I've have to say, Quivira Internal Medicine in Overland Park, KS, is fantastic. Finding a primary care doctor who actually listens can be tough, but this place is a total winner. The staff is super friendly, and the whole office runs smoothly--it's never a nightmare trying to check in. I'm especially grateful for my doctor, Dr. Mark Sankoorikal. He's also really down-to-earth and easy to talk to. Dr. Sankoorikal always takes his time, explains the medical stuff without making you feel stupid, and he's big on keeping you healthy for the long haul, not just treating the immediate problem. If you live in the OP area and need an internist you can trust, you should definitely check out Dr. Sankoorikal and the team at Quivira Internal Medicine. Highly recommend! read more

Doctor actually told me to lose weight instead of trying to figure out why I was gaining weight. Dr said I can put you on antidepressants and a weight loss pill . There is at least one person on support staff at QIM who needs a performance-based assessment of her application of the principles of person-centered health care. My medicare advantage plan website has spent a lot of money upgrading its level of interactivity with members of the plan. It is extremely clear in that AARP backed work that plan managers want individuals to take more responsibility for their own health care benefits and related behaviors. There are, of course, certain very definite limitations in how in-expert members of the public can make all of the many decisions about things such as which calcium supplement would fit his/her life best, but it is a good idea to get the general public more involved in how to be healthy, if only for preventative behaviors to develop, if not to mention the effects disease prevention upon health care costs, therefore health care professionals and their support staff should collaborate effectively on an individual person-to-person basis to at least try to make that happen. One concerning example of the of the concrete differences that person-, as opposed to system-, centered care is the fact that the AARP associated offerings that I mentioned above include a pretty much state-of-the-art website, with lots of screen space devoted to helping plan members to make decisions about how their health care works. Primary among those decisions is scheduling appointments with your in network Primary Care Physician. Constantly throughout those Medicare Advantage content resources, enabled by means of the internet, the plan documentation almost always associates "annual physical" or "wellness visit" with your "next appointment" with your PCP. This is particularly clear in the member's "Provider Check-in" function enabled on the plan-member's dashboard, which displays the high-level plan benefit categories. HOWEVER, when a patient calls to make an appointment exactly zero effort can be made by a care-providing organization, like QIM, to acquire more information from a caller, who is more likely than not an in-expert opinion on the connection between whatever their personal health experiences are and what "bucket" his/her call will be dumped into. It is clear that the volume of numbers alone will guarantee that some such callers will show up at later stages of their health problems rather than earlier, more cost effective and better for them as person, stages of the same health issues. I have learned now to ask appointment makers how they differentiate when to schedule plan members. It would be interesting to know if the simple, relatively in-expert use, of some words trigger significantly longer wait-times, even up to six months, before "care" receivers' questions can be answered by someone who knows what they are talking about. If that appointment scheduling task is made on information about someone trying to make an appointment it would be useful for everyone involved to know what the criteria for delaying what may be very important matters are, so that we can build trust by obviating the possibility that the criteria are about money and the different rates at which annual, or wellness, visits are reimbursed to "health" "care" providers, compared to plan members' next appointments, which could be more directly related to established streams of revenue. . read more

I had a procedure done at Overland Park Surgery Center on 04/25/2023 and used my credit card to pay my co-pay. I hadn't used my card in a year and never had any incident of fraud but less than two weeks later my bank notified me my card was trying to be hacked someone trying to open an account as myself they blocked it in time card now cancelled but I'm pissed they have all of your personal information and can try to impersonate you. Beware using your credit cards here. I advise using a cash card or low pay credit card. I had to hand my card to the receptionist to swipe to pay my bill why don't they have a card reader I can use to swipe my card with myself? No one does that anymore. From now on I'll swipe my own credit/debit cards or they can bill me later. I'm reporting them for fraud alert. read more

I have been so please with the care my daughter and I have received from Dr. Walijan-Munir. I have gone through a significant health crisis in the past year and Dr. Munir has been wonderful in working with the specialists I see as well as overseeing my basic healthcare. Her intelligence and compassion have helped me get through this difficult time. Even the specialists I see have commented on how good Dr. Munir is to work with. Dr. Munir also sees my daughter who has special needs and she has been very patient and comprehensive in caring for her. Dr. Munir's staff is always very friendly and efficient on the phone as well as in the office. I would strongly recommend Dr. Munir as a physician. read more

