This review is 100% about the food. Our server Casey would receive 5 stars for her service. She was lovely. Full disclosure, we are not from the area. We live in MD and decided to stop at some place we don't have locally before driving home from our day trip. We ordered the stuffed shrimp appetizer, the topless Texan and the truck stop deluxe. We also ordered a daily special of burnt end mac n cheese to go because we couldn't decide. Our first impression with the appetizer was that it was a very good idea but it was super bland. The shrimp had no seasoning, neither did the cream cheese and there were only slivers of jalapenos in the cream cheese. Definitely not a popper. My husband and I decided to share the two main dishes because we wanted the same things. The topless Texan is considered a burger and does not come with fries/chips/sides. The burger patty was seasoned well but wasn't even the size of the slice of bread it was on. It had chili and nacho cheese, both which were just meh. Lacking in seasoning and flavor. It needed sour cream and green onions. The truckstop dish was meatloaf over a bed of fries and gravy. I don't know what to say about this dish. It was the weirdest meatloaf ever. It's more like pressed/canned meat. Zero flavor. Fries and gravy should be crisp, savory, and salty. What is going on? The American flag in the middle of the plate was not encouraging. If you are going to imply truckers/diner meatloaf, you have to deliver. We ordered the daily burnt end mac n cheese pasta to go. As I said, we live far away but wanted to try everything of interest. Today, we ate the mac and cheese. It was tasty. The pasta wasn't too al dente, and the cheese sauce was creamy and smokey. Sadly, again, the shrimp was not seasoned. I would have preferred chicken to the shrimp in this case. The sauce was smokey and creamy but not abundant. Do I sound nit-picky? Probably, but for the prices, I expect my food to be well seasoned. "Rachel" seems to be afraid of all seasonings, including salt. I was grateful for the $1 Miller Lite drafts but 100% disappointed with our food. We were very happy with our service. I had lunch at Racheal's on Thursday and it was good. Some friends and I tried it Friday and it was awful. I ordered a prickly pear margarita, which I typically love. It came in a mule glass. The waitress was rude. The appetizer didn't come out. When our food came the waitress asked if we needed anything. When we informed her about the app. She just brought it out and didn't even apologize. Steak was like warm. The only cook burgers well done. (Frozen patty) We definitely won't be back. read more

Today I went to Rachel's in Kittanning for their half price burger special. For 7 dollars I got a burger and chips, the Eggceptional burger was my choice. It was delicious and served the way I wanted it, medium well and no cheese. Our waiter Caitlin was very nice and attentive, and got our drinks and food to us quickly, so the service was great! The setting was great too. This was an ex Ponderosa buffet, and it was remodeled to the point where I couldn't tell this was a buffet at one point. I liked the old school decor and pictures on the wall, as I am a fan of all things vintage. I don't know why there are so many one star reviews as I think this is just as good, if not better than the Butler and Mercer locations. read more

The place is new, so it was a bit longer to get in than you would normally like. However, with it being a new place, that should be expected. You could tell it was "new", as things seemed just a little chaotic, and service was just a bit slower than I would have liked. One of my biggest pet peeves....we had to ask for refills on our drinks after multiple passes at looking at empty glasses (which were a little higher priced than expected, $3.50 for an ice tea?). Interior was nicely decorated. We started our meal with the homemade chips and a pretty good dip that came with it. We tried the Chicken Tiffany and the Honey Dipt Chicken. Personallly, while it was "ok", I probably would not get the Honey Dipt Chicken again. It needed some type of dipping sauce, or maybe a side of honey to actually "dip" in, rather than just a little drizzle on top. The (tempura?) breading was just a little dry and plain, and needs something to liven it up a bit. A positive that I will note is that they allow you to get soup as one of your sides, and that actually includes their Au Gratin French Onion Soup. I am used to most restaurants forcing you to get a crock and upgrade for a higher price. They will actually make you a cup-sized portion at no additional charge. Our children tried their Mac n' Cheese, a Burger, and a kid-sized Grilled Chicken Salad. No complaints from them. For dessert, a piece of their Caramel Pecan Pie. $7 for a piece of pecan pie, but it really was excellent. Overall, I would recommend trying them, and I look forward to trying them again as they settle in. read more

One word for this place... disappointing. We were very new to the area and decided to try this place. There was a very long wait (about 40 minutes), but I understand that they were operating at a much lower capacity due to covid. I wouldn't have minded this if the experience had been good. The place is nicely decorated and was clean. Our server was attentive enough. However, the food was just bad all around. We ordered the pretzel as an appetizer. It was edible, but just barely because it was so burned. For entrees I ordered the Truckstop Deluxe. That was the single worst meatloaf dish I've ever had - and that includes cheap buffet or cafeteria meatloaf. It tasted like cat food. Awful. I only took a couple of bites of it and those were forced. Even the fries on the plate were not very good. My husband ordered a steak, baked potato and broccoli. The steak was okay but was a little overcooked. The potato was rather small and the broccoli tasted old. My daughter had the mac and cheese and apple sauce. The mac and cheese didn't taste homemade - more like boxed. Maybe we went on a bad night or chose the wrong dishes, I don't know, but based on the food, we would not go back. read more

