We went here on a recommendation from a family member. The building is a gray brick building that is a bit tricky to notice, but there is an address and a sign that says ANTIQUES. There is parking in the back as well. Inside we found 2 stories of antique decor....awesome stuff! Most everything was hand picked w/ attention to detail. There are lots of goodies all over the place and we were there for a good 3 hours. I think we did end up seeing almost everything. Most of the stuff is primitives and lots of great ideas in every room for decorating. Lou (the owner) was VERY patient and helpful and spent a lot of time helping us find a cool framing idea for some artwork. This is an awesome place to check out if you're looking for a good gift for yourself or the antique lover in the family. They are open from 7am-7pm the first week of every month. read more

Lots of ground to cover and items to see. If you go, I'd suggest setting aside at least two hours to look around. Great place for real vintage items. They have a wide collection of black & white photographs too. The reason it's four stars instead of five is it's a little on the messy side, although that does typically come with the territory of shopping for vintage. read more

I read about this place in the March issue of St Louis Magazine. It is St Louis's version of American Pickers. They owners travel around and unearth hidden treasures and they bring them home to St Louis. They are only open the 1st thru the 7th of the month, from 7 am to 7 pm. I stumbled on this by accident after stopping at the Green Shag Market - it caught my eye because I'd browsed their Etsy shop before. What a fantastic hidden gem! The first floor has a lot of higher-end pieces, and they are so stunning and everything's in great condition. It's like a museum - you can wander around and gawk at everything for hours. I went to the second floor looking for some good deals on old hardcover books, bottles and crates and found some incredible pieces for a couple dollars apiece. So worth the hunt, and I had a lot of fun looking through everything. They have a great eye for antiques. Lou and JoEllen are so hospitable, too! Lou helped me carry my finds down to the register and then out to my car. I'll be back next month (and every month after that). P.S. It smells nice in there, too. I adore this place! I've been several times now and there's always need stuff to look at and I've always found something fun to add to my home. Everything from tiny little scrabble tiles and letter magnets to big items like furniture, they have a fun, funky collection of just about everything! The owner is always very friendly and helpful, but he isn't in your face and doesn't hover around you as you go through the store space-you're allowed to just shop and wander but he's always available if you have questions. Prices seem very reasonable, So plan on making a visit during one of the first seven days of each month. And if you sign up for their email list, you'll get a preview email of some of their new were items which is great for making your shopping list for your next trip! read more

I'm not an antique'r but this place is pretty awesome! True to form, they were open (as advertised ) on New Years day and only first 7 days of the month. Watch out! As soon as they open on that first day of the month, the real antique chasers are out in force! I have to take away a star because it's a very pricey store. This is an AWESOME place to browse if you have a love of old things. The owners travel all over the U.S. and buy most of their merchandise from estates or find the items by referral. They bring them back, clean them up and then expertly showcase them to sell. I am always impressed with the way they set up their displays...they are so artfully done. Also, Lou, his wife, and their son (the owners) know the items that people are looking for and they often times have things that most places don't carry. If you like to mix old things with new, they often times have just the right thing...from industrial artifacts that used to be in a now shuttered factory to the entire stock of an old general store in a small town that has been closed for the past 50 years! There is always something interesting to look at here. A trip to Quintessential Antiques is one of those things that puts a smile on your face...even if you don't find anything to purchase. I always feel like I've taken a step back in time when I go there. Also, the prices are fair and far more reasonable than a lot of antique stores. Don't be confused here...this is not an antique mall and there is no real digging through piles of junk to find treasures. Everything is laid out, priced and ready to take home. They are also experts at wrapping and packing your purchases so they arrive home safely. Lastly, once you start going to Quintessential, odds are, you will be back. Make sure to attend their annual Christmas party which is held at the beginning of December every year. It is FANTASTIC! They have festive snacks, cheese, wine, cookies, punch...all kinds of great eats AND they save a lot of their best wares to put out for this extravaganza. We never miss this! I know it's real name is quintessential Antiques but I have a hard time spelling that so we privately call it Brigadoon antiques because it only appears now and then--the first 7 days of the month. My favorite vintage/antique shop. I have purchased many things over the years from Lou and his family. If your new to this world, check them out. They have such a great eye. They price well, you will find something very cool and affordable. If you live in a loft and have lots of space to fill,this is your place. They find the best stuff. I have a credenza that used to be pink. Its now black with great chrome hardware. Got it here. It was a great score. They have great open houses a few times a year. I cant start my Christmas without a trip to Quintessential. read more

Nothing to write home about. The store is not very big. I wasn't greeted when I walked in nor asked if I needed help as I walked around. Not a big deal since I was in a hurry and I wanted to browse quickly but it did turn me off a bit. The worker was having a long discussion with someone else that seemed to be more friend than customer. Not really worth the trek over or the 7 day a month wait but if I'm at the Green Market I might stop in. read more

Seems to be a very nice family owned business. Huge Selection from a wide variety of times.The prices are just right for what you are buying. I would highly recommend this shop.