Back in 2014, I went to Quivira Internal Medicine, specifically Dr. Kalpan Gorthi, for lower back problems and numbness and tingling in my arms and hands. She did lab work, which included CRP and vitamin D levels. My CRP levels were through the roof (something like 10) and my vitamin D levels were in the single digits (if I remember, around 9). She told me to take more vitamin D, although an amount was never prescribed or specified, and she referred me for physical therapy. So, because she wasn't specific, I increased my vitamin D intake my about 1000 ius daily. She told me to also take Aleve, but the drug only made my symptoms worse. It made my hands and arms feel like they were on fire. When I expressed the side effects Aleve caused, she blew me off and acted like I was just making it up, because she had never heard of someone reacting to it like that before. In addition, the only other choice for medication that she gave me was prednisone, a medication that I expressed I could not take because it induced manic symptoms and increased my blood pressure in the past. When I told her I couldn't take it, she told me I didn't have any other choice and that the only reason why I reacted poorly to it in the past was due to how it was administered (Flonase). So, of course I went ahead and took it because she gave me no other choice. Like I warned her, it induced manic symptoms and caused me to lose sleep. I had inquired about Meloxicam, a NSAID, because it helped my spouse in the past. She refused to prescribe NSAIDs that were not over-the counter. I went to neurosurgeon and he got involved. Finally, she wrote the prescription for it. When I decided that I didn't want to see her anymore because I didn't like the way she handled my medical condition, I requested to be transferred to another physician at the facility. They refused to transfer me to another doctor within the organization. So, I had to look for a doctor elsewhere. It is also worthy to note that physical therapy never helped my symptoms. About a year later, I was still taking Meloxicam which lessened all of my symptoms, but I also began to experience vertigo symptoms. I was hospitalized for it, was diagnosed with positional benign vertigo, and went through physical therapy. It also didn't help. I began to think that I had MS due to all of my symptoms. Then, I read a vitamin D deficiency could cause all of these problems. When I went to my OBGYN for my yearly physical, she requested vitamin D lab work and my levels came back at 12. I told her about my previous levels and how Dr. Gorthi just told me to take more. She stated the only way my vitamin D level could be normalized was for her to prescribe 50,000 ius once a week for eight weeks. Then, I would need to take around 5000 ius a day. She stated Dr. Gorthi should have known this. Within two weeks, all of my symptoms went away or substantially decreased by 95%. I was able to go off of Meloxicam. I owe my life to my OBGYN and cannot thank her enough for properly doing her job. I cannot begin to say how disappointed I am with Quivira Internal Medicine. Dr. Gorthi clearly should have known to prescribe me vitamin D at a high dosage in order to get my levels back to normal. Abnormally low levels of vitamin D can cause a wide variety of symptoms, including increased inflammation levels, chronic pain, vertigo, cancer, etc. 50,000 ius of vitamin D at once per week for eight weeks is probably a $5 prescription. If she would have prescribed it and if she would have instructed me on how much to take daily, she easily could have saved my insurance provider $25k in medical bills (e.g. physical therapy, hospitalizations, doctors' visits, prescriptions, etc). Medicine practiced like this is what is causing the health care crisis in this country. read more

This office needs some process changes and better management of staff. First off, my doctor indicated I could only be seen for the issue that I made the appointment about and not anything else. WHAT?!? What happened to the days when you could discuss any health issue with your physician. Secondly, and this is the most alarming. I was instructed to get a few xrays of my arm and the technician proceeded to take x-rays. After the 3rd attempt to get a "clean" image I asked about why the lead gown was not used. Her response was she forgot because she had stayed up late. I was thinking oh I hope everything is ok, but shockingly she said she was tired because she stayed up to watch a movie. Yes, entertainment was the excuse for not doing the basic elements of a job....the lead gown is the most essential part of a radiologists position. And it gets worse from here. I also needed blood drawn. The nurse couldn't hit my vein which are very healthy and I have never, ever had a problem. She had 4 tubes, but only filled three and threw the 4th away because she couldn't get the blood to fill the 4th tube after noodling around even though the doctor had several things that was being tested. To date after 4 weeks, I have not received a phone call on those results even though I was promised I would be contacted. No return call either after message was left. And I am wondering what was being tested and didn't get submitted or omitted. I like my doctor, but the supporting staff needs better management and training. read more

