kids! In fact Tom and Debbie actually look forward to seeing my little ones and enjoy talking with them while I shop. Their fabric selection is great!!! Lots of Riley Blake, Michael Miller and Kaufman fabrics. Their pricing is right on par with market retail pricing. As far as the woman who thinks they are too expensive......the price of cotton has sky rocketed, which forces manufactures to raise their prices. Then they pass it on to their retailers who then have to charge us more. If you want to blame someone, blame Obama! Not Tom and Debbie, a small business owner just trying to make it in today's tough economy. As far as the service from the rest of their staff, they are as quality as they come! Always willing to lend an extra hand or helpful advice! They cut accurately every single time I've been there. I don't have to go home and stretch the fabric to make sure I got every single useable inch of fabric. Oh and to the statement earlier about product being pinned down. The only things they have pinned down to the walls is their beautiful quilts! I'm sure if you want a closer look, Tom would be more than willing to get you a step stool and may even take a pin out of the corner so you can see the back of it of need be. Quilters' Haven is a great place to browse as the shop is very open and airy with a lot of room to maneuver through the aisles and fantastic lighting. I usually always find what I am looking for and more. Unfortunately my wallet is usually the one to suffer! I have taken classes at the shop, including the recent new class in English Paper Piecing, "Lucy Boston." Debbie Richards, shop owner and instructor, is an excellent teacher and is very patient with her students. The students had so much fun that we are continuing the class on our own as a "club." I purchased my Handiquilter from Quilters' Haven because of the customer service from Tom Richards. He is very knowledgeable about the machines and is always available to answer questions. In the past, he has given me a bunch of trouble-shooting ideas and his personal cell phone number in case I need to reach him after hours. His ideas worked and he saved me a service fee. Nice! One of the most admirable things about Quilters' Haven is that they support an organization that is very near and dear to my heart. They have established a Quilts of Valor sew day every second Tuesday of the month. Anyone is welcome to spend the day at the shop sewing quilt tops for servicemen and women. read more

I have been shopping here for years. I am a Batik obsessed quilter and really that is all I buy. Their batik selection is hands down the largest in Kansas City and I won't waste my time going anywhere else as I end up comparing other quilt store's selections to Quilters' Haven. I have read the other reviews about their customer service and I definitely can see the point others are making. Generally speaking, over the years the staff isn't outgoing and friendly. I have discovered, if I take the initiative and start "chatting them up" while they are cutting my mounds of fabric selections they open up and talk back with me. But until I walk to the cutting table and open my mouth, I am pretty much ignored. Being ignored isn't always a bad thing though. Who likes to be harassed by a staff member? Sometimes I don't want to hear their comments about their favorite fabrics and what ones they like better than the ones I have picked. My suggestion would be for the staff to enthusiastically great each shopper and offer their services should the shopper desire any help. Check back on the shopper once in awhile if they are taking a long time. Let the shopper know your there for them and then let them take the lead. read more

I purchased my longarm at Quilter's Haven. I also purchase fabric there because they carry a different selection than anywhere else in the metro area. I am impressed with the quality of service and care that I receive from Tom and the ladies who work in the shop. They have ALWAYS been able to offer suggestions, solutions, ideas, and even in-home help when my longarm and I have had problems or when I'm trying to find the perfect fabric for quilt. The people at Quilter's Haven are honest and trustworthy. This is extremely important to me. They aren't just in business to make money; they truly care about the quality of the products they sell and the customers who shop there. Do they breathe down your neck as you shop? No. Are they readily available to cut fabric, offer advise or opinions on color choice, and help in any way needed? Yes. I am so pleased that I purchased my longarm here. I just came back from a trip to Missouri and we toured the other quilt shops around which took us to Kansas. This was one that my friends said they never made it to but it was on the list so we decided to give it a try. WOW, please rename the store to Quilters Heaven! I took one look at the Batiks and I was in heaven. While one shopped for purple, I shopped for blue, another shopped for everything and another for sale fabric the staff cheered us on. I didn't know which way to turn there was so much to look at. And the staff was so helpful, showing us different fabric, even where the sale fabric was. We were 4 stanger's to this store, from NJ, NC, and VA and yet I know I felt like we had been coming here forever! Tom, Kathy, Linda, Harriet - we love you all. Of all the stores we went to, and there were a lot, you were the best and the most friendly! Looking forward to another quilting trip and a visit to new found friends! read more

