I have been wanting to try the Rail Explorers while in Kentucky, and I'm so glad I finally did! My fiancé, my brother, and I went on the carts a few days ago and had so much fun! The scenery is beautiful and the ride was quite easy! It takes about 45 minutes each way with a break at an overlook while they turn the carts around. The employees are very friendly and helpful, they want you to have an awesome experience!

This was a fantastic experience!! We went for the Sunset Cruise and it was amazing. You lie right on these little rail cars that you pedal to supply the engine with power. It's very easy to pedal so no worries! There are cars for four people or two people. You ride 4 miles down to a beautiful overlook and then 4 miles back to the starting spot. They have awesome outdoor seating, drinks, T-shirts, and other paraphernalia for you to purchase. They have great seating as well! The staff was fantastic, very outgoing and helpful .

A unique experience. I would highly recommend. Pointers:bring a small cooler with water, a big hat, shades, snacks, plenty of sunscreen and your patience. You will need these things Before the ride begins. Once you get going, it's a wonderful experience. The cars are motorized, so they are effortless to propel and simple to brake. Very safe and doesn't go any faster, no matter how hard you pedal. The ride last about 2 hours and takes you through beautiful KY hillsides and farms where you will see and smell grazing horses and cows. The ride is pretty shady and ends at a scenic lookout of Wild Turkey distillery and a historic bridge. Very beautiful, iconic KY scene. The staff are friendly and helpful. We took the 5:00 Pm tour and it was HOT. The only downside of this tour is that the boarding process is very slow and you are waiting your turn in line while sitting in the full sun in your railcar while the riders ahead of you receive instructions and depart. They do have umbrella on each railcar, but they don't help very much when it's hot outside. I would recommend them building a long canopy that covers the full line of cars or that they not board everyone at once. All in all after we actually departed, if was a wonderful experience. Just like the video ads. Great outing for the entire family.

2 person cart, they also had 4 person. Dogs allowed too

Wonderful experience. We went faster than anticipated and it was much easier as well. Thanks to the motorized carts only one person had to really pedal and not that much. The scenery is beautiful. Would highly recommend for a break in between bourbon tours.

This is too cool. Pedaling is much easier than you think it's going to be. Beautiful scenic route that ends at the bridge, you don't go over it.

What an incredible experience. On line booking was easy, easy to find the location, easy checkin once we arrived. Plus polite and professional young staff. The rail cars have plenty of room for a small cooler and other personal items. The cars are equipped with drink holders and come equipped with umbrellas unless it rains. It is a two hour experience but your ate only on the rails about 1 hour and 10 minutes of that time. 5 miles down the track, you get out of your cars for the turn around and back the same five miles. At the turnaround is where you could have a snack or you can snack as you ride since you are seat belted in but can reach everything in your car. Easy to maneuver, fun experience all should do. Rain or shine. Plenty of nice seating at the beginning of the ride as well as at the turnaround while you wait.

We had a great time on this tail excursion. We really didn't know what to expect but the crew (AJ, Drew, Mark, Seth and Autumn) we very informative, helpful and entertaining. You can pedal as little or as much as you want. It's a great activity for all ages. Highly recommend!

