I had a big maple tree split during the wind/rainstorm last week. The tree clipped my neighbor's house and a large section of the tree remained at risk of coming down. Robert, the owner, was there same day to assess risk. They were working jobs across the city, but Robert got me on the emergency list and came out the next day to re-assess where they could play their spider lift. The crew showed up, went over the job with me and got to work. The got down the dead section and took a lot of weight on the portion that is still healthy. A very unprofessional team from R&R came to our apartments early this week and left a mess behind after trimming trees and cleaning gutters. our patios had tree debris, rotted leave matter and mud everywhere. Enough of the tenants complained to SMI, because a cleanup team of 3 showed up this morning and made another sloppy attempt to cleanup the mess they left behind. Most of them were the same crew and clearly were not happy. While one carried around a trash can, 2 had rakes and half-assed the cleanup, kicking some debris further into the bushes, rather than clean it up, one was on his phone the whole time I was watching them. OK, so they were 2 hours late without calling (sorry, 4/5 for that). However, these folks were great. Went over and above what I expected - responsive to my requests, offered to leave the wood cut into fireplace pieces and cleaned everything up. Lead guy took one look and called up several reinforcements! We had to work with our back neighbor (who owns the trees) and she commented that she couldn't even tell they were ever there. They even were willing to put a rope 35' up in one of the trees for me to put up a wire ham radio antenna. The cost was very reasonable and these folks were professional and personable. Please don't use them. I had them come out on October 17th, and the crew was aggressive when I addressed that they didn't do what was listed in the quote. Robert came out and agreed that the work hadn't been done and scheduled a call back to actually do the work I paid them to do on November 7th. Surprise! They didn't do the job right either. Along with not doing their job completely and correctly, they also broke my gate latch, left a ton of debris, branches, and wood from trimming (even tossing it in my neighbor's yard), trampled my plants, and left a pile of unchipped branches underneath the wood chips they left for me (enough that it took 3 yard debris containers to get rid of the branches). I suggest hiring anyone other than this company as I had TWO DIFFERENT CREWS the Salem, OR area come out and do a completely unacceptable job. The ONLY good thing I can say about this company is that Robert tried to make it right, but his employees aren't capable of getting the job done even when given a second chance. Don't bother with this company --you won't get a refund offered and you won't get the work done. You're better off spending the money on the tools to do it yourself rather than paying them to do anything. We recently had a wind storm that brought down trees all over town. We had one tree fall over our free-standing garage. Luckily, it didn't actually penetrate the structure so damage to the garage was minimal. Despite this, the tree broke over the top and extended into our circular driveway. R&R arrived at our office within two hours and had all of the major wood removed within another two hours (this was a 120 foot pine tree, about 16 inches wide at the base!). This was also late in the evening with the storm still raging; they didn't get done until after 10 pm. The next day they returned to clean up remaining debris. Fantastic, expedited. service, and according to our insurance agent they only charged us about half what they normally see charged. read more

RR tree service gave me a quote for a tree already on the ground a small but bulky plumb tree fell over during the freezing rain. just to cut it up and leave the wood their, I was quoted 1400 dollars . It is already down, I can cut it up now. I asked RR tree service about a tree in my back yard a cottonwood and they quoted me for a tree in the front yard that was already down. I had a very difficult time with R&R. I called and wanted two trees removed, the stumps ground out, and the chips left behind. I got an appointment for a Friday with the stump grinding being scheduled the following Tuesday. When I come home from work on Friday my trees are gone but there are no chips. I call to verify the stump grinding, and to ask about the chips, and get told I would have new chips dumped on Monday and they would call me back and say why the original chips weren't left. I have them add a note to please put the new chips in the backyard, as I have alley access. On Monday I come home from work and there are new chips...on top of the stumps. They couldn't get their truck into the back, and instead of calling me they bothered my tenant to ask if chips could be left out front. They said yes, and the crew proceeded to drop chips on top of the stumps that were due to be ground out. Since the stumps were supposed to be ground out the next day I got to work moving chips. By dark I got several pickup beds worth of chips moved and the stumps were cleared for the next day. When I got home that day I still had stumps. So I called again, and explained the situation, and that I had not received my expected call back. I was promised I would be the second job the next morning, and that I could expect a call from the owner the next morning to sort things out. I proceeded to move the rest of the chips. The next day I'm a bit sore from moving all the chips so I went into work later in the day. I hadn't seen anyone by when I left at 10:30am, and didn't receive the expected phone call. I called during my lunch just to verify that I did have an appointment, and it turns out I had been bumped to the third spot in the day. Stumps were removed that day. One star removed because they didn't leave chips. Another because I never received phone calls back during the expected times. A third because my appointment time was bumped and I was not notified. I should leave another because the crew bothered the tenant, and didn't call the number on file to verify a change in their orders, but the trees were removed, and the stumps eventually ground so I'll let it stand. Overall would not recommend. They will not follow through, and seem to tell you whatever you want to hear in order to get you off the phone. Crews do not read work instructions. read more

