After a quick Yelp search we found that this liquor store was within walking distance and had great reviews - check and check! I have to say that this part of Saint Paul is not my favorite. The best way I can describe it, which won't be helpful to most people (I'm sorry!), is that it feels like downtown Kansas City ca. 2000. Meaning, it's fine, but it feels really vacant on the weekend, a bit dirty, with a feeling of "watch out, you might get mugged!" mixed in. This liquor store is nestled right into that mix and it kind of fits the vibe of this part of the city. It's small, dated, and could use some cleaning. Overall though, I'll say that the folks working here were super friendly, and that they had a decent selection for such a small place. We found some fun beers to try and were in and out quickly. If I lived in the area I'd probably look for another one that felt like it was in a little bit of a safer area, or if liquor laws permit purchasing beer and wine at the grocery store, I'd just go there instead.

I've wanted to visit this place for a while because some searches describe this location as also having "The Big Cheese Company." Apparently that is largely a thing of the past. There is a domed cheese counter that is now used for fairly empty display, with a lot of storage behind it. A neon sign overhead still says BIG CHEESE. There is a nearby end cap fridge that has numerous cheeses, but other than the potted Stilton (which I was excited to find), the rest are fairly common grocery store cheeses locally. There is also smaller fridge near the registers with a few of the same cheeses. There are also numerous crackers, nuts, and other sides. In addition to the Stilton and a tin of pecan pralines, I found a few new ciders to try. My husband acquired a number of new beers as well, and we even tried beer from a local brewery there doing a tasting. Really nice folks!

Pricing is a little high, but that seems pretty standard everywhere for this kind of stuff, so it is not surprising.
