I don't usually review grocery stores but this one (along with most other Longos) do a really fun Easter Egg Hunt for 1 week in April around Easter. It's so much fun and it's free! My kids enjoyed going around the store to spot eggs to match on the ballot you pick up from at the Lotto area upon entry. Once you have matched all the eggs on your ballot to the correct area of the grocery store, you are rewarded with a Kinder Surprise Egg.

I was intrigued to get a fancy-flavoured coffee, which is the only way that you'll get me to drink coffee. I also liked getting something for free now and again. Perhaps I had spent too much time researching a standalone Circle K near me yesterday. Most of my local Circle K stores are a part of Esso and have a built-in Tim Hortons. To take advantage of Circle K's coffees, I needed one that didn't have a Timmy's and decided to take an extreme approach by finding a store without a gas station, either. I did quite the map search and found this one. I couldn't tell at first whether it was a part of Malvern Town Centre. I realized that it is, but is separate from the main mall. I like this setup. I don't have to go into a large mall and spend more money than I should. It didn't take long for me to get here. Frankly, I don't recall how long the drive was. It was enjoyable getting here. The parking lot is vast. Other than the van behind me cutting across all parking spots and ultimately had to stop because I ended up in front of it without driving over any parking lines, I found a spot and pulled into it. There was an older gentleman with a walker needing a lot of time to exit the store. I liked how patient all customers around him were. One held the door open. Another asked if he needed a hand with his items. It felt like a special place with good people. I eventually made it inside after thanking the woman for holding the door for everyone. She was cheerful and nice. This section of Scarborough used to get a bad rap for being unsafe. I felt none of that last night. This store is huge. I seriously feel like I have hit the jackpot finding this store. I spent a lot of time looking at items that I had never seen at any other Circle K stores. There were huge bags of Maynards candies for under $11 each. I saw hot food that felt like a mirage at first until I walked over there. Nope, there were corndogs and pizza. What?! I normally love a corndog that it is mine by default. However, a nearly footlong meatball and cheese sub had my undivided attention. It looked yummy. I grabbed it. I eventually made it to the coffee section. It was fancy. There were two coffee machines that offered everything from french vanilla to salted caramel. I went for the hazelnut mocha and added milk. I am such a novice. You need to let go of the button roughly an inch before filling the cup up to its brim. I had some of my drink overflow. Luckily, it wasn't major. You can get milk or 18% cream. So fancy for tea-drinking me. There was also a separate machine for iced coffee. I swear that I need to get out more. All of these items were new and exciting to me. I eventually made it up to the counter. There were two men helping customers. Both were nice. I let the man know that I had a coupon. He scanned it and all was well. I then paid for my sandwich. I am still a newbie to Circle K and Esso. For standalone Circle K stores like this one, they do not accept PC Optimum cards or barcodes. The convenience store must be attached to an Esso to accept PC Optimum cards. I used my debit cad to pay for my sandwich. I tapped and all was great. I thanked the man and left with my items. The hazelnut mocha was delicious. It was creamy with the milk and not overly sweet. I loved the richness of the hazelnut mocha. It did not have a strong coffee taste, which I appreciated. I got home and toasted my sandwich. The meatballs were yummy. You couldn't see the cheese when melted, but I certainly tasted it. The bread was crusty and chewy where they should be. Yum! I have found my new favourite Circle K with fancy coffee drinks and hot food. I'll be back! (385)

The store was open 24 hours a day and had everything that I wanted. It shut down. I was sad. I sought other places to get groceries. The hours were the best. I remember shopping here after the company Christmas party at around 1 am. I was the fanciest person wearing a chiffon skirt, shiny blouse, and a long coat in the store. I also pumped gas in that outfit afterwards. Ah, memories. Anyway, I don't shop at FreshCo often. There's one on my old route from the office in Etobicoke that I'd drop by once in a blue moon. A few weeks ago, just before Easter, I decided to check this FreshCo location out. I'm glad that I did. I am so used to getting a cart without requiring a coin deposit that I was shocked to see that you needed a quarter to unlock it. I don't carry change with me during this pandemic. Luckily, there was a nice man with a plastic green tool that simulated a coin. He inserted it into the coin slot of my cart and it was unlocked from the one ahead of mine. Yay! Such an angel. I thanked him and carried on. The produce is in pretty decent shape here. The celery and melons looked fresh and pristine. I got a bag of avocados that were perfect. I also got carrots, mushrooms, and onions. I was happy. The bread section is also great. Cinnabon and Sun-Maid breads were there. I liked the brioche baguettes that looked fancy. My main reason for dropping by this store was for a couple of items to make my Easter meal: stuffing and a turkey. The best prices were at FreshCo and both were in stock. I love Stove Top stuffing. It's a great supermarket shortcut. I aad finely chopped mushrooms, onions, and celery to it. I love it so much that it disappears fast. At the beginning of this pandemic, only huge turkeys were available, and I'm not talking about some of my colleagues. I'm glad that 5 to 7 kg turkeys are available these days. It's plenty for me and my parents to devour. I got a Butterball and was happy. After getting my main list of items done, it was time to check out the rest of the supermarket. The frozen foods are impressive. I have never seen so many variations of Jamaican patties, including vegan ones. I bought a box of baked beef ones and they were yummy. The other highlight was the assortment of paratha and naan available. I stood in front of this fridge section for the longest time trying to decide which flavour I wanted. I settled for the onion paratha. As an aside, they pan-fry nicely and quickly. They are flaky and so good. I came back recently and got a box of empanadas. They were excellent, too. Both times, I had no difficulties at the checkout. Both women helping me out were nice. I tapped with my debit card and my groceries were all mine. You do need to either bring your own bags or get a free box from the pile before you exit the store. I had bags during my first visit. I had a handful of items during my second visit, so I carried them to my car and put them in a reusable bag. I like this FreshCo. It's clean. Prices are cheap. The quality is decent. The only weird thing is the quarter deposit to get a cart. I need to find one of those coin contraptions that the nice man had. There was plenty of parking both times that I was there. Selection is fairly good. The organization of products within the store is still not great for browsing. Items of the same kind will be in different sections of the store. Pricing is variable. Some prices are good, while others are more expensive compared to other stores. You would need to consider the price of each item, because it's hard to generalize. The pharmacy in the middle of the store gives vaccines by appointment. This is a great service to offer in a convenient location. It's nice to be able to shop for groceries during the post-vaccine waiting period. Service is okay. Checkout is fairly efficient, and there is self-checkout (although some of the self-checkout machines have problems).

You can usually find most convenience store items when in a pinch: coffee, bread, milk, pop, canned goods, hot & frozen foods, cigarettes, lotto, things for your vehicle (...washer fluid, motor oil, anti-freeze, etc.), etc. Staff were friendly and courteous. Don't forget that you can sign up for the 7-Eleven rewards program on your purchases. Prices are pegged to your convenience so it's higher because you're in a bind and need something now! Buy a SLURPEE and it won't bother your frozen brain. Just saying!
