Encouraged to stay here during an out-of-town visit and was unfortunately very disappointed. The hotel has a lot of charm - for example, I really enjoyed being handed physical keys to the room. The lobby area I don't have anything negative to note and the connected bar/restaurant looked nice. Our room was in rough shape. The bathroom ceiling had an extreme leak with bad stains and the floor and toilet were soaked. Walls are pretty thin and you can hear a dog on our floor barking and other conversations happening in other rooms. Bed was small, uncomfortable, and squeaky. The only other room available that evening was the room causing the leak in our original room. The sink was running and there was a smell of mildew & chemicals in the entire room. The chair at the desk was disgusting and covered in stains. We had to find a hotel at 12AM refusing to stay at Hotel Wayne. Again, I appreciate the older charm to the place, but a lot needs to be kept up with - especially for ~$200/night. read more

The lobby attendant was very unprofessional letting out a yell that made me wonder what we were getting into here. She had a cramp. The carpet is the first disgusting thing I noticed. We had a room on second floor (214) the hall way was filled with a dozen large open plastic trash bags which I think was dirty laundry so there was a funk in air which they thought would be fixed with a fan. The room was outdated with cheap curtains which made it look tacky. There are two stains on carpet. The shower is a disgusting joke! My husband couldn't turn around. He is 6 feet tall 185. lbs. The shower floor was painted over many times & was covered up with a mat. The shower floor was wobbly. The hotel is old but this was never kept up and it shows. We own a two hundred year old home so I know a thing or two with the difference between historical old & neglected! There were several extension cords to plug in window a/c which told me the electrical was not updated in a very long time which made think are these outlets over loaded & start a fire? The sink had a crack in it. The kerig coffee machine in lobby was fine but very basic with bagged danish. As we were drinking coffee we realized our bedroom was above us by the stain on ceiling & said one day someone will go through that shower floor. The porch is covered with same lobby carpet to cover the rotting wood underneath. The iron pillar which cracked in half was kept stable with a cable tie. This was an excellent dining experience. A lazy Sunday afternoon was the perfect backdrop for a truly superb meal. I had the Delmonico steak which was delicious. My companions had the crab stuffed flouner and chicken parmagiana . Everyone raved about their meal. The desserts, often a disappointment, were as good as the meal! Brownie with whip cream, Creme Brûlée, and ice cream Sundae were each excellent. Im very impressed by this restaurant and will come by again when I am in town. Expedia and other sites have referred to the Hotel Wayne as a "three-star hotel." It isn't - not even close. I stayed in two-star hotels on our Poconos trip that offered far more in the way of amenities and comfort (and were also less expensive). Yes, it's a historic building with a lot of charm, especially in the restaurant. But there are simple fixes that could make this old hotel so much more. On the plus side, the staff was nice and it's a quick walk into Honesdale's Main Street of shops. We stayed in a second floor room that did not look like the photos on the brochure, which I'm assuming are the suites. The queen mattress was so soft and saggy that I woke up every time my husband changed sleeping positions. The high windows faced the street (and the neon Shell station sign) but we couldn't pull the curtains without covering the window A/C unit - something that could easily be fixed with adjustable window treatments/shades. There are no stairs, and there's no sign on the entrance door to the hotel - we took a guess and entered through the restaurant. Breakfast pastries were prepackaged honey buns and such of the Little Debbie variety. The sink was in the bedroom and it made a deep gurgling sound for a few minutes after it was used - but not immediately afterwards. There was no sink stopper so I don't know if there's all manner of things down there or the pipes are just old. I didn't have problems with the hot water in the shower, but the shower stall was so tiny that my elbow knocked the water off twice while I was in there. The room had a rack and some hangers, but no closet or bureau. (No iron/ironing board or hair dryer, although maybe these can be furnished on request.) Calling this a "business hotel" - other than the free wi-fi - is just misguided. I'm guessing that since Honesdale's becoming a trendy destination, the Wayne can get away with charging what it does. And I don't like to leave a negative review, but there was a disconnect between how the Wayne is portrayed and what we experienced. 2024 Thanksgiving dinner was subpar. I was given 1 piece of turkey and ham and then told there was no more turkey. For $37 there should be at least a few pieces on the plate. I was eventually told the waiter managed to get me 1 more slice of turkey. It made me feel like I was a bother asking for more. Mashed potatoes were cold. Food was tasty but the serving size and temp were unacceptable. It was busy by not so busy for these mistakes to happen. The food is not worth the money. Very disappointed. Yes it's old and historical but it doesn't have to be dirty and rundown. Old worn carpet throughout hotel with stains and torn areas. The limited staff that works there - bar and restaurant - do the best they can, but there was no one that I saw who actually runs the hotel side. That should have been my first clue. I can't believe the electrical configurations even pass code. That being said there's only one to actually access and it was behind the bed. There was an obvious sewer smell in room which was annoying. There was no point asking for a different room as no one was in charge and I'm sure same issue throughout hotel. . If you stay you need to know the bar is busy and noisy and music plays til after 11 and can be heard throughout hotel. I think the bar and restaurant are the main attraction for this business. . When checking in I was told I was lucky there were two waitresses, otherwise she would have to ignore us. Really??? Very old window A/C unit poorly installed with gaps in window. The only type of heat I saw was a plug in heater....but plug in where..... Do yourself a favor and find another place to stay read more

