My husband had been craving bbq something serious so after comparing a few different places on Yelp we came across rack city ribz. I'd seen this place on social media so i already kinda had an idea of what was in store. We went on a Saturday afternoon. The truck is in a lot off of US 41 with plenty of parking and shade while you wait. We ordered the rib and brisket platter with two sides and some additional sides as well. Mac and cheese Collard Greens Cornbread casserole Potato salad Baked beans Phew we had quite a spread. It was plenty of food for us there was even lots of left overs. The bbq sauce was amazingggg & I should also note that my 11 year old loved the corn bread casserole she said she wanted that for her birthday (which ain't until September lol) Will definitely visit again as i could not get enough! I've been to this elevated food truck location several times but the lack of consistency remains the same. I'm going to start with the positives: love to see a local black owned business! The customer service is always 10/10 and the prices are extremely reasonable for the portions and quality. The brisket was probably some of the best if not the best I've ever had. When I talk specifically about consistency, the food is sometimes heavily salted to the point of no return. Seasoned food and salty food- two different things. This batch of sides were too salty and not appetizing. The ribs were bland so it was hard to accept that the same person was seasoning the food. Amazing BBQ from Rack City Ribz! This is a food truck located in Gibsonton. I went at 630pm on a Friday and they weren't sold out of anything which is great so I could try multiple things. The ribs were amazing! Delicious dry rub so juicy and perfectly tender. They offer a hot and sweet BBQ sauce homemade. I also got the sausage which had a nice kick to it. For side, the Mac and cheese and baked beans were so good. Also potato salad was a winner too! The baked beans had a nice sweetness to them as well. I have lived in Tampa since 1997 and have been looking for good BBQ ever since. I've had Rack City Ribz three times now. Every time I've had it, it has been so delicious. RCR is fantastic. I've had their ribs, brisket, pulled pork, sausage, pulled chicken and smoked chicken. Their pulled pork is some of the best I've ever had. It's so moist and tender and flavorful! My BF loves their brisket! Their sausage is so so good. Even their sauces are delicious (and I've tried them all since we've had them catered). I've also had their greens (not my favorite), their baked beans (delicious), their cornbread casserole (homemade and slightly sweet, so so good) and their potato salad (sweet and yummy). The other day was my first time visiting their food truck. The other two times, we've had it catered to my job. I called in a pick up order but had some questions about the menu and how to order. The gentleman who picked up the phone was very helpful with helping me decide how much of everything I should order. Then I needed to find out if the sauces were gluten-free for my BF who has celiac. The owner came over and told me pretty much every ingredient that goes into their sauces, so I could be sure it was safe for him. I've always liked hole in the walls and or quirky places. This is definitely one of them and I must say this one does not disappoint. I had the ribs, brisket with two side ( mac & cheese as well as baked beans ). I received 4 rib bones and they were very meaty. The brisket was tender but I had a lot of fat on it. My wife had the pull chicken and she said it was one of the best ones that she had ever had. She had some of my sides and she enjoyed both of those. And that says a lot because we are both mac & cheese snobs. The cost was a tad bit more than I would usually pay but not by much. I have always heard of smoke oxtails, but I could never find any around me. I'm so happy that someone told me that Rack City Ribz sell smokes oxtails, but only on Sundays. But lucky for me it's Sunday! I got the dinner oxtails with potato salad and cornbread, and all of it was really good! The oxtails were cooked perfectly with great flavor. The potato salad to me has a sweeter taste to it, but it's not too overwhelming. And the cornbread is really good too. I could tell it's homemade. Don't let "food truck" fool you. These folks are serious about their bbq!!! The first time we visited was about 30 minutes before close. The food was piping hot, full of flavor and attentively made. My Dad asked for a repeat because the ribs were so tender. The repeat, with family from Houston, didn't disappoint. The only challenge we had both times was they ran out of beans. On the third try