I really like Rims & Goggles and have been a customer for years. I purchased a pair of glasses at their Berkeley location several years ago and still wear them today. The team there was incredibly helpful and took the time to make sure I found frames that I felt great wearing. Unfortunately, my experience at the Mill Valley location has been different. I've visited twice, months apart, and left quickly both times. On each visit, I felt somewhat rushed and got the impression that I was being overly particular about my frame choices. I had been a loyal customer of Rims & Gogles in Strawberry Village for many years and had purchased numerous pairs of glasses there. That's why this experience was so disappointing. After receiving a new prescription, I had three pairs of glasses made. Over the next four months I began having episodes of double vision and difficulty driving, especially at night. I became genuinely worried that something was seriously wrong with my eyesight. The trouble was I have several pairs of glasses that are the exact same frame and some had the new prescription and some had the old prescription. When I finally saw my optometrist, she examined my glasses and told me they were not made to the prescription my eye doctor had written. I returned to Rims & Gogles, and after checking their records, my salesperson admitted that an assistant had incorrectly entered my prescription. As a result, all three pairs of glasses had been made incorrectly. Everyone can make a mistake. What mattered to me was how the company handled it. I expected a sincere apology, all three pairs of glasses to be remade promptly, and an explanation of what safeguards would be put in place to prevent this from happening again. Instead, I was offered a 25% "friends and family" discount. I had to ask for an apology, and throughout our conversation I felt interrupted and dismissed rather than treated like a valued customer whose safety had been put at risk. Wearing the wrong prescription for months caused unnecessary worry, impaired my vision, and may have made my driving unsafe. That is not a minor error. My advice to anyone who gets new glasses is this: if your vision doesn't seem right, don't assume you're simply adjusting. Have your eye doctor verify your prescription, and then make sure your glasses were actually made to that prescription. Unfortunately, because of both the mistake and the way it was handled, I will not be returning to Rims and Goggles as I cannot trust their process. read more

