I love the large variety of fabric they have but I've decided to stop going to Marshall Fabrics due to the disgusting scent in the store. Every time I've been there, it stinks like rotting meat. I'd rather pay more money elsewhere than to be nauseous for the rest of the day. read more

This place is HUGE, warehouse huge. Every time I am in this place I spend at least an hour looking through the enormous amount of fabric. Something I've come to appreciate about this place is that they have signs with fabric type written over every gigantic section. I only gave this place 3 stars because the service is hit or miss (usually miss)... it's usually a lot better if you're dealing with someone in their 20's (in my personal experience). Also the prices are not always attached to fabric bolts, that wouldn't necessarily be a problem if I didn't already dislike interacting with the people who work here. It's rare to find trendy fabric here (the way you will at Fabricland) but they have classics and basics at extremely fair prices (and you don't even have to have a membership). read more

Bought a zipper for a jacket at Marshall Fabrics on Berry Street. Marshall did not have much selection and I wanted a metal zipper and all they had was plastic zippers. It was late in the day and I did not think I would have time to go to another store so I bought the plastic zipper. Then I found that the closest Fabricland was open even later than Marshalls so I headed over there. They had much more extensive selection, and I found a metal zipper for almost half the price of the plastic zipper I bought at Marshalls. I went back to Marshalls, and then saw the signs I had not seen previously that said all sales are final. Which I can understand for fabric, but apparently this also applies to all notions as well. And they would not let me return the zipper. So my recommendation, based on service, selection, and their poor return policy, is to avoid Marshall Fabric and go to Fabricland. read more

This place is huge and probably has anything you need. (Fabric for decorating, upholstery, weddings, sewing etc.) I used to love going there until recently... it seriously smells horrible in there... like rotten cheese and dead bodies.. I'm not kidding it stinks. If you can get past the strange smells that's popped up it is definitely worth it to go. read more

Great prices and knowledgeable staff. My go to for anything sewing related. The staff have always been friendly to me and are ready to help if asked. Such a wide variety of fabrics and you don't need to pay for membership PLUS lower prices than fabrucland. read more

Great place for basics but don't expect help. Excellent prices and the sales staff will help answer a question or two, but do not expect them to hold your hand as you shop -I've worked in a fabric shop, it's a physically hard job and quite frankly they aren't paid enough to make other people's descisions-you get what you pay for...either pay 40-60% more someplaces else or find a sewing-buddy to walk you through the store. You'll find the fashion fabrics if you learn how to dig for them. Gave them 3 out of 5 because , yes, sometimes the prices are hard to find and their minimum cut is 1 meter. read more

I go here all the time for quality discount fabrics for personal and with work. Usually you're hard pressed to get help and the staff is grumpy. However yesterday I took my students for fabric shopping and the store was all rearranged and a very helpful and pleasant woman assisted us in Bridal. She gave us swatches right there and even helped us find particular fabrics. We went back later (after fabrics were picked from swatches) and bought fabric for class and she pleasantly greeted us! I bought flannel fabric there while on a business trip. When I got home I noticed that the fabric had a flaw all the way done the creases. This affected 10 meters of fabric. Marshall's Winnipeg branch worked with me to resolve the issue. I live in BC and had no plans to go to Winnipeg for a few more months. Marshall's refunded all my money and added money to ship the fabric back to them. I am truly impressed. read more
