Had multiple communication issues between the estimator, scheduling department and the service…read morecrew. When the estimator came out I told them I wanted walls and doors all painted the same color. I received the estimate and it had a different paint listed for the doors. I asked why it was different and he explained that it was just a different finish but still the same color. It wasn't. He had the doors quoted as a completely different color so when he finally corrected the issue the original estimate went up in price even though that's what I requested in the first place. I still proceeded with the project and the day they were supposed to start (I was told 9 am) he didn't show up. I called the office and they reached out and said he was running late and would be there by 11. When he arrived he immediately apologized and said he had a family issue which is completely understandable but a phone call would have helped. He started the work and I left him to do his business but at one point I noticed he went out to his truck and didn't come back in the house for an extended period of time. I happened to look out the window and noticed he was spraying my driveway with a hose. I went outside to see what was going on and he spilled a can of paint in my driveway. I didn't complain but he immediately apologized and said he was going to request a discount for being late and the paint spill. The job was finished in two days and the quality of work was acceptable but again it was the poor communication. The office contacted me the following Monday to ask about the experience and I told them everything that happened and I was told a discount would be requested on my behalf. Again this discount was offered to me, I never requested anything but the office responded that he was within the designated arrival time and they would only apply a discount if the paint couldn't be cleaned from the driveway. This is not what he told me and if he didn't have the authority to offer discounts to customers he shouldn't have made the comment in the first place.

Can't say enough good things about this company! Buckeye Painting has done several projects for us…read morein the past three years, and we've been thoroughly satisfied with their work. They painted our deck and some outside trim, and this year painted nearly the entire interior of our house including endless trim around doors, windows, crown molding, and baseboards. Each time they produced quality work. The crews are courteous, diligent, and they prioritized our needs. The crews and management follow up on every detail. Although not the least expensive option, I keep going back to this company because of their excellent work. Totally worth every penny.

The first thing a painter said to my husband was basically asking him if we were going to help them remove and put things back, which confused us since that was part of the job description. These people cut so many corners. They didn't remove switch plates or fixtures, they didn't tarp everything, they didn't sand down patches on the wall, they didn't remove any nails they just painted over them, and they got paint spatter all over my house. When they finished they did not do a thorough cleaning, they used MY broom that I had set out and swept the floor, that is it. They did make an effort put mostly everything back where it was but it was all done very sloppily. We had to have them scratch paint off of some things in the final walk through, but there was no way I could've noticed all the little things that got paint on them. When I asked if there was going to be a more thorough cleanup than just sweeping the answer was basically "nah that's it". So I had to spend hours deep cleaning (which I thought I was paying for) and chipping paint off of every surface, and I keep finding it places a couple weeks later. I don't think they tarped my bathroom barely at all considering there was paint on my shower head, my shower curtain, my face lotion on the counter, on the tile floor and in the grout, on my tub and on some decor. When I called to let them know I was upset about the way it went they did try to rectify the situation by offering to come back, however I had already cleaned it up and fixed it because it was finished on a Friday evening so I left a voicemail and didn't hear back until Monday - because I wasn't going to leave my house like that. From speaking with them and looking at the cost I, like I said, had very high expectations that were unfortunately not met. The painters were nice people, but the sloppiness of it all was not what I expected and I felt completely misled about how "professional" of a job it was going to be. They did the majority of my 1,150 sq foot house in two days, and my guess is that part of the sloppiness comes from being rushed. I'd have rather had it be a three day thing and done properly. They get two stars because the walls themselves are painted fine, but the misleading description of what the job is paired with the actual execution and its lack of professional detail is not acceptable at the price point.

In response, I received four sporadic text messages with no follow-up responses when replying immediately with follow up requests to connect by phone. On top of poor communication, there was a total lack of regard for accountability in my experience with Coat of Many Colors. A company employee who claimed to be able to provide quotes on behalf of the company, did just that: quoted the project (just a one-day front porch floor that my wife and I had sanded and prepped), aligned on a paint color, and provided an inexact timeline within the next two weeks when the painting would occur. Upon confirming the quote in person, I also called the company to do due diligence and make sure they had the info as well, in case the way it was quoted by an employee was not their normal practice. My call went unanswered, so I shared the details via voicemail with my contact info. Unsurprisingly, I was not called back. When the painters did not show up within the 2-week period, I called again (and was again directed to voicemail). The previously mentioned text messages that I received communicated that their employee "had no idea of the schedule" as if that let them off the hook for providing a quote and timeline. And the next text I received (6 days later despite outreach attempts in between via phone and text) communicated that they would not be able to do the painting until 6 weeks later. I recognize the company may be busy and that the employee who quoted the project should not have provided a timeline, but am significantly disappointed by the communication and lack of accountability from Mike Decker and the Coat of Many Colors to better resolve their error. As a final note, this poor experience is in no way a reflection on the painters themselves, but rather on the management and overarching communication.

Jamie came out to look at the project and provide an estimate within a day after he responded to the inquiry. They began the work two days later. This was exceptional as I was not even getting a response from many other contractors or the few that did respond had a month plus lead time. Jamie and a crew of two others came out. I arranged my schedule to work from home. The day of the scheduled work I hadn't heard a confirmation on timeframe and reached out about noon. Jamie responded and said they were getting materials and would arrive shortly. I wished they would have given me a better timeframe and more direct communication at first but they came out and didn't cancel, which is more than other contractors I have tried to work with to complete the project. Once they were at the house they got right to work. They were pleasant to work with and had good manners. It ended up being a two day project. They were a lot more communicative on the second day of when they would be arriving. The work got completed but I wish there would have been more attention to detail. The work outside was good, it technically fixed the leak and they added some extra wood details but sanding the corners of the wood would have been nice. The mold was removed from inside, and I will say my wall was already at an angle, but the drywall repair is kind of raised up. I ended up taking off the trim work that was put along that wall and redid it myself. The caulking was above the trim and not smoothed out so I had to paint over it myself and now it is raised and makes my wall look bumpy. I wouldn't have minded touchup work as long as it was at least smooth. I am appreciative of their quick response to service (especially since I was dealing with mold and a water leak) but would say that detail to work quality should be taken into greater account. I feel like they rushed the work on the second day and I ended up having to finish a couple of things on my own and spending even more money.