I bent my Tom Ford sunglasses during a fall on Mt Tam and took them to Nordstrom where they were purchased to see if they could fix them. No dice. They suggested I try the Sunglass Hut. Strike two. I asked Chat GPT and she suggested Rims & Goggles. I made an apt online, walked in, and was greeted by a warm woman who said "Are you ok with taking the risk that the metal might break?" I said yes and within 5 minutes she brought my glasses back good as new. I asked her how much and she said no charge-- Please think of us when you need another pair of glasses. The Hubby needed to get some new glasses for computer length, reading and well while we were at it~ it was also some sunglasses. I guess you could say, "One would come here because they are looking for something Cool, Special and Unique." We were gonna make an appointment and we ended up just popping in~last time I did, I found a unique pair of Chanel sunglasses that were a floor model so I got a nice discountl. Never seen another person with them. Very hard to say no to a rare pare of Sunnies and a discount. The other thing is they are happy to adjust your current glasses which most places won't do that~but just that detail leaves a good feeling for the long term of doing business. Anyways, we fell into a rabbit hole of a guy who makes this limited number of frames that were SO cool and made where you'd want, Japan & Germany~ long story short 2 of those and a spare and we did pay bank but~ they are SO Unique I really think he will enjoy them forever and they add to his personal style. My problem was I had a One month 3,000 mile rv trip planned and I wanted new glasses to drive on this trip. My wife called everywhere to see what time limes were for new glasses with progressive bi vocals. Every response was the corporate answer, 10 days to 3 weeks. She called and got a very nice lady named K'Yala Machele listened to our problem and said this was a difficult problem because of normal time lines and a upcoming labor day holiday. Her suggestion was to come in for a consultation as soon as we received our new prescription and lets see what she is dealing with. K'Yala was waiting and reviewed my prescription whick fortunately wasn't too complicated. she felt there was a chance if we paid overnight fees of $50. No problem.. She the. looked at my current frames and said let me suggest some frames. They ranged fom conservative to a little racy for a 79 balding grey hair. One she pulled out both my wife and K'Yala said WOW. Ok when two beautiful women say WOW. Done deal. No firm promises were made? but after several calls to her supplier K'Yala thought she could get the delivery accomished. We were hopeful ,but were coming up with alternate plans to shop to rv parks we had reservations at. To our surprise we got several calls from K'Yala that things looked promising. I worked with Sean who helped me with my previous pair and both times I told him what I was looking for and both times he picked out perfect frames. Exactly right for my face and exactly what I wanted. Yes, the frames weren't cheap, but when I compare the ones I purchased at Rims and Goggles to the ones I got from an online vendor, there is no comparison, especially the way they fit on the face. Going to the eye doctor for my annual visit is not the most fun thing I do each year, yet I know I should. God knows I might be developing cataracts or whatever and early detection is always better. I have great eye insurance, but I only get about $100 credit for frames, and for $100, you can't get anything creative. In that price range, they all look the same. I have a break in Strawberry Village every day for about 20 minutes and I've always admired Rims & Goggles' trendy displays and large variety of frames. So ... I decided to venture in to see if I could find anything I liked. Well, I did and I did. Guido greeted me as I walked in. I told him I was looking for a unique frame and so after looking at my face and taking it all in, he disappeared for about three minutes and came back bearing a dozen different frames. I tried each of the different pairs on and none of them really rang either of our bells. He scooped them up, and came back a minute later with more. My frame was not in this group either. Finally, on the third try (isn't there something about the third time being a charm?) we found the perfect frame. As soon as I put them on, we both smiled in agreement. Voila! I made the purchase and when I took the frames to my optometrist, for my annual eye visit, I showed him the frames. I expected some enthusiasm, but he sighed. I asked what was the matter and he told me that, sad to say, he can't stock "up-scale" frames because the vast majority of clients in Santa Rosa won't shell out the money necessary to buy the quality of my frames. I came in with my young son to change his prescription in September last year. We brought in 2 pairs of glasses to have the lenses changed and was charged a hefty amount for the work at Rims & Goggles. Fast forward to 2018, I took my son to his optometrist for a routine check, where she also measured my son's glasses and found that Rims & Goggles had incorrectly fitted his prescription. One pair was done correctly, but the other pair was over powered. Of course, my son had totally adjusted to the incorrect pair and there is nothing that can be done. I am very upset at how poorly R&G are at doing their work. Clearly they didn't go through the prescription properly nor did they bother rechecking the lenses to match the prescription. Beautiful frames. But they really messed up my husband's glasses last year. When his prescription changed in one eye, he was told that he could replace just one lens o f his bifocal eyeglasses (without telling us of the potential problems doing so). When he got them back the level of the bifocal was different for each eye, and despite their multiple attempts at adjustment, they never fit exactly right given that discrepancy. They SHOULD HAVE offered to cut two new lenses for him at no charge. They OFFERED one new lens at a charge. We were quite disappointed. I'm not sure what it costs them to cut a bifocal lens in their shop.....but I doubt if they would have lost money giving us exemplary service. read more

Very professional and great teamwork. They really helped me out in a bind. My glasses frame broke, the lenses were still usable, but my eye doctor wanted to send it out to the lab. A two week wait doesn't work when your spare glasses are very old. They found a frame I liked that would fit my lenses and their skilled technician put them into the new frame in minutes while I looked around and the other teammates were helpful in answering questions. "Lisa" helped me in December & not only did she find me The Glasses, but she listened to me to learn what it was I was hoping to achieve. She was right & I now own the hippest pair of Sama frames any girl could ever want or wish for. If Lisa had shown me the neat little box those frames nest in when not being worn, I would have bought them just based on the case alone. Just came home from my first visit here to have a nut put on my wife's sunglasses that she had lost. Greeted when I entered, pulled out the glasses from a case, and explained what I needed. I was informed they did not carry this brand but would look to see what they had to make it work. After a few minutes, the sunglasses were repaired and all was good. Walked in for the first time hoping to get a couple of frames repaired - one had been badly mauled by an inept technician at another optician. 15 minutes and there back in shape. The other frame ideally needed an earpiece replaced, which they could only repair as they don't carry Gucci frames. They recommended I first try to order through my original supplier but gave me an estimate for a solder fix. Very friendly and helpful and to top it off would not accept any payment for the adjustment on the first frame! As it turns out, I'll need a new frame for pair two - and I'll be buying it here! read more