we catered for an 80th Birthday celebration. The beans, potato salad, chicken and ribs were all impeccable. We tried a platter that had tasty ribs, tender brisket, spicy sausage, sweet pulled pork, and falling off the bone chicken with a side gooey Mac n cheese and creamy potato salad! The food was amazing. I am not from Florida originally. I have to say this is the best barbecue I've had in Florida. The service was very good and the atmosphere is fine. It's a food truck so you get your food and you can take it home. The only complaint is, I purchased the meat madness special and two additional sides. The baked beans were interesting different than what I have had in the past very thick sauce. The mac and cheese was decent not baked. and the the cheese looked a bit strange , but it tasted good. I ordered the rib dinner with some brisket and a chicken bowl. Both items came to $40. The chicken bowl wasn't in a bowl, it was in a Japanese style small snack tray with 1 1/2 scoops of macaroni on the bottom with a chopped chicken leg on top. After driving by a number of food trucks we decided for lunch on Saturday we'd give one of them a try, and ended up going to Rack City. Because it is on the side of a fast and busy highway it can be easy to miss, so just keep your eyes peeled and slow down as to not cause any accidents when turning in. There's no parking lot specifically for this truck, so you're just using the trailer supply or bait/tire shop lots. However this also means that parking isn't always available; e.g. there were cars waiting for spots while we were waiting on our food (more on the wait in a bit). When we arrived there was one couple who already ordered and was waiting on their food, and two other groups in line. Ordering was straightforward from the menu and they give you any drinks you ordered right after you pay. While ordering they also offer you one of their BBQ sauces that come in a ~2oz container. They offered us Sweet, Spicy, and Vinegar. We both asked for a spicy. Though I wish they gave more than one container each because it was so good. After ordering we stepped away from the truck to give room for other customers. They have an open area/kitchen for the smoker so you can see the chef cutting the meats and building orders. Everything smelled great! Things to note before I move onto the food: * The staff doesn't wear masks. * The staff doesn't offer hand sanitizer. * They don't take any of the other COVID safety precautions. So if this is something that you are not comfortable with, then maybe wait until you're vaccinated or etc. You are outside at all times though and the truck the staff is in is *VERY* well ventilated. Regardless, I know many people who would be uncomfortable with this so, to each their own, and now you know how this place operates. Now onto the food.... From the time of getting in line to getting our food was a good 30+ minutes. Not that long, however does feel longer in the Florida afternoon sun. We ordered the rib dinner plate ($14) and added brisket ($8). Got the coleslaw and BBQ beans as the sides, and added on an 8oz mac and cheese ($6). The ribs were absolutely DELICIOUS, especially with the BBQ sauce added. Great texture and pull. The brisket was perfect, with the fat completely rendered, and the meat so juicy. My mouth is salivating now remembering it... We've only tried a handful of BBQ spots in the area so far; e.g. Johnson's, but in my personal opinion, this spot is far better than any of the other ones. As I continue my food journey around the area, we'll see how this spot holds up in comparison. In the meantime, I'll be visiting this truck whenever I have a BBQ craving. They're going to be a tough one to beat. read more

Insanely delicious! I had the meat sampler that had the ribs , brisket, chicken breast, sausage, and pulled pork - which were all excellent. I don't normally have pulled pork because most places add too much sauce-this was fantastic, even the chicken breast was moist and smoky-most places dry out a chicken breast, done to perfection here. The greens and cabbage with chunks of brisket was the best I've ever had, and I've been to some of the best BBQ joints in Texas and SC. The ribs were so tender and flavorful, I instantly regretted not getting a 1/2 rack but the brisket and sausage were just as good. The best sausage I've had in a long time. The ribs were seasoned & tender. I asked for the Kansas City mustard bbq sauce on the side which only enhanced the flavor of the rib. The dinner comes with 2 sides but I had to get 2 more just to try out lol. The Mac & cheese is yummy. Taste like there is a slight kick to it which I liked. The corn casserole was soo good.
