I was actually Rachel's very first piano student as a kid and after a 30 year hiatus I found my way back to her as an adult student of both piano and guitar. Taking lessons with her again has been such a gift. Rachel is an absolutely incredible teacher. I have taken lessons with her both in person and remotely and they are equally excellent. She has an amazing ear and can instantly hear exactly where you are getting tripped up even over video. Her ability to pinpoint issues and explain them clearly makes learning feel approachable and motivating rather than intimidating. Beyond her technical skill, Rachel is just the best human. She truly cares about her students as people and always takes time to check in and connect. She encourages you to explore whatever styles of music you are passionate about. With her I played everything from classical to show tunes to jazz and I even took a brief detour into folk guitar. Her openness and enthusiasm make lessons fun personal and creatively fulfilling. Rachel is amazing! She taught my son for 8 years (ages 6-14) We would have stayed with her much longer if she hadn't moved to the Bay Area. Rachel has a gift for working with young children; she's patient and kind, and gives lots of positive reinforcement. As my son grew, she asked more of him, helping him build his skills and confidence. Both my kids have taken lessons with Rachel since last year. My daughter was a little gun shy after a bad experience with another teacher and warmed up to Rachel and has been doing well. My son has ADHD and I wasn't sure if he was going to be able to focus on a lesson. He was also anxious about starting piano lessons but Rachel has made it so fun for both of them. She is patient and attentive and does a great job working with their personalities. My son especially LOVES his piano lessons. They both take lessons twice a week. My daughter and I both took lessons with Rachel for seven years, starting from scratch. What I appreciate about Rachel is that she is so flexible with her students. You can choose to focus on any musical style and she will tailor your lessons to your preferences. I preferred classical music while my daughter gravitated toward jazz. Rachel taught my daughter piano for six years, my adult son piano for a year before he moved away and she taught me guitar for two years before she moved to the Bay Area. So her knowledge, patience, encouragement and positive attitude allows her to help students young and old at different levels and with several different instruments.