My next-door neighbor is using this company to remove trees on the borderline between our two properties. Yesterday the company's truck blocked my driveway but still parked in the cul-de-sac. Since the neighbor warned me I parked down the street and that was fine. Today, however, they actually backed up their chipper into my driveway and covered it with limbs and debris. When I discovered this and demanded to know why, one worker said they had permission. Permission from whom - my neighbor? They said that they thought that permission was given on their "bill". I stated the obvious - that I, and I alone, own the property and would be the only one to give permission for use of my driveway, and I hadn't done that, nor had they asked me. Since the driveway was vacant, I'm sure they thought that I wasn't home and would be none the wiser. They did apologize, moved, and quickly (somewhat) cleaned the driveway, but may have left additional scrapes from resting their equipment on the driveway incline and/or caused additional cracks from their heavy equipment. Even after moving their equipment from my driveway, they cavalierly continued to treat the rest of my front yard as their own. They broke branches off of one of my front bushes when they stomped on it. And I had to clean up after them just like I did for several hours yesterday. I hope this is a message to the company for workers not to be presumptuous, to communicate, and to not lie about it. I was going to ask for a quote from the company to remove some of my trees but I would never use this company because of this. read more

We allowed their crew access to our yard in order to better reach a tree they were removing for our neighbor. They assured us that we would never know they had been there but in the process of removing the tree they damaged a small fruit tree in our yard. We called and asked if they could replace the tree and were assured that someone would come out to see it and then call us back. 2 weeks later we called again and were told that the entire staff had been out with the flu and, again, that someone would come out and have a look. We went over this again and again for over 2 months but they never came out or called us back. We should have never allowed them access to our property, they are not running an honest business. read more

I contracted with R&R to have a 20' maple removed and have the roots ground down to 6" below surface out to 12'. I clearly communicated that in the contract. They did a good job felling and removing the tree, but after I got home and looked at the job, the roots were still showing on the surface just 2' out from where the tree was. I called and I believe it was the owner who showed up. I showed him the problem and he saw that it was not done to contract but then he had some attitude with me and told me how much it would cost him to have the grinder come back out and finish the job. I told him that if it had been done right the first time he wouldn't have had to come back. I found the guy a bit of a bully, but I don't have time for bullies. He sent his grinder back and finished the job right. I will not be using or recommending R&R in the future. He could care less because he gets lots of business and has nice pretty white trucks to show off. Guess who's paying for them? Not me! read more

