We have spent many meals in the past at this establishment. All of the other times were excellent. Unfortunately, today was a disappointing experience. We spent the day at the sporting clay range. We were celebrating a birthday and dropped off a cake to the Cafe to hold for us. We arrived at the cafe around 4:15 to eat dinner. We immediately placed our orders at the counter for appetizers and meals. We were given our drinks and went outside to sit. There was one other couple at the establishment. Our party had 9 people. Our orders ranged from cheese trays and pretzels for appetizers to sandwiches, pizza and salads. It was not long before the two orders of pretzels came out. However, it was quite a long time before one cheese tray came out. Then an extended time before food began to come out. Still no second cheese tray. (It actually never arrived) The other food came out very haphazardly and with no real explanation of why it wasn't delivered together. We didn't receive an appetizer or meal that was ordered. Finally we just had them remove those items and friends shared food. The staff seemed to disappear and not be available for an extended time. The food wasn't great. It honestly seemed like over priced cafeteria food. We were there far past what one would expect for a meal due to lack of service. Sadly, after having many years of great food and service, we were so disappointed, next time we go shoot, we will be sure to head back to town to eat. read more

It's been years since I've been to Elk Creek. With a pretty Saturday, my friends and I made the trek to the winery. Once we arrived, we were seated and socially distanced from others within the winery. Masks are required when you are away from your table. Their wine flights are kind of on a sliding scale. If you want to choose from all wines, tasting start at $24. The next level starts at $18. With each flight, you get to choose 5 wines. My favorites were the Riesling and the blackberry merlot. I ended up getting bottles of both to take home. We split the signature cheese board. I think the only thing we left were the dried cranberries. All the cheeses were delicious and it was nice to enjoy a day out. I would definitely return again. read more

Absolutely gorgeous building and property! The vineyard is high atop a hill in rural Owenton KY. Tried the dry flight of full bodied reds with one crisp pinot grigio, all unexpectedly tasty. The fabulous Ben Walz and his guitar provided a chill, super fun evening of entertainment. He played the songbook of our lives with mostly 70's soft rock, even taking requests. I would love to give 5 stars but we waited over 2 hours for our food. Go early, order your food with your wine flights and I'm sure you'll have a shorter wait! Elk Creek has a little something for anyone! If you like wine, you can take a tour and learn about the entire wine making process. There is also clay shooting, fishing, etc. The restaurant had great pizza and live music! There are also options for staying overnight. You can stay in the lodge, an Estate Room which is similar to hotel rooms, or rent the house. The lodge has a great entertainment area with a pool table and fire pit. I can't say enough about the sweet young lady that handles so much! She manages Check-In, breakfast in the lodge, and much more! read more

Exceptionally poor service. We were a group of six and our orders were lost. We finally received our food about one and a half hours after we ordered! I complained to Elk Creek and got this reply. Before you read it, you should know that two of their employees, said that our order was lost. This is a truly sad response. Hello again, As I mentioned earlier, we did not lose your tickets. I want to believe that you came in with the car club of over 50 people, but if that's not the case-we received an overwhelming amount of orders before yours. I apologize for your wait, as all of our lunch guests waited +/-45 minutes for their orders, but all meals are prepared in the order that they are received. After celebrating my birthday with a night in one of the Estate rooms in 2016, I joined the wine club and therefore pick up 3 bottles quarterly. Since I enjoy a glass of wine after work, I appreciate supporting a Kentucky Proud winery over an out of state winery! Lacey, Jessica and others in the tasting room provide good service and I appreciate doing business here. The wines can, and sometimes do, change with the seasons and I like some of the wines better than others! They have dinner specials and live music most weekends, and we have enjoyed a steak medallion dinner, as well as pizza. This is a review from November 2019. We stayed at the Lodge for a girls night. We had ended up not having water for most of the night. We had to leave around 7:30am due to not being able to shower, flush the toilet or brush our teeth. (We were told not to flush). The doors to the lodge (which is located on a shooting club) was told to stay unlocked while we stayed there. We felt we were rudely treated by staff when asked for any compensation. A bit of drive from northern Cincinnati. But well worth it. 4th of July afternoon, we didn't want to sit around the house, but didn't want to be out in the heat. Decided to give Elk Creek Vineyards a visit. Fine choice!! Very scenic drive once off the main road. Do NOT be in a hurry, road there is quite twisty and curvy. Matter of fact, you may want a designated driver afterwards. Or, check into reserving a room there since they have a lodge and a Bed & Breakfast and an Inn. We did not stay there but they looked very nice from what we could see. We took the tour of the facility. Not long, maybe 20-25 mins, but very interesting and informative. We also did the wine tasting package ,with 2 flights of 5 wines, a cheese and crackers platter, two glasses to take home and a Bottle of wine. Nice! We also stayed a bit longer and ate a late lunch. We had the Club sandwich, that was large enough to slit for two. And also had the Triple chocolate brownie. Warmed up, WOW! Nice finish to lunch! Great place for a day trip if you in Cincinnati or Louisville. It is quite a remote place (we lost the GPS signal multiple times on the way) but very much drivable. They have complimentary wine tours twice every day which you can book through their website. We missed ours as we lost the track of time. However, we went on to purchase a Chardonnay after trying a couple of options and it was great quality - so I believe wine tour shouldn't be missed. They have a beautiful vineyard at the back which is a great sight even on a cloudy day. Inside, there is plenty of seating options - inside as well as outside in open - and one can enjoy different types of wines and food. My friends won a free wine tasting and tour during a charity event that included 10 people. We were so excited but a little confused as to what the night entailed. Upon arrival the staff was not very friendly nor informative on what our tour included. We were seated for a little before tour guide let us through the bottling process and down to the cellar, the tour was a total of 15 minutes.. maybe a little less. Would not pay for this if it hadn't been free. After the tour we knew that we had a free wine tasting but the staff did not tell us what to do or where to go. We decided to sit back at our table and approximately 20 minutes later we got our wine tasting. The waiter quickly said the names of the 5 wines and let us be- didn't give any further description nor did she check up on us after, we had to go to the bar and ask if we had a waiter. We ordered a couple bottles of wine, cheese board and pizza. The wine and pizza were very good, but the cheese board was a disappointing. We did not stay the night, so rating this based on a daytime activity. A group of 4 came on Saturday with a Groupon in hand (note you can't use on Saturday, but they made an exception after our 90 min drive thankfully!!). The tour was wonderful, though a late frost ruined a lot of their grapes grown on site. There is a lot of information, the cellar is absolutely beautiful and our guide stopped to ask to take group pictures throughout - perfect! The tasting that came with the Groupon was lackluster (unless you like sweet wine), but I would love to try their smooth tasting for $12 that has big red wines. The Old Vine was wonderful and my favorite, but I want to try the Petite Syrah and other reds too. Sadly of the white and fruit wines on our included flight I only liked the Riesling and Vidal Blanc. The Groupon surprisingly let us take home 2 bottles (just pay tax) and 4 wine glasses (bought Groupon for 4), which was a nice surprise! I would go back for sure, probably for an overnight though given the drive and would not buy the wine tasting Groupon, rather try what I know I like! read more