I'm from New Jersey in a suburb right outside of NYC and was in the middle of nowhere PA for a wedding. My bf and I stayed here at the Hotel Wayne for two nights. Lots of good and some bad. Here it is. Pros: 1. Wi-Fi 2. Friendly hotel staff that will actually go the extra mile for you - we missed the shuttle to the wedding venue and Jen made sure we got a taxi that was coming from the other hotel with two other people that missed the shuttle as well. She was on top of it and kept us updated. 3. Big room - maybe because we had the corner (room 316) but it was quite large, had a desk, dresser, closet and 4 large windows. 4. Historical - the hotel was built in the 1800s IIRC. Cool paintings on the walls. Cons: 1. No elevator - this doesn't bother me I always take the stairs but I understand this may be a deterrent to others. 2. The water system - the signs say don't flush the toilet when someone is showering but if someone in another room somewhere in the hotel flushes then your shower will turn off for 10 seconds and turn back on freezing cold for another 10 seconds until going back to normal. 3. Street parking only - one side is metered but the other side isn't. We got lucky on the non-metered side for our two nights. All in all, I enjoyed my experience here. I've stayed in dozens of Marriotts, Hilton's, holiday expresses and so on but rarely do I get to stay in a hotel that's not a chain. Hotel Wayne has character, history and charm and while it is not perfect, it will give you an experience unlike what you're used to especially if you're a city person. read more

I've been here many times. The food is decent but the service is HORRIBLE. Made a reservation for our party after laying four loved ones to rest. We sat at the table for 45 MINUTES (I'm not exaggerating) with nothing but water in front of us. When one of us asked the server how long it would be before our order was taken, she responded in a very rude manner. Fine dining consists of good food, drink and service. We stopped here on our first night in the area, it was recommended by the staff at the bed and breakfast we were staying at. I got the lobster bisque as a appetizer, while it wasnt alot of lobster, the taste was spot on. For dinner I ordered the shrimp and scallop dish. This dish was so good and they give you a ton of food, I had to get a to go container. I highly recommend this spot if you are in the neighborhood. Hotel Wayne is considered a historic building. The downstairs is fun with the restaurant and bar and the food was tasty. That said, the rooms are a challenge. The bathroom was very small and the shower runs hot or cold depending on who flushes down the hall. The electric is not modernized for current technology needs with insufficient plugs and no USB ports. There is no plug in the bathroom. The mattress also appears to be a historical relic and my wife and I found ourselves rolling into the middle. There also is no elevator and all rooms are on the second or third floor. If you want a unique experience in a historic hotel, stay there, but if you want a comfortable stay, look elsewhere. read more

