We moved 3.5 hours away and I didn't have to change doctors, which we all know how hard that can be once your comfortable with one. If I could give Dr Sternberg 10 stars, I would! She asks all the right questions and actually listens and reflects on not only what the parents have to say but especially what the child has to say. But the reality is a low dose of a medication can go a long way in helping alleviate the symptoms of a child and greatly improve their lives and those around them. The counselors and staff are so caring, thoughtful and smart at Avenues. The whole program is so well thought out. Every hour of every day of every week is so well planned out and accounted for. No room for clients to be floundering. Each client has a plan tailored to him or her. There is a "clinical team" that reviews and plans for each client. Our counselor, Jenny D., is so concerned, careful and creative. On the birthdate ,of our daughter, who had passed away, Jenny thought to bring a helium balloon to my son, so he could attach a note and let it fly up to heaven to our angel. How thoughtful is that?!?! Medical and psychological problems are taken seriously by nurse practitioner Kai and his assistant Cindal. The Behavioral Health Counselors that monitor the goings on in the residences are respectful and caring. One in particular, Bryan, reads the big book with my son every Sunday night and assists with meal making, and is so concerned with each client. Can't say enough good things about Avenues. Thank God for them!

I have received accommodations before in college and provided my previous documentation. The response I received from Farah Assefnia, who works there as administrative office, was very brief, rude, and dismissive -- saying that they don't participate in that kind of service. When I followed up to ask if they have an age limit or don't serve adults, she simply said there is no age limit, however, they won't be able to provide documentation for college accommodations. Farah treated me poorly. Their website mentions "Support Services & Accommodations," so this was very unclear and disappointing. It was never specified if they specialize in accommodations for workplace, college students, high school students, middle school students, or elementary school students. I felt discriminated, disrespected, and dismissed. If they don't offer this service, a polite explanation and a referral to another clinic who has experience providing documentation and accommodations would have been the professional thing to do. I would not recommend this center to anyone who is a person of color, college students, young adults, or disabled individuals looking for support seeking support or accommodations. Farah Assefnia's response showed a complete lack of customer service skills. McLean Counseling Center needs to train their staff better or hire people who know how to treat clients with basic respect. They also need to update their website to specify what "Support Services & Accommodations" actually means.