Although Dr. Kamerzell seems very competent, I am VERY displeased at the responsiveness of the practice when it comes to notifying patients about test result. Office received results on Wed 6/5, I contacted office on Mon, 6/10 AND Tues, 6/11,,,, and to date (6/17) have not received results from this office. I was very anxious about these results since the screening test was positive for possible cancer. The office message about providing "true peace of mind" needs to be reviewed for accuracy! read more

I was looking for a new physician and decided to try a physician in this office due to the convenient location and affiliation with HCA healthcare. I do not recommend this practice. Firstly, Dr. Munir does not understand the difference between her office's standard operating procedures and the law. She believes the office standard operating procedures are the law and this is very concerning. She proceeded to tell me my previous physician wrote an "illegal" prescription.Does she not understand that an insurance company and pharmacies will not fill an "illegal" prescription? I believe that she thought I was lying to her. Ridiculous. Secondly, Dr. Munir uses a "scribe" meaning that there is a random person in the physical exam room with you as you discuss your personal medical history with the physician. This random person sits in the corner and types every word of your conversation into the medical record. I understand electronic medical records are cumbersome for physicians but I also wonder if it is because English isn't her first language and she is unable to dictate her notes. Thirdly, she leaves the room without discussing a treatment plan. A nurse comes in to tell you what your she decided for you. This is so strange to me the physician doesn't discuss the treatment plan directly with patient. What if I was not agreeable to the plan?Poor bedside manners to say the least. Arrogant behavior would better describe this. Will not go back here. The nurse says the checkout desk will give patient access to an electronic portal to view lab results. No such information or access was provided. Update: I have called this office 3 times for my lab results and have still not received the results they said they would send. Also, she billed $727 for a routine physical and labs with no other services performed and she was in network. For those that do not know, this is nearly double the normal billing when compared to, for example, College Park. read more

My doctor vanished like a fart in the wind. Too much turnover and poor communication.

I was having a gestational issue and was consistently losing weight. I asked Dr. Fomby if he could recommend a dietician I could speak with to offer some suggestions for what I could do. He referred me to a dietician in the HCA Midwest network in the doctor's office at Overland Park Regional Hospital, who charged $586 for a one hour consultation. My insurance didn't cover it, and no one suggested I get pre-certified. I was quite astounded by the charge, as my doctor doesn't make that much per hour, and the fact that this was a recommendation from him within their network. Needless to say I will never see either Dr. Fomby or the dietician again. read more

Dr. Lester at Quivira Internal Medicine is my primary care provider, and she is fantastic. She is thorough in her examination and analysis, and she takes the time to listen to my concerns. I had an urgent medical situation crop up last year, and I was able to get in to see a nurse practitioner right away, which I appreciated. I could not be more pleased with my experience with Dr. Lester at QIM-- she is an excellent physician! read more

After being a patient here for about 3 years, my previous doctor left for bigger and better things. So no other doctor was available. Therefore I have been bounced around to several other Nurse Practitioners. Last appointments was to see Cypress LaSalle, NP. I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2. Her and I where having a discussion on foods to eat and not to eat and she became really upset that I did not seem to know what starchy foods were. She became very rude and upset. Then several weeks later my other medication was due for refills. When I called them in the pharmacist recording stated that the prescriptions did not have anymore refills and that they would be calling the doctor. So been there done that at this office. The doctor, never calls to fill the prescriptions, so I know this, so I what for THREE whole days, THREE! Then go to Wal-Mart and SURPRISE! Cypress LaSalle, NP. has never called the pharmacist to fill the prescriptions still after three full work days. Called them in on Sunday night. This has been going on for years here at this office. So I call the office standing in Wal-Mart after they tell me the doctor's office has never called the prescriptions in. And of course I get a little upset. Self employeed for 28 years, I run my company well and professionally, so I am thinking a doctor or nurse practitioner would be at least a little professional and call in the prescription in a timely matter. Wrong! Had to come back the next day. Within a week a get a certified letter stated that I can no longer be a patient because of abusive language. So will be looking for another doctor, not a nurse practitioner somewhere else just because this person cannot do her job. Unbelievable! read more