This review is only for the restaurant. Wow. It's delicious. Staff is polite. The cheesesteak was absolutely scrumptious. I appreciated the portions, and the fries were good, too. This place used to be so good. Always consistent and I never had a bad meal. The last year it's gone downhill. I ordered the shrimp tacos...the shrimp was so tiny, it had to be canned shrimp. They thought they'd fool me with the pound of shredded lettuce piled on top hiding the shrimp. But I'm too smart for them! If I could give this place zero stars I would. The servers are lovely and work so hard. They get 5 stars. The food? Zero. It's obvious the owners have no clue - unless they like canned shrimp. This Saturday we went for lunch and service was lackadaisical. Our waitress delivered fried sweet potatoes, that were wonderful, but spilled them all over the table. Put them back on the plate and barely apologized. Food was great, but service was lacking. A lady fell on the steps coming in and I got up to see if she was ok, but her husband had her on her feet. The couple was in their 60/70s. I told the bartender who was busy eating, and no one from the restaurant even approached then sure the were ok. I'm pretty sure I saw waitress talk to owner or manager and they dismissed the incident. Only patrons checked on the couple. BEST DINNER I'VE EVER HAD OUTSIDE NYC!! I went to Bistro 1202 inside the Wayne Hotel last night for my sister's birthday. To my immediate surprise, I discovered they have a large selection of microbrews and specialty beers along with many varieties on tap for more than HALF the price I pay back in Manhattan. The food is something out of Gourmet Magazine, truly! As an appetizer, I enjoyed the Bistro Chips which are ther fresh cut seasoned potato chips tossed with crumbled blue cheese, scallion and white truffle oil...for ONLY $6.95!! For my entree, I ordered the blue cheese crusted filet mignon with horseradish mashed potatoes, sauteed spinach and a port wine reduction. I seriously thought I was dining on Park Avenue. The steak was cooked medium rare and literally melted in my mouth. Spinach and potatoes were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I got married in Honesdale this past Saturday (9/18). We chose to stay at the Hotel Wayne because it had a bar downstairs. We stuck with our choice despite the fact the hotel was overpriced for what it is and where it's located, it cannot accommodate handicap people, some people could barely fit into their tiny bathrooms, and at least one of friends had stained sheets, because of the convenience of it having a bar. A couple friends and I stayed Friday night as well and had a great time. The bartender working Friday night was great. We hung out and spent a lot of money, seeing as they're charging $6.75 for one white claw. Then Saturday comes around and after our wedding is over, everyone goes back to the hotel to drink. And I do mean everyone. I would be very surprised if one single rented room in that hotel was for anyone NOT attending our wedding, plus we brought other guests. We got there around 11, and I was informed by friends before I even made it inside that the bartender (named Lisa) was shutting the bar down and refused to serve anyone, because she had to "be there early to cook the next day". I also heard she was entirely rude. Was our group rowdy? Sure, we just came from a wedding. But every single person was staying at this hotel or had a DD. Instead, we had a very kind local walk us about 2.5 blocks to a different bar that was open, who had no problem serving anyone in our group. The Hotel Wayne missed out on a LOT of money that night, and so did Lisa. Without the bar willing to be open and serve people, this hotel is NOT worth the almost $150 a night we spent. Also, I'm not sure where Lisa was cooking the next day, because none of us saw anyone around to make breakfast Sunday morning. read more

This has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The room was dirty looking, AC wasn't very cold and the water in the shower was unpredictable. It was warm one minute, then turned burning hot the next second. It was safety hazard. The pillows were uncomfortable, and sheets had a very strong bleach smell. I barely slept at all. I notified the staff with all my issues. She was receptive and said she would let management know and get back to know. I haven't heard back from managent. I would love to recommend the Hotel Wayne, but I can't. Even with the dearth of options, in/near Honesdale, it doesn't rise above the level of mediocre. The building is historic, but I'm afraid that extends to the plumbing. If anyone, anywhere in the hotel, flushes a toilet, everyone's hot water disappears for minutes. If you're washing your hands, this may not hinder you. But if you're showering, it's a prohibitive problem. The rooms are in desperate need of updating, from the stained carpeting to the bed frames. The queen bed rooms are spacious enough, but the lay-outs aren't efficient. If you make the mistake of booking a full bed room, don't plan on moving around, other than from the door to the bed. If the hotel charged prices that were more aligned with the quality of the rooms, it would make more sense. But $150/night is simply offensive. The staff is polite & helpful. They deserve credit. The restaurant, too, is quite good & reasonably priced. Parking is easy, either on the street (meters Mon - Sat, until 6pm), or in the lot behind the hotel. read more

A 3 star should have been the warning but when options are limited, you stay where there is availability. I booked over 3 weeks ago for a wedding in the area. I get to the hotel after a 3 hour trip to find that my room was canceled. Apparently someone by the name of Chelsy tried to contact me via email (since whomever booked my reservation did not input my phone number) but the email never went through since it was not sent correctly. I received the confirmation without any problem. Jim the "manager" was of no help and basically "was my problem". So I'll be missing a wedding tonight since I have nowhere to change or stay since anything in the radius is completely booked. Thanks guys! 0 stars if I could. I stayed 3 nights here with my family. We are a family of 5. We were promised 4 beds, we got 2 and a cot. Not only that, there were spiders and ants all over the walls. The ceiling also had mold and was disgusting. To add on, the security was very poor, none of the locks on the doors worked, and you could push the door open when it was locked. This did not make us feel safe. The last thing was no smoking policy. They have a no inside smoking rule, yet the hallways smell like cigarettes and mold. Quite difficult to breathe with Asthma. Went there for their Christmas dinner of prime rib. When we made the reservations, we were told two sizes of meat and prices of $17.95 & $25.95. So once getting there, there was only one size at $37.95!!! Then the meat wasn't cooked (slow roasted with nice spices on the crust) nope pre cut pieces put in the microwave. All came out that ugly grey color. No flavoring. Green beans were horrible. So will we go back...no. A lot of money for not a lot of good food. read more