I walked into Rims & Goggles just hoping to get a pair of glasses that would get me through my final semester of college (ones that wouldn't fall off my face, which seems to be the consistent problem with all my past frames.) I was helped immediately and treated with a relaxed friendly vibe as two or three of the salesmen brought out frames they thought would suit me. I ended up falling in love with a pair of Anne & Valentin frames in their metal style. I ordered them to arrive where I am at school, and they arrived promptly (important because I need to see!) I have since been treated as if I am a movie star by acquaintances, friends and local baristas... all asking where I had found such amazing glasses! Most importantly they fit me like a glove and I haven't needed to even adjust them once while walking around all day! No eyeglass repair kits or supplies. Seems like a no brainer

Following an eye examination, December 11, 2020, I went online to show someone a picture of a pair of Jaques Marie Mage glasses that I have been in search of for about three years. As I began my search I saw a site that indicated the frames were available. As soon as I returned home, I went searched the site again on my laptop to assure the information regarding the eyeglasses that I viewed on my phone was correct; again, the Rims and Goggles website indicated that the frame was available. I called the Rims and Goggles' Mill Valley location and was told by Ms. Kalaya that she need to check with her manager and call me back. I waited for a half hour and when I did not receive a call back, I ordered the frame online, as the frames were still available. At this time I immediately ordered the frame, out of disbelief that I had found and ordered the frame, I went back online and the website changed to say, "Sold out." December 11, 2020 at 6:35pm I received an e-mail from Ms. Penna Omega at Rims and Goggle, requesting a snapshot of my driver's license to verify my order. I called Ms. Omega to further inquire regarding the request. She informed me that the name on my order and the name on my credit card was difference and she needed verification. Skeptical of the request I e-mailed Ms. Omega a copy of my driver's license with my driver's license number redacted for my security. Tuesday, December 15, 2020 I received an e-mail confirmation for the frames I ordered. At this point, I assumed that the payment was complete and that my purchases was in route, as I waited for tracking information. Wednesday, December 23, 2020, I placed a call to Rims and Goggles because I had not receive my order, nor tracking information. Again, I spoke with Ms. Kalaya regarding my order. Kalaya specifically told me that there had been detailed discussions regarding my order and that because of a previous incident regarding fraud, they needed for me to take a picture of myself with my identification to further prove that I was the person purchasing the eyeglasses. She also said that she thought that someone had called me regarding the new request. I was obviously very confused and upset by this news, if that was the case, why hadn't anyone contacted me between December 11, when my credit card was charged and me calling to confirm shipment of my item December 23. She could not provide an answer. Kalaya, then suggested that she could leave a message for the manager Gina to call me back in an hour. I was less than pleased with that idea, as I had not received a call back the first time I spoke with Kalaya. I finally agreed to the call back. Gina and I spoke at length regarding the issue and she also expressed the requirement for the photo of my with my driver's license. I agreed to provide the required photo but also asked for the new policy in writing prior to sending the photo. Gina agreed to e-mail the policy in writing, but then thought of an even better way to resolve the issue; she suggested that we FaceTime, therefore she would see me with my license. Gina and I spoke at length, she verified my identity and apologized for the lack of communication on their part. She appeared to complete the documentation for shipment and promised to e-mail me tracking information. I checked my e-mail the following morning, December 24, only to find out that later that night Gina send me an e-mail indicating that she could not find the box where the online orders are placed and that the frames must have been sold, as the website indicated that the item was no longer available. I find this to be extremely strange because, as stated above, I specifically review the website following my order of the product, and was happy to see that it had indicated "sold out." This is a horribly poor way of doing business and I would never recommend that anyone do business with this company. read more