Food was amazing! But there was quite a few downfalls also! We have been here three times and is give it take. Or first experience was terrible but our second was great. This last time was just as bad, out waitress was no we're to be found and when we had ordered apple sauce for our kids she didn't bring us spoons, when they brought us our steaks we didn't get steak knives, same goes for refills! Me and my friend had the steak and the guys had burgers. The food is great but the service is terrible. U would think that after a month they would be better at there service. I stopped here right after it opened and it was pretty good, so I thought I would try again. This time it was even better! I had the Rocky Mountains chicken in it was a huge serving. 2 full chicken breast topped with ham and cheese! I had a side of baked potato and a salad with her famous balsamic vinegarette blue cheese dressing. They should bottle that dressing and sell it! I had the usual desert of ho ho cake! Awesome! Our waitress was quick, friendly, and did a good job. This new location should do very well for this local chain; not much else close by to compare it to. They are a curt above the national chains for sure, and they have done a good job at maintaining a high standard. I'll be back again. read more

Very unprofessional manager- We came here in the fall with a big group of ladies for girls' night. One of the girls got the loaded nachos appetizer for $12.99 as her meal and it was huge! Then we all came back last night and four of the girls got the nachos since it looked so good last time. The nachos game out and they were each on a plate half the size as they were in the fall- but still costing $12.99. The plate is small- about the size of a dinner plate- hardly an appetizer size of nachos and not worth the price. When my friend complained to the manager he gave her another plate of nachos to go, but did nothing for the other three ladies who ordered them. Some of us left early and on our way out my other friend thanked the manager for the nachos. He replied, "I really just didn't want to hear her bitching about it anymore!" I know what you're thinking... this girl cares way too much about nachos! It's not about the nachos... It's about the fact that the manager would speak to a customer like that about another customer. Probably the worst service I've ever had in a restaurant, definitely the poorest I can recall. We placed our drink orders. The waitress had trouble understanding my draft beer request, saying she "didn't drink" so she didn't know what they offered. She returned and told me the draft beer I ordered (from the draft list on our table) was not available. Fine. I ordered a mixed drink. My gf had ordered wine, but we did not get that yet. No water. Ever. The waitress then returned, still without drinks, but with our entree's. Our meal came with salads, but she did not bring them and seemed confused we wanted them. She eventually brought our salads and asked if we wanted boxes! We had barely started eating, waiting for our salads and our drinks. And it was still an hour before closing. I spoke to a manager and she eventually brought our drinks. My drink was just three ingredients; Cabernet, vodka, and lemonade. They advertise it as a feature drink. The lemonade was left out. Oh, and still no water. Then the waitress stopped and told us that our meal came with bread. Maybe. She wasn't certain. Do we want it? No, at this point we just wanted to gtf out. We were comped our drinks. The place wasn't even busy though, and there was no excuse for the lousy service by our waitress and the bartender. Oh, and the entree was not very good. read more

I really went here with zero expectations but for what this place is; it was fine. The food came hot, decent portions, and was pretty tasty. They have a Happy Hour which I completely recommend since they have 1/2 price apps., and decent drink specials. Since this is a chain I wasn't setting the bar high and honestly, I think they are a bit pricey for what is served but...... I the food was decent. Brand new restaurant in the west kittaning area. Much more upscale than the previous ponderosa in that building. Only open for 1 week at this point. The place was packed at 5 pm, but only had to wait about 5 minutes for a booth. Service was very good. Decor was impressive classic roadhouse. Two out of three items in the Route 8 Trio appetizer were excellent...seafood stuffed mushrooms and the jalapeño stuffed shrimp. Ribs were too mushy and no smoke flavor. Portion size was very good and more than enough. A great night out with plenty of customers lined up waiting to get in and try the new place when we left. Many out of state plates visible in the parking lot. Very good job for only being open 1 week. But the ribs need work. read more

We arrived at 10 after 6 and we had to stand waiting outside until we were seated at 735. If you are overwhelmed by customers, don't tell them that its a half hour wait and make them wait an hour and a half to be seated. We asked after an hour and they lied and said five to ten minutes. Once we were seated, we all noticed the smell of fresh paint and stain. The corner table that we were at was not anchored properly and wobbled dramatically when any of us touched it. My friend had to ask for the drink menu. She ordered a drink that was both listed and on the card in the center of the table. She was told that they did not have the proper glass to make it and if she wanted another type of mixed drink then they could muddle through and try to make it. We waited a half hour for our food. Both my friends husband and mine ordered coleslaw and my husbands was warm. My meal came with two sides and I had to remind the waitress of that fact before she moved on to the next person. She was less than polite about it. For some reason the waitress told me twice that my food was almost ready. I was the last to receive my food and it tasted like it had been sitting for awhile. My friends Honey Dipt Chicken was dry and her vegetables were overcooked. She did not finish her meal. Overall, my first impression of this place is not good. I've ordered the same meal at the Rachel's in Butler, PA and it was much better. No matter what time of day I go, I've never had to wait for a table. Solid place for quality food in the Kittanning area. Prices are reasonable for what you get, including some healthier upscale options. If you're feeling carnivorous, the full rack is huge, meaty and has a great barbecue sauce. Full bar. Some discretely placed TV's to keep an eye on the game, but otherwise good for a date.