Where should I begin? First I received a quote. Then the work was scheduled, and re-scheduled twice. We were waiting for their super expensive bucket on a track machine, only one of it's kind in Salem. They were able to work one day without it (we removed one oak tree and pruned two others). The clean-up was minimal. I didn't realize that the workers had covered up debris (branches, moss, dirt) under the tarp that covered our woodpile. They needed to uncover it to drop limbs so they wouldn't tear the tarp. They covered it back up nicely, then when we went to get wood we found the mess. They did blow off the end of the garage and the driveway of debris with a leaf blower. Then the track machine showed up. Wouldn't run. Then it showed up again another day (two weeks later). Wouldn't run. That crew left cigarette butts that we found after they left. They also made big ruts in our lawn. The trees were pruned with a man climbing the tree instead of using the bucket. A limb hit a metal sculpture that was in our yard. Dented it a little. I guess they didn't think to move it. And get this, the same limb hit their own pruner! (a pole with a blade on it). They left it under the tree!!! It was broken so nothing could be pruned from the ground after that. The clean up was minimal again, in our front yard, They chipped the big limbs, left the small ones and lots of big piles of moss. No blower for small debris. One worker said a worker backed over it with a truck a few days before. This was a very expensive job; I did not choose the cheapest quote. I thought I was picking out the company that would do the best job. Never again. I will need to hire someone to do the clean-up they should have done. I do not recommend this company. read more

I got the bid and it was a great price...or so I thought. It would have been a great price if what they did was what I asked for. They never contacted me before or after the job. They didn't do half of what was suppose to be done and I had to call several times to get someone back out, when they came back...still not done. I'm very disappointed my tree was suppose to be cut all the way up and back to my property line, they cut maybe 10 branches and still half the tree is still on my property. I can't say enough about the great work I've received from R & R Tree Service. Everyone in the neighborhood raves about them and we got the recommendation from Nextdoor.com after moving into town 1 1/2 years ago. We have had them do three different jobs in that time including tree removal and trimming of all the major trees on the property. All have been done quickly, thoroughly and professionally. They just completed today's job of trimming back all the huge cedar limbs overtaking our back property line from the house behind. R & R sent out their arborist to do the free estimate and we discussed how not to harm the trees in the process. (I want to add that I got a second estimate from another tree service that is known as affordable and it was over twice as expensive as R & R.) Today's R & R team leader, Aaron, was professional and thoughtful and checked with me during the process to make sure It was what I had in mind. I had entertained a fantasy that I could do this job myself over time but when I saw the huge pile of limbs and debris by the chipper today I realized I could never have done it. We had them out this week to thin and shape 3 trees. We are extremely disappointed. They didn't bother to do the undercut below where they cut limbs. Because of this, long strips of bark and some wood were ripped out of the trunk. My husband and I teach pruning fruit trees for the Master Gardeners. Any of our beginner pruners know how to remove limbs without tearing the bark on the trunk. read more

But the first crew did not follow the instructions on the quote; half the trees were cut too much, the other half not enough. I explained that I didn't live there and wanted them to call before they stopped by to look at what needed to be trimmed and the R and R employee, Andrea said no problem the estimator will call when he is on his way over. Then I get a call from my daughter that he showed up and left. I call and talk to Andrea she says sorry but they would take care of what we needed and she would email a quote. After not receiving the quote I call and she had my Name, the street name misspelled on the quote and the wrong email address. We got all that figured out, my name still misspelled but that's OK and she tells me there two weeks out. I told her I had another quote and that I was going to go with them. She says oh wait a minute your in Keizer I can get you next Friday. I said OK schedule it. I call next Thursday to see what time they will be there for some reason they don't call the day before and tell you what time they will be there and the gal that answered the phone says oh no your scheduled for next Friday. I call next Friday morning @ 7:30 am because I don't know if they are coming Today or what time and the gal say's there down the street be there at 9-9:30. I told her to have them call me so I can meet them there. She takes my number. I get a call around 9 and tell the gentleman I will be right there. I get there and open the gate and he walks back under the tree and has the deer in the headlights look. I ask him whats wrong and he say's the quote didn't look right. I explained to him that I had told Andrea I wanted to be here when the estimator was here and she said she had forgotten and that the tree trimmers would make it right. After over two weeks of mistakes I told them I will find another reputable company do the work. I called there office to let them know what had happened and the owners wife said this has never happened before and that Andrea had only been there for two months and apologized for her and said she was going to college too and was overwhelmed. I hired R&R to remove two very old, and VERY dangerous maple trees on my property. One was very near a building with giant limbs hanging over the structure. The crew who showed up did a great job, brought the trees down safely and exactly where I wanted them. The price was more than fair for the amount of work done and I could not be more pleased.