In November 2011, a monkey in Bali stole my glasses, chewed up the plastic temple pieces, and took off one of the silicone nose pieces before the local Monkey Chaser got them back. The monkey got food from the chaser, the chaser got a reward from me, and I got a scratched lens and the aforementioned other damage. Fortunately, I am a SubGenius and had an old spare pair with me. In December, after my return, I was looking for an optician to repair them and was cruising by Strawberry and saw the Rims and Goggles sign. I went in, and after a 25 minute wait, told the story, and asked if they could repair them. The cheerful young woman said "Sure" and took them into the back room. Now, I have had other opticians replace nose pieces a few times, had frames straightened and fitted, screws replaced, and other forgotten services over the last 20-30 years. I have NEVER been charged by any of those fine people. One is on San Anselmo Ave, I recall. Anyway, the woman made NO MENTION of any charge for the repairs, but when she came back with the glasses, she casually made out a bill for TWENTY DOLLARS! I was shocked but still in a pretty good mood from my vacation and anted up. I haven't forgotten, though, and I stewed about it for four months or so before going in there about April 22, 2012 to register my complaint. I waited 10 minutes to speak with the manager. I told her the story and expressed my displeasure at 1) not having been quoted a price, as would be normal and customary in any other repair facility of any kind, and 2) at the cost for such cheap parts to be replaced in just a couple of minutes. I mean, could there honestly even be $1 in Chinese parts at their cost? Her response included no acceptance of responsibility for such shoddy business practices and no mollification, but only disingenuously asked , "Why didn't we put your old parts back on?" Well, THAT pissed me off. . It was the wrong question. It put the onus back on me. The right question, which should be to the shop girl, is, "Why didn't you quote this man a repair price?" And the right thing to say to me would be to apologize and to offer at least a partial refund. I told her that yes, I could have raised a stink then, but didn't, and wanted her now to know now how I felt. After her non-responsiveness vis a vis the lack of ethics in not quoting a price, I told her I would not ever be returning and that others would learn of this. She expressed surprise with big eyes and an "Oh wow" or some such, as though I were out of line. Well, here you go, honey. The world now knows. Sure, Marin is full of overpriced everything, but this was to me just blatant money-grubbing and inconsiderate customer service. read more

Oh, what a pleasant, fun shopping experience it was. Compare this to the rotten experience my wife and I had at the obnoxious, snotty Michael Quinn in downtown Mill Valley. The sales clerk, Stacy (Stacey?) was extremely helpful, obviously having fun at the job. She had us try dozens of different frames, and even though I wasn't planning on getting a pair for myself, we were having so much fun that we ended up spending a rather obscene sum for two pairs of glasses. This business has a wider selection of frames than Michael Quinn, and the total experience was so much more pleasant. Rather than being told to come back when we were serious so that I wouldn't waste their time, Stacy was engaging, knowledgeable and very attentive. I'm not sure if I'd ever plan to spend nearly a thousand dollars for a pair of prescription glasses, but if you want a pair of fun glasses, I cannot imagine a better place. read more

I work near this store and have always admired its beautiful and quirky displays. I needed to use up a medical allowance by the end of the year, so I popped in the last week of December to purchase some new glasses. I was greeted quickly by Geri. She's was warm and helpful. Listened to my needs and gave me her opinion and expertise to help me find the perfect pair! All said and done, she worked with me for over an hour. The store provides quite an extensive selection and price point to choose from. Contemporary, modern and chic styles abound. When I picked up my glasses a week later, I experienced more excellent customer service. I didn't catch her name, but young lady adjusted my glasses so they fit perfectly on my ears. She also provided complimentary cleaner and wipe kit. By far, the best glasses shopping experience I've ever had. They take pride in providing an excellent, lasting product. read more

I really wish I had a better experience here because I was so excited to finally be shopping for glasses but I was approached with a pompous snob who hated life, his job, and breathing. I wasn't bothering any of the sales people because I wasn't greeted so I just assumed they were too busy to help me and proceeded to look alone. Not knowing what I wanted I asked a sales person if I could try on some glasses and had some questions. I ask if these glasses come in a certain color which I had tried on at a different store and he sighs, looks at the case and continues sighing and says tells me some excuse so he doesn't have to go get the look book. Finally, he gets the book because I say I'd like to have it written down and writes my name on a card and files it away. He explains to me that its "store policy" that he cannot share the glasses names/colors with me and sounds pathetic, irritated, mad, dumb, and ugly. He doesn't even offer to show me other colors or something similar. I write it down anyway because that is the dumbest policy in the world and I walk away as he sighs for the 100th time and he doesn't even TRY to sell anything or give any service. At this point my boyfriend had to leave the store to refrain from being rude. I walk to the front counter, complain about him and the girl is surprised that he is a jerk. I will never, ever go into this horrible place again. His name is GUIDO (according to urban dictionary, guido is a "sad pathetic excuse for a male" ) and I hope that he reads this and realizes that he need an attitude adjustment, an intervention on how to be a happier person, and someone to punch him in the face. And I really hope his manager reads this and knows that I went to 20/20 Optical in San Rafael and spent $600 dollars within the first 15 minutes of being in there and I will continue to tell everyone my bad experience at Rims and Goggles. read more

