Even w/o a true banking account here, this formerly excellent credit union manages to provide me w/ poor service. With just $5 in my account (necessary in order to keep my auto loan), BILL PAY via Navy Federal atomically sends my loan pmt here twice monthly. Yesterday I received a Late Notice on my loan, which is impossible due to the automatic nature of my payment. After acquiring the assistance of Navy Fed personnel, I was informed that my January payment had been sent on time, but Sunstate had held onto it for many days before depositing it. Due to Sunstate's delay, I was notified that my payment was late & I would soon be charged a late fee. You can't make this stuff up! This once excellent banking establishment (that I found in 1997) is now a shell of its former self. read more

I've been banking with this bank for about five years now and boy, do I regret it. I used to have Bank of America and wanted to avoid a $12 a month fee, as well as not support a bank that gives money to wars and other nefarious causes. But this bank has provided me with so many other issues. I gave the bank a "3" rating due to the fact I like the tellers a lot- they are all really personable and friendly. But here is a list of problems I've had with them. -When I first opened up my account, they initially refused to honor my paycheck. The man working/managing the fraud department was very rude, and insinuated I was some kind of idiot who got a "fake job off of craigslist" and chuckled about how he didn't think he would honor my paycheck. -I am denied for purchases and my account gets locked for purchases I MYSELF MAKE, yet when I have fraudulent activity on my account, I get no call from fraud prevention, and I have to go through an arduous lengthy process for a refund due to a hacker. -Their ATM is almost ALWAYS broken. -The second closest bank from downtown is a 20 minute drive in a car (if you have one). -Overdrafts cost MORE with Radiant than at Bank of America. -Right now, my online banking isn't available to me, I have no idea why, I'm stressed about being potentially hacked AGAIN, and yet there is no number online for fraud prevention. Right now I don't even know if I'm being robbed because there don't seem to be any after hours workers. Do yourself a favor and go to a big bank, because when I had Bank of America if I EVER had an issue like this, it got fixed right away. I honestly suspect credit unions might be purposefully shitty in order to sway you into paying the fees at big banks. read more

I switched to Sunstate in 2011 so I would be supporting a local institution rather than a big bank, and have since then watched them devolve from a 5-star to a 1-star business. Especially in the past two years - their service quality has degraded along with banking regulations. My biggest issue with them is transaction processing times, as another reviewer mentioned. I've had paychecks held for days after it had cleared my employer's bank, while Sunstate collected overdraft fees from me. I feel bad for every person to whom I recommend them in the past. read more

I attempted to use my card and do other transactions that would not go through, went through the drive thru and was told to come inside. Of course it was during the Pandemic and the inside was closed. However, Johnnie ran out to my car to find out what I needed help with. I gave him a long list of issues and believe it or not, everyone was completed and corrected from the parking lot. Never in such a long time have I received service at this level. I was really having a bad day and his level of service enlightened my mood. People always complain but never let people know when they have gone above and beyond. I have had several drive thru experiences with same person and level of courtesy, and asking me "before" completing my transaction shows higher standard than others. He should be your trainer, maybe the others will get it right the first time. read more

If your going to get a loan make sure to ask questions since we the people are not lending experts! Such if I purchase this year of vehicle how long can I finance and length of loan, fees, read fine print if an attorney did he would probably say don't sign it! Since there having a sale under the pretense no payment for 90 the person that wrote up my loan was very additament that I pay my first payment the following month " No need to wait 90 days" even though I was aware interest still accrued. I was really looking forward to no payments for 90 days, but the loan person was very pushy. I will deal with another bank next time. I don't like false advertisement or misleading advertisement, or pushy bank employees, its not what they want its what I want!!! May 4-14, 2018 Extended until May 19th. Awesome local bank. I love that I am supporting a local institution.... I recently switched from Wells Fargo. I am very happy with the online banking, they even have an app for iphone! It's nice because my debit card is linked to visa, so even if I travel to a city without a branch, I can use my card or go to any ATM. read more

I opened an account with them on purpose as I wanted to stay away from the big banks. I've been a customer since late 2012 and have not had any issues until now. Apparently, they decide when to process transactions at their own convenience. My account was over drafted a few days ago after I paid my rent. The day I gave the check to my landlord, I made sure I had the money in the bank and there were no transactions pending. And so it was, until yesterday when I was informed through mail that my account didn't have enough funds, so a $40.00 over draft fee was applied. I went online to see what has happened actually, for I have not used my card at all since writing the rent check. Well, a transaction I made on 5/18 was processed on 6/02 by Sunstate and by 6/04 I was charged overdraft and my account went negative. I went to Walgreens to find out if this had anything to do with them, as the purchase was made there. The manager printed out a copy of the receipt with the date of the transaction and when it was actually processed. It was the same day, 5/18, no delay at all. Now back to Sunstate. I had to explain what had happened and while I did get the fee reimbursed, it did not occur without my being extremely aggravated at the person from Sunstate. I was told it was my responsibility to write down the transactions I make and keep track of when they clear. I thought that was condescending as their job is to process transactions when they take place and not when there's opportunity to rip off the customer. I think this maneuver is particularly speculative and predatory and it's done in hopes the customer does not make a big stink over it and ends up paying the fee. She kept reiterating the same thing over and over, as if I were some teenager getting scolded over not knowing how many peanuts I have in my pocket. Obviously, I know what my finances look like and something like this has never happened to me before at any other bank, no matter how sharks they were. I'll pay the fee when it's my fault, but this was certainly Sunstate's mistake. Of course the employee didn't think so and went on to tell me that this happens quite frequently... of course it does, funny how it has never happened before during the 12 years I've been banking in this country. I understand 2-3 days for something to go through, but 3 weeks is quite a stretch. And to tell me that I should write my transaction down like we are living in the 19th century when your system is digitized is preposterous. So, I'm not happy about this incident at all. I will be looking at other banks and weigh in my options. In conclusion, Sunstate is just as horrible as any other bank. What a shame! read more

Very very disappointed in this place. Been with them for over 4 years, had a personal loan never missed any payments for 2 years, now during financial hardship they will not work with me to lower payments when there is only 1 year remaining on loan. So they would rather have no payments then work with me to make something affordable at the moment. SMH. read more

Opened account a couple of months ago because BOFA sold the branches in my town to another bank and I've had nothing but problems with Sunstate FCU it appears that anything over a hundred of activity with your debit card gets declined even when your balance is thousands of $$. If you have good credit and haven't need to finance any thing the past 4years then this is not the. Reedit union for you I went in for a small loan just 1600 haven't had anything financed since 2011 but you could see that when my credit was pulled all my last loans with no issues that were way more then this was. I was offered 1000 at 18% I guess I was wearing my stupid shirt that day I am a business owner and would of considered. Moving all my accounts but after this I think I'll stick with capital city. Thought I would have a better experience with a credit union than with one of the big banks. I was wrong! First, the Internet banking does not reflect balances for charges that are up to 3 days old. Paid $180 ($45 NSF fee wow!) for a $12 mistake because of their inaccurate app (all the while having money in a personal account to cover any overages). Absolutely no understanding from this bank, we were told to keep a register. Lesson learned! read more