My husband and I recently went to Kentucky for a short anniversary trip. I found this here on Tripadvisor and thought it looked really cool! The set up that they had was very nice and it was easy to find. The staff were all friendly and helpful. You could tell they knew what they were doing, and everything was extremely safe. They did not rush with anything and made sure that everyone riding was paying attention for safety of everyone. Even though it was 90+ degrees outside, the ride was so nice and refreshing. We were going fast enough to get a breeze that helped us cool off a bit. We really liked that they had the bin so that you can put your belongings in there and have them with you while you're on your ride. I was worried when we got there and I saw how many people were there that would be intrusive or loud but honestly once you get going, you rarely ever see the other people until you get to a stopping point. We felt like we were all alone, but we knew that at any point if we needed help, we would be able to get it. The Kentucky countryside is absolutely gorgeous and the overlook where we stopped was beautiful. The nice thing is that the motor does pretty much all the work. We still peddled because it does help, but you don't have to. You can go as leisurely or as fast as you want to as long as you're being safe and not getting too close to people in front of you which again only happened maybe Twice in the whole two hours that we were there .I would absolutely do it again and I've been telling all my friends about it! They all think it looks amazing as well. The only negative feedback that I did want to mention is that our original timeslot of 8 AM got canceled and we needed to pick a new one and many were already sold out when I got the call and had to pick a new one or cancel if I couldn't. With us only being in town for one full day and two half days, this really was tricky to try to reschedule because everything was so tightly planned. This was the first thing that we had booked. Ended up working out and the 6 PM ride was wonderful, but having something planned and then canceled for a non-weather related issue is very frustrating especially when we had kind of planned all other bookings around that one. But again would still try it again.

Drinks can also be ordered and purchased on line. (I think snacks were also available). We booked our cruise several months in advance with tour and tasting tickets at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Two members of our party backed out and we were able to cancel their reservations (thankfully) the week before and get a refund. We started with our visit to Buffalo Trace. We arrived about an hour early so we could shop at the distillery and we were glad we did because we did not have time to shop after the tasting and getting to the boat. The tight timeline between the tasting and the boat departure was the only downside to the trip. I recommend the cruise, but plan on going at least an hour early to the distillery to shop.

The weather was enjoyable in late September and the shaded top deck had 360° views. The crew were friendly and attentive, the boat clean and in good shape. There is a drink menu available online, the prices were reasonable and the selection extensive. Nathan was our guide and we recommend them. They were knowledgeable and got a few laughs out of us. The sites seen along the way were lovely and some only accessible by boat. Passing under the bridges and by nature was made more fun knowing their history, we also saw the effects of the recent flood. We didn't see the distillery, but that might have been a different tour, different season or a result of the flood, but we got to see the singing bridge, which we were told would be deconstructed in time. We had a great time aboard the Kentucky River Boat and would return. Be sure to tip your tour guide as ours added to the experience!

One of the booths was Boone Creek Creamery. Since I love cheese, I had to indulge and buy myself some! I love hot and spicy, so two of the flavors I got were "Sassy" (Sharp Cheddar with peppercorn and red pepper) and "Habanero" (Sharp White Cheddar with Habanero Peppers). Sassy was unexpectedly wonderful. Rather than hitting the tongue with heat, the heat was more in the back of the mouth and throat and lingered. No too much, but not too little either. Delicious. The Habanero on the other hand, exploded with heat from the initial bite. This one didn't hold back, it was full-on HOT! Way too often things that advertise Habanero try to be delicate... this cheese was not delicate in any way. It was HAWT!! And I'm a huge fan!! My third block is Blueberry White Cheddar. I haven't had any of it yet, but I have no doubt it will be epic! This was such a pleasant unexpected find. If you are in Lexington and like cheese... check them out. You won't be disappointed!!

For future readers, you'll recall that the spring of 2021 was a crazy time, coming off all the COVID lockdowns. Many distillers, who hadn't been open for tours for many months, were finally opening their doors, and demand for tours and tastings far exceeded availability. Tommy apparently has a few connections, and was able to get us the Connoisseur's Tasting at Heaven Hill, and the full tour and tasting at Maker's Mark. The experience was great: The van was large and comfortable, and Tommy--locally raised--knows the area, it's history, and plenty about the distilleries. In addition to the planned stops, he also made an unscheduled stop at the tiny Limestone Branch Distillery so we could taste some craft cocktails and buy some souvenirs. Bottom line: If you love bourbon, and you're looking for a relaxing, enjoyable, and memorable afternoon in the heart of bourbon country, you will not go wrong with Tommy and CopperTop Tours.