I have bought some of my all-time favorite glasses at Rims and Goggles in Strawberry over the many years that I have shopped at this store. Recently I found a very unique pair of mirrored sun glasses by Tom Ford at a different store. The mirrored lenses were a gorgeous copper-pink color. I was told by several other eyeglass stores that it was impossible to recreate this lens with a prescription in it. So I took them to Rims and Goggles in Strawberry. Both Kayla and Stacy were extremely accommodating and said that they would do everything they could to copy this beautiful copper mirrored color. Stacy spent a great deal of time researching options and lens color combinations and went above and beyond the call of duty to get the color just right! I know this was not an easy task and took a lot of work to fine tune this unusual shade, but they did! The lenses are absolutely perfect and I couldn't be happier! Wifey was going full-blown bat-sh*t crazy running around Marin and SF looking for THE PAIR of glasses, and let me tell ya', it was not fun anymore. Enter Rims & Goggles...and heck, the prices were steep, but not the steep-est - especially given the mindbendingly great service we had. And we're difficult, pain-in-the-bootay customers, and could even be considered EON (Every Optician's Nightmare): tough prescription, can't decide on a whole slew of pricey frames, various problems every step of the way, that sorta thing. Through unyielding patience and flexibility (even when they thought we might buy a frame elsewhere), these folks easily worked out all the rough edges without battering us to the ground and instead made us happy campers without any smoke & mirrors. After using R+G for repairs on my various frames, I finally went in to buy a new pair of glasses. Kathleen could not have been more helpful and gracious. We decided on the "perfect frames" and all the "trimmings". However, when I arrived to pick up my glasses, I was non-greeted by a gentleman that was curt and appeared to be not having a good day. These people ROCK! I've gone in with a broken pair of frames and 10 minutes for a miracle and they did it. Fit my lenses into a cool new pair of frames and i was off. Then 2 years later i walk in with a similar situation and i want new lenses as well... so while i waited for my cool new glasses to begin their process of me getting my eyes examined, they fit my lenses into a loaner pair to wear while the others were getting made. I went Rims & Goggles in Mill Valley after a friend accidentally sat on my prescription sunglasses. I wanted to see if they could fix them, ready to pay for the repair (they were in bad shape!). To my surprise, NO CHARGE! They were so helpful and friendly I vowed to come back when I got my eyes checked, in a month. I came back like I said because this is the first optical store that I have come across where I felt they had integrity. Not only did I feel respected, I felt they took extra time to answer questions, care for glasses that I didn't even buy there and the atmosphere was just cool. Their selection is also so big, I didn't know where to begin... But one of the opticians When we found my new frame, Guido started taking some extra measurements I had never had before... I asked what he was doing. He said they are all certified Zeiss opticians and have the ability to basically "optimize" my prescription the Dr. prescribed with my frame and my face. Never heard of - he said it would give 50% more clarity than my other lenses (which I always had that blind spot I didn't like). I picked up my new glasses... I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!! It's like my vision is in HD! Fantastic selection of frames, Excellent Service and beyond Excellent Outcome with my new "Optimized" lenses! This is the place for me from now on! Just got new nose pads for my favorite sunglasses today. I didn't want to tinker with trying to fix them myself and risk further damage. So they ended up sitting in a drawer for some time. Rims & Goggles looked like a high-end eyewear retailer at a glance, but it's also a full-service optometry. It took the optician less than 5 minutes to put on new nose pads, and the glasses came back fixed and polished, good as new- all for $10. I'm so glad I found them. read more