I stayed at the Hotel Wayne recently for a full week on a business trip. The hotel is much improved from what the reviews from two years ago seem to reflect. My understanding is that the bar and restaurant were significantly upgraded to provide a fine dining experience. I enjoyed a couple of great dinners in the restaurant. The bartender is very sharp, and the wine list is a good one. Prices are very fair. The filet was one of the best steaks I have ever eaten in a restaurant. The Hotel is an old building with lots of charm. That's not for every traveler, but as a business traveler it's a nice change of pace from chain hotels. The place was dead quiet at night, and I never heard noise from the bar area or anywhere else. When you add in the reasonable price, the Hotel Wayne stacks up as a tremendous travel value. read more

I didn't dine here - just needed a place to sleep that night. It's a really nifty historical building. It's a tad bit worn but neat and clean. The hotel has lots of charm and quirks. Sink was in the room. Toilet and shower in a "closet". A/C worked GREAT! (hot day and night). NOTE: brochure says free parking but that's not quite accurate - they use an adjoining parking lot that is the local hospital's employee parking lot. Bring change for the meters as you may end up parking on the street. Wifi is free but you have to get access codes from the front desk. Side Note: a few moments after going to bed I thought I felt someone patting the foot of the bed, like they wanted to sit there. Door was locked - no one else in the room. I scrunched my feet up and the "patting" stopped. No one (or nothing) sat down. I didn't notice any other "happenings" that night and I slept well. Just saying . . read more

A great place to stop for a 1 or 2 night stay , rooms were cheap, clean & as an added bonus Haunted, you definitely get the creeps walking the halls at 3am. They also have a nice tavern on the ground floor with some good bar food & tap beer. Let me preface this review by saying our family has gone to the Hotel Wayne on numerous occasions including several special event such as Thanksgiving and Mother's Day, where we have come with between 12-16 family members. We have always had a wonderful time and the food has always been excellent. Today, Father's Day, my wife and I stopped by for lunch. It was early afternoon and the restaurant and bar were not very busy at the time. We ordered our food and two sodas. The food was taking an unusual time and I had finished my soda. I push the glass away from me, signaling to the waitstaff that I would like another. I can not tell you how many times three different staff walked past without refilling the drink. Again, it was not busy and two of the staff stopped numerous times to look at and engage with their cell phones. During the time I witnessed two separate guest have to come to the bar to pay their check as the waitstaff were more engaged with personal conversations and their phones. During this time my glass moved closer to the edge of the table without an attempt to refill. We were now about 45 minutes waiting for two burgers and no one came to apologize or update us on the status. I have worked in the service industry for a number of years and will cut the waitstaff and kitchen a lot of slack, understanding how difficult the job is, especially in today's climate. The restaurant, however was not very busy and the two waitstaff had plenty of time to spend on their phones. Finally the food came with an apology and explanation, which should have come much earlier and we would have understood. If I had either waitstaff's number I would have texted them for service. When the food came, the server took my empty glass for refill. I asked if she would bring ketchup, please. She filled the glass, set it on the bar, then engaged in a conversation with someone she apparently knew without bring the drink or ketchup to the table. Intrigued by the lacking service, I waited to see how long it would take to get my drink and the ketchup. Apparently longer than my hungry stomach could take, so my wife retrieved both. All within eye shot of our server who was still engaged in a conversation with someone she knew. There was no apology or thank you for getting the drink from the server. As we ate, we continued to watch as the staff spend more time on their personal phones than attention to guests. No one even checked to make certain our food was prepared correctly or if there was anything else we needed. The food, as always was very good. The service was more than a disappointment. I post this because I don't want to see service at the Hotel Wayne fall to mediocrity. Again, I will give an awful lot of grace to servers these day, and have tipped generously, especially during these challenging few years. But you don't get a pass when you are not overly busy and spend more time on your cell and engaging in personal conversations than taking care of you customers. Please see this a constructive criticism from someone who knows your team is capable of much better service than we experience today. read more
