Travel the Trail is an excellent tour company! It was very easy to coordinate the timing, payment, and itinerary through the the owner, Lee, who was very knowledgeable and friendly. On the day of the tour, my boyfriend and I were picked up at our hotel by a comfortable van driven by our tour guide, Andy. The van came stocked with cold bottles of water and a few snacks like pretzels, peanut butter cracker sandwiches, and granola bars. We hit the road and made stops at Heaven Hill, Willet, and Maker's Mark distilleries, with an included break for lunch at a local spot in Bardstown (Mammy's Kitchen & Bar). Each distillery hosted a tasting, and we also did full tours at both Willet and Maker's Mark. Andy was a terrific guide; he was experienced, friendly, and patient. At the end of our ~8.5 hour day, we were dropped off at our hotel doorstop. It was such a fun and relaxing excursion that we were able to enjoy at an affordable cost. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to use Travel the Trail as planned this April as a result of the Covid-19 virus. Regardless, Lee had everything set up and arranged for us and went to lengths to help us figure out what we wanted. I was solely organizing my friend's 2-day bachelor party on the Bourbon Trail with 11 other guys and I'm pretty sure I was a nuisance at some points or I personally would've thought so, but Lee couldn't have been nicer and he accommodated every request from this bourbon snob trying to create a custom tour of the Bourbon Trail. We weren't able to do the Trail in April, but when we do it when the pandemic is over I'll definitely use Travel the Trail. Furthermore, I talked to many companies like Mint Julep and numerous others and the price and customer service doesn't even measure up. Some companies didn't get back to me at all, some took a couple weeks to email me back and one limo company was extremely rude. Some were good about communication, but ridiculously expensive. Travel the Trail communicated everything with me promptly, worked hard to get me what I requested and is very fairly priced. I will use them and only them in the future. read more

Our family had such a fun and memorable day with Lee and MA! We started off our day by traveling to Airdrie Stud in Versailles and we toured one of their horse farms! We got to see winning race horses up close and personal as well as tour the grounds. We then went to lunch at the Wallace Station (lunch is included in the price!) which was delicious. Last month my wife and I, along with two other couples, booked Travel the Trail for a tour of three Kentucky bourbon distilleries. Lee Buckner, the owner of Travel the Trail, was at our house at the promised time to pick the six of us up. You pick the meeting spot, and he will be there to pick up your group. Lee had fresh coffee for us to refill our mugs with (mugs from our kitchen) for the ride to our first distillery, this was a welcome treat! The Travel the Trail van is a 15 passenger tall roof van so the six of us had plenty of room. No complaints about ride comfort! The van rides very smoothly. In addition to coffee, Lee also stocks a cooler of soft drinks and a tub of granola bars and other snacks on the van. All included in your tour price. You can bring your own cooler of adult beverages along if you wish also. The distilleries we chose to visit took us through horse country and we learned that Lee is quite knowledgable on horses as well as bourbon! He was sharing facts with us about horses and about the horse farms we drove past. The large windows in the van gave us a great view of it all. After two distillery tour stops we had lunch. Lee passed menus around in the van as we drove to our lunch spot. We chose our lunch spot on the morning of our tour based on Lee's suggestions. (The lunch stop is determined somewhat by the location of the distilleries you are visiting.) Once we arrived and placed our lunch orders Lee picked up the tab. It was very easy. When you mix great weather, beautiful Kentucky countryside and fantastic distillery properties with Travel the Trail to get you there you have the makings of a great day. Our entire group agreed the day spent on the bourbon trail was an awesome time! Lee is a great host and he made it to each stop on time (if not early) and safely. At the end of the day he dropped us off at my home. The whole process could not have been more simple. I highly recommend Travel the Trail and will probably book a future tour with them. I found Lee after a few phone calls to some tour companies in the area, and found him to be the most responsive, experienced and friendly of the bunch. I used Travel the Trail when I hosted a reunion in Louisville in Sept 2016. Most of the group had never been to Louisville before and I wanted to ensure it was a trip to remember. My Lee Buckner, owner and operator, did not disappoint. We did a bourbon tour on one day, travelled through scenic horse country. Lee Buckner knows those roads and is incredibly knowledgable on bourbon. Came to find out he is a certified executive bourbon steward.
