No frills brewery located in an industrial area. One staff person was working and it was packed! She was extremely friendly despite the large crowds. She worked very hard. They offer beers, some cocktails, and sodas. My one complaint is the chalkboard where they had the beers listed was a little hard to read. Great place, the 1 person staff was rocking it. She managed the bar, serving, greeting, etc. She even stopped and greeted a couple who walked in and said she'll be with them ASAP. Checked out this pretty small but surprisingly good brewery in Homewood. It's in a kind of boring industrial area but it's still a good place to hang for a night. Rabid is one of the breweries on the Dixie Ale Trail. Pretty just beer here for the most part, but that's all that's needed of course. There's also fun events like trivia and games. After looking for more local breweries, we came here for a few beers. It's a small place but there was enough room. This has a kind of Dungeons & Dragons theme. Basically it's a brewery for nerds. They have quite a beer selection. It's about $6 a pint. We had a few and liked all of these. Best one was the Oktoberfaust. This is a German lager, crisp and smooth. Has more than mostly just IPAs unlike many other breweries. They also have a Porter which is strong and full of barley flavor, and it packs a punch. Best thing about it is the beer, but the atmosphere also makes it worth going. If you like nerdy games, you'll especially like coming here. There's not much in the way of food, maybe chips, but you can bring in some from outside or wherever. read more

Very cool little brewery located down in the Homewood south suburbs area. It may not look big from outside, but there's actually a good amount of space, plenty of bar seating and tables. There's lots of cool artwork all over the walls. All the bartenders are cool and friendly. It's a great vibe and I can see why people would love to just hang out here. There's plenty of space in the shared parking lot. There was about 10 or so beers on tap. The 2 I tried were good. Not a huge list, but what they have is quality. I hear they are moving to a new location next year, which hopefully works out and is a bit easier to get to. Only downside is it's a bit of a drive from the city. I'm glad I checked this place out though, and will look up when they move to the new location. read more

This is hands down my favorite Chicagoland brewery. Super welcoming, every member of the staff treats you like family. Their beer is amazing, they really have a great menu that rotates, as well as cans to-go. They even recently added in mixed drinks, and they always have seltzers if beer is not your thing! Events at Rabid are outstanding, the Feast of the Goat Queen every summer is something I absolutely refuse to miss. If I could give this crew more then 5 stars I absolutely would. read more

I frickin' love this place! What's not to love? They have a nice space. They have great beers. The staff (at least the head brewer and owner) are awesome. They are super nerds and hold pick-up D&D games in the brewery. And I study the rabies virus (and nerded out about it with the brewer). I would have stayed all day if he hadn't been on a weekend road trip with places to go. They have a great selection of beers and even a few cocktails. I tried their Horus Revenge, Apollyon, Zuul, Shadowstepper, Cyclops Portal, Battle Monk, Hemogoblin, and Dwarves of Doom. Don't worry, just small tastes split between two of us. Great names though, huh? All were seriously awesome and I went away with a couple bottles for home even. You know I'll be back here if I'm anywhere within an hour's drive. I loved the beer, it was delicious. Star gnome was my favorite but all were very tasty. I got a flight, the wood board is adorable. The bartender was super friendly. The ambiance wasn't really my style, lots of skeletons and cob web decor.. not really my scene but I will def come back for more beer. read more

Delicious hazy IPA's, stouts, and craft seltzers are just the beginning of what Rabid has to offer. It's one of those strange places for nice people and nice places for strange people. Hard to find a bar/brewery like this anymore. It's not for everyone, and that's why I like it. I could sit at the bar and get lost in the larger than life mural that hangs above their brew-space for hours. It's actually one of the things that I look forward to the most when COVID is in the rearview. The beers, the brewers/owners, the eclectic decorations...everything is worth the drive. They do not currently have indoor service, as they've taken the pandemic very seriously, but they are still cranking out phenomenal beers of nearly every variety, and have them available for pickup (or delivery if you're local) Don't sleep on Rabid, or on their beers...you'll be sorry you missed out. I love a local brewery, and this one doesn't disappoint. The bartender can recommend one which fits your taste. I tried two, and both were delicious. There was a large D&D game happening at the table next to us, but there were also plenty of guests who were not playing too. A fun place. They also sell 4 packs you can take home. Love craft beer? Well, give this place a try! Their in-house brews will set your standard for what you expect of a craft beer. While you probably are hearing about micro breweries popping up more these days, that certainly does not dilute how good of a product Rabid Brewing is engineering. The aesthetic of the atmosphere alone is a fascinating conversational topic - a fine medley of combining Norse mythology with Metal. The beers are equally worthy of praise - they provide some of the best hazy IPAs you'll find south of the city, in addition to flavorful novelties that travel off the beaten path. Found out about this place from the Madhouse hockey podcast, so we went while we were in town. Awesome atmosphere, first of all! They had sumo wrestling playing on a big screen, which kept even our sober driver entertained. The beer was inventive and varied. So many places seem to have six IPAs and a wheat, but Rabid had something for everyone. Highly recommend. read more

Initially I found the vibe of the place to be a little emo but what it I thought it lacked in ambiance was made up by the beer which was really good - and the empanadas. Sometimes you need to break out of your comfort zone. If you like dragons and tattoo art you'll love the decor here. It was all a little too "rabid" for me at first but I mostly got over it. Wouldn't go here with the in-laws or my girlfriends but it's a cool place to support if you like interesting craft beers. read more

Also, most bards just do Angry Orchard, which I can't stand, and this place doesn't. This brewery actually introduced me to a new cider, Virtue, that I now love. I really, really enjoyed their beer. Sampled the blond, the APA, and an IPA with lactose. All were super smooth and flavorful. Was there early on a Saturday night; there weren't many people there.
