While taking our dog on his weekly beach expedition to the Albany Bulb we ran into Janette. I first noticed her 5/6 dog pack when one of them pooped in the parking lot and the whole group moved on without Janette or the other woman with her picking up said poo. Maybe she didn't see it, once is not a big deal. However when we got the beach another dog from her pack shat right in front of her, and was left to be stepped in by a human, or be eaten by another dog. Please pick up your dogs poop. We ran into Janette while walking our dog, Otis, in Tilden Park. She had a group of dogs off leash, who all sat obediently to the side of the trail looking up at her as we passed. Needless to say, we were beyond impressed and asked for her info. We had adopted our super shy five-year-old ten pound terrier and were nervous he wouldn't warm up to a dog walker/trainer. Janette came over to our apartment to meet with us and Otis. During the meeting we were reassured - Janette is clearly an expert and cares deeply about the dogs she works with. After the first walk, Janette told us that Otis was nervous and struggled to stay with the pack or come when called. She suggested we do training walks, where she takes a smaller group of dogs out for a slightly higher price to focus on training. After only a month, Janette told us Otis was ready to graduate to normal walks. We noticed that Otis was more comfortable around other dogs and people, better behaved, and actually started to play at home. He is clearly a much happier dog since beginning his walks with Janette and Sabrina. I could not recommend R+ more highly. Janette and her team are professional, patient, and kind. When my fiancé and I first brought our 8 week old puppy home we were excited, but overwhelmed, unsure of how to train our dog we decided to get in touch with a trainer. Before calling Janette at R+Dogs we actually contacted a different trainer first. The first trainer we met with told us we were weren't allowed to show our dog affection, and that we must assert our dominance at all times, meaning that if we weren't training our dog she had to be crated (even when she became an adult). This training method felt wrong to us, so we decided to contact R+Dogs, and boy are we glad we did! Janette taught us that with positive reinforcement we can have the fun, and loving relationship that we wanted with our new pup! As first time dog owners she showed us how to be wonderful and responsible dog owners with positive reinforcement. After a few training sessions with Janette we also decided to sign our pup up for training walks in the hopes of upgrading her to group walks! Janette's training walks helped Lucy (our puppy) gain incredible recall and confidence. Now Lucy has graduated to group walks, and she looks forward to them every day. Janette treats our pup with unbelievable kindness and care, as if she were her own. Our puppy can be a little high maintenance and delicate, but this doesn't phase Janette at all. When Lucy gets picked up for walks we know that she is in incredibly good hands! Our dog always comes home from a walk tired and well trained! We plan to use her training services anytime we need help with our dog, and will be using her walking services as long as we live in the area! Janette worked with my daughter and me and our new rescue dog (a pit-mix puppy). I consider myself very skilled at handling dogs but Bali was growing fast and becoming almost too much to control out in public. She was lunging at cars, bikes and sometimes joggers and other dogs. She was forcing her way past me to get out of the car. Bali was also showing new signs of fearfulness on her walks in general - especially at night. After working with Janette for a few (extremely helpful) private lessons, I signed Bali up for 3 days of training and boarding. Janette sent me videos of Bali working and playing in parks with other dogs and people as well as practicing entering & exiting the car calmly. Janette taught me how to get Bali to focus without special collars and without shouting at her. I was home one day when Janette's assistant, Sabrina, came by to get Bean for her walk, and Bean got some crazy happy zoomies, jumping on the couch, twirling, etc. She clearly loves her walks. And I love that Janette does training with the dogs on the walks and lets me know what I need to work on with Bean. When I first got my dog, Allie, I quickly realized I had no idea what I was doing or how to train her. I hired a few other trainers but it wasn't until I met Janette that things started to improve. Janette was so patient and helped train me as well as my dog! Her positive reinforcement training methods goes to show how much she cares for animals and she explains things easily and clearly. Janette is simply the best! She is very knowledgeable, but most importantly she cares about your dog. I adopted a big dog from a rescue that had no training.
