How many hundreds of times have I driven by the Tarzana Community & Cultural Center? It has been…read moremany years, way back to the time there was a pottery store on the property. I finally had a chance to visit for a Tarzana Music Night last week. What a fun event! Because the weather was being forecasted to be cool with the potential of rain, the event was held indoors. Things were comfortable, but we were in close quarters with the other attendees. The sound was great and the performances were a lot of fun. I was primarily there to see a good friend perform, but I also had the chance to see some other talented musicians. I think each one was a singer songwriter, and I enjoyed each performance. Each one of the people that was working at the venue, which I imagine may have been on a volunteer basis, was friendly and a lot of fun. Normally the music nights are held outdoors, and I can imagine that most of the year, it is a lot of fun being in the open air.

They have a small outdoor stage with string lights hanging beautifully all around, a few picnic tables and fold out chairs for when there's an event to watch. When the chairs aren't there I imagine thats what they use for the outdoor dance floor under the stars, too! A few people brought their dogs on leash. I saw a few people brought in their own food, chilled out and ate while they watched the live band. They do have a very small amount of drinks, chips, and cookies for sale at a stand but thats it so if you don't want junk food def bring what you do want. They do have an indoor bathroom. PARKING - Def uber/LYFT to them. There are only a few spots in the back you can get to from the side street (not from Ventura blvd) and thats it! So do yourself a favor and get a ride. Lyft must know about this place because the driver knew exactly where to meet us in the back when we booked our return. For us it was a calm but fun summer evening hang outside! I don't know what its like without a band playing but hope I get a chance to check that out too.

They also offer recreational sports programs like soccer, basketball and volleyball which is nice if your kid wants to try out a sport but you don't want to commit to a pricier league. The classes are seasonal and they have a summer camp option. The class schedule is posted on the website and you can register for the classes online, which is convenient. In addition to the rec center, there's a park and a playground. Parking is available in a dedicated lot that can get full but I've always been able to find a spot.

I stopped by Northridge Park over the weekend for a nice morning walk. I found parking easily…read morebecause I came before noon. The park was already having some kind of event near the kids playground. There was also a kid soccer game going on too. I saw people were playing basketball at the court, tennis in the tennis court and other people were just walking their dog. This park has a pool as well but I think it was closed because the pool was drained. This is a nice big and relaxing park in Northridge.

For months my friends had been asking Clyde and me to go there with them. I kept putting it off. Some times I didn't go because I had something else to do. Usually I didn't go because the thought of a vegan dinner at a community center didn't sound very appealing. I pictured a bunch of vegetables and maybe some hummus and pita bread. I was wrong. This month we decided to go, and I'm so glad we did. The dinner was supposed to start at 6:00 pm. There was Early Bird appetizers for folks who came early. We got there at about 5 pm. It was easy to find the community center and there was plenty of free parking in back. The dinner was in a big room that looked like an auditorium. There was plenty of tables and chairs. There was a stage in the front of the room where a member of the group was playing his guitar and singing. He was really good. At about 5:30 we were all invited to get appetizers which were set up on a long table. There was celery, carrots, chips, crackers, and a really good chunky salsa. It was pretty basic until they brought out a big bowl of vegan egg salad. I didn't think I'd like it, but it was delicious. If I didn't know better I would have thought it was made with real eggs. There was also a table set up with organic lemonade, juices, water, and several flavors of Silk milk. As it got closer to 6 o'clock the room started to fill up. At a few minutes past six we were invited up to a table where a catered vegan feast was set up. There was tofurky chicken in a delicious barbecue sauce, basmati rice, broccoli, two kinds of salads, and homemade sunflower seed salad dressing. The meal was catered by Chef Brook Katz. Everything was so delicious. For dessert they served vegan orange chocolate chip cake. I loved it, but Clyde wasn't crazy about the cake. I had no problem finishing his piece. After the meal the owners of Choices Organic Cafe, three vegan restaurants in Miami, spoke to the group. They talked about their reasons for opening the restaurants and their plans to expand throughout Florida. They're hoping to open restaurants in Fort Lauderdale and Boynton Beach next. The evening ended with a raffle for ten prizes. Everyone was given a free raffle ticket and you could buy more for $1.00 a ticket. We bought extra tickets. I won a canvas bag from Choices. EarthSave puts on a catered vegan dinner and program on the last Friday of each month. The dinner is free, but they would like you to RSVP to brookkatz@hotmail.com or call 954 971-4432 I think EarthSave North is part of EarthSave Miami, for people who live north of Miami. Their motto is, "Healthy People Healthy Planet". You don't have to be a vegetarian or vegan to attend their events. I had a great time and I'm looking forward to going back next month.

What better way to enjoy the different music venue's here in the city of Woodland Hills. I personalty have been attending these concerts for about 20 years and every year they get better. Sure many cites do have Concerts in or around different area's of Southern California,maybe this is 1 of the reason's we all live here. Music for all ages. Plenty of different food vendors and local merchants who sponsor the different concerts and movies in the park. Clean park and clean restrooms. A couple of important things. First is parking can be an issue,however there is parking available for $10.00 across the street and all monies go back into this event. Second there are no open fries allowed,no BBQ's, and sorry to say Alcohol is not allowed. There is an area here in the park for you to enjoy a cold glass of beer,but must drink it in the designated area.