My sister asked me to join her on a bucket list trip to visit quilt shops across Missouri and Kansas. Being a Quilter myself I was in. We were using Liberty Missouri as our home base and were debating if the long dive to Olathe Kanas to go to Quilters' Haven would be worth the trip. Trust me it was worth the trip! The store is so well organized and so well lit. Every type of fabric in almot every color. The Batik section is outstanding! The staff and owners went out of their way to help with matching colors to fabric purchased in other shops and making suggestions, all with a great sense of humor. I live in Pennsylvania in the heart of Amish country with unlimited quilt shops. I would rate Quilters' Haven above them all and I would recommend them to anyone and everyone! I love Quilters Haven in Olathe! The first time I went in, the shop owner, Debbie, took significant time to help me find 40+ colors of fabric that I needed for a quilt I'm making, and kindly advised me about which fabrics would go well together and what would be a nice background fabric for the many colorful animals in my quilt. Linda, another employee, has been so helpful and supportive with my quilting questions in person and when I call on the phone. They have a passion for sewing and quilting, and have an expansive collection of fabrics, and years of experience making magnificent quilts, as you can see hung all over the walls. I don't know why there are some negative reviews, I had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend this shop to others. read more

Tom at Quilters Haven is INCREDIBLE! **************** HE bends over backwards to help customers from carrying machines, to being knowledgeable about store products, to being the greatest handi quilter technician! I had a problem with my Avante, that another dealer screwed up, and Tom got it in first thing the day after I called him, had it fixed in mere minutes, and I can't say enough great things about him. Not every customer agrees on service, I'm sure, but I think Tom cannot be beat. I drive hours to and from Erie, Ks, and he's totally worth every minute it takes me. I recently purchased a longarm quilting machine from Quilters Haven and the entire experience was exemplary. They honored the current deal that Handi Quilter was advertising. There was excellent communication on the delivery process. Tom installed the machine and he was so friendly and patient with my questions. He was very knowledgeable about the engineering behind the machine and gave a thorough tutorial on how to load a quilt, care for the machine, and use the long arm. I look forward to the free class that they are offering for purchasing a new HQ longarm machine from Quilters Haven. So, last week I went to Quilters Haven with my drawing of a creation for a wall hanging. Debbie, the owner, worked with me for some time to get all the right colors together and when all was said and done the fabric combination was awesome. I am so impressed with how she can "see" colors. Quilters Haven is the only place I go anymore to get fabric, just for that reason. I also appreciate all the tidbits of information to make things easier or better. Tom has helped me trough a frustrating time with my sewing machine when I was ready to scream, and instead of "trying" to sell me a new one, he worked her back to a "purr" again. Thanks Tom. The store the staff and the owner are wonderful! I am a new quilter and the staff helped me with fabric selection for a baby quilt for my granddaughter that was due in a few days. Then the owner, Debbie hand wrote out instructions for making the quilt and told me to come back in when I had gotten that far along and to ask for her. She then walked me through finishing it! You'd never get that in a big box fabric store! Because of their help I was able to take the finished quilt to the hospital when baby was born. I am now taking a quilting class and Linda is an excellent teacher. I am so happy to have this store close to me! read more

I was surprised by the negative comments some left on this site. I guess anyone could have a bad day - either shop employees or customers. My own experience has been great. I like to make children's quits, and this place has a very good collection of brights and juvenile prints. It's just a happy place. The flannel collection is also good (and 10% off on Fridays). Although I don't buy many batiks, ii noticed when I entered that there is an extensive collection. I didn't ask for much help, but I thought the staff was friendly and courteous. read more

I have owned my sewing/embroidery machine for 4 years now. I have had trouble with it all 4 years. Since my warranty had expired, I decided to try another place to see if they could really fix it. Yesterday I took it to Tom at Quilters Haven. I got it back the same day. It has never run as good as it does now. Fantastic selection of high quality quilting fabrics. Staff is helpful and always willing to assist in fabric selection for any quilting project. Love how the store is arranged. Always neat and tidy and easy to find just what I need. Huge selection of books and patterns. Anytime I have questions about construction I know that they are more than willing to help me. This quilt shop is one of many visited, but only one I shop at continuously. Great selection of fabric from flannel to Batiks. Customer service is outstanding. Helpful with putting together fabric for quilts or answering questions regarding a pattern. Ladies are helpful and willing to share their knowledge. Service section is very good. They work on both my domestic and long arm. The service staff is knowledgeable and work on a wide range of different makes of machines. read more

I was concerned about visiting this shop after reading the reviews concerning the poor customer service but decided to try it out. I thought it was perfectly lovely. The selection was vast and there were plenty of samples and books and patterns. Regarding the service, I couldn't have asked for more. Tom Took his time to figure out what was wrong. A man with lots experience. The machine was fixed quickly tom refused to charge for his services. They have a great selection of fabrics and I try to buy local when I can. I purchased a longarm (handiquilter) a couple of years ago and Tom, who does service on them, has been a lifesaver! He has came out on short notice for a couple of my 'quilting emergencies'. The staff is not pushy (which I hate when browsing fabrics) and pretty knowledgeable for questions I've asked. I generally do not leave reviews but felt I needed to when I saw the negative reviews. I purchased an HQ Sweet Sixteen sit down quilter in 2017. I had problems with the tension. I called Quilter's Haven and left a message. Tom called me right back and help walk me through correcting my machine.