This place is beautiful and so much fun. Enjoyed a glass of blackberry merlot which is my favorite. Then hit the tour which was interesting and our guide had a great sense of humor. This place is amazing. The wine is great, the food is wonderful, and management and staff are the best. They have done fabulous with reopening after Coronavirus, all tables and chairs are very well spaced out, all regulations and other legal requirements for being followed, and the place is impeccably clean. You definitely need to give this place a try. If you're not comfortable sitting inside, there is a beautiful Deck with tables and chairs that offers a great view. Such a beautiful vineyard! Only about an hour drive from Lexington, this vineyard is a great place for a date night or a simple weekend get away. It is smaller and not as elite as many of our bourbon distilleries are here in Kentucky, I believe for the local Wine vineyards around it is one of the best. They give tours every day at either 10 or 4. They last about 30 minutes. With the groupon we received a glass of wine while we took our tour. I tried the blackberry and my husband had the peach. Both were great if you like sweeter wines. If you like a dry wine I would not recommend it for you. The tour was ok. All in about one room, we did get to see the bottling step which was neat. The neatest place was in the cellar. Very beautiful and well designed. The overall landscape is very pretty. It looks like it would make a perfect venue for a wedding or any party. We did not see overnight rooms, but I am looking forward to checking those out in the future. We had a cheese plate and wine tasting of 5 wines. I would recommend the tasting as well as having lunch and/or there. It is quite, relaxing, and makes for a perfect little get away. read more

This vineyard is the perfect weekend getaway or night away with your significant other or girlfriends! It's located pretty far out and isn't really close to anything- but it's a darling winery and the wine is great and well priced! My husband and I went here for a night and stayed overnight in the lodge. The room was so cute, cozy and charming. The living room was so nice and there's a great patio off the back of the lodge. We spent the entire evening with several bottles of wine, making new friends and chatting in the living room! We went over to the tasting room for tastings and dinner. The deli is great with several delicious items. We had a chicken club sandwich and a cheese platter for dinner, which paired perfectly with wine tastings. The staff was very helpful and friendly and had some great recommendations. They also offer winery tours (we had to skip due to rain). Overall it was a super romantic and fun getaway. We were on our way home from Lexington and wanted to stop by. For the longest time, I've been wanting to visit Elk Creek Vineyards. I've tried their red wine a couple years back at the Cincinnati International Wine Festival and really enjoyed it. WOW! Entered the parking lot and the first thing you noticed is an open beautiful farm in front of the building and behind the building is the drop off of the vineyard. The bottom of the hill is where they have wedding events/events. What a gorgeous view! We entered the building and really loved the cozy rustic feel/decor. Very welcoming. There is a cafe, followed by the giftshop, bar, dining/lounging area, live music and 2nd floor is the gallery. They also have tours (we did not get to do it). My friend and I wanted to do the tasting. I did the $9.00 red wine tasting which you can choose 5 wines. This is what I tried: -Cabernet Sauvignon -Red Table Wine -2007 Petite Syrah -Bone Dry Red Cabernet -Estate Cabernet My personal favorites is the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Petite Syrah. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I had a wine passport and Elk Creek was my last destination. As my free gift, I got the stemless wine glass (their logo on the glass). I purchased the Cabernet Sauvignon for $26.99. I also had a groupon for $25.00. You receive two entrees at the cafe, two stem wine glasses, and a bottle of wine. I ordered the Insalata Caprisi $9.99- An array of fresh sliced roma tomatoes and mozzarella cheese, drizzled with aged balsamic vinaigrette and topped with fresh basicl chiffonade, served with toasted flat bread. And last- Chrardonnay Gourmet Grilled Cheese for $8.99 (for my husband) Layers of swiss, smoked gouda and havarti cheese with fresh basil and roma tomates on grilled flat bread. I got the meals to go and went to the bar and go my wine glasses and as my bottle the Kentucky Blue Riesling ($16.99). ALL the staff (cafe and bar) was very nice and super quick! Before I ordered the food, we enjoyed a glass a wine on their outdoor patio. You're view is the rolling hills of kentucky! Lovely view!! I had a great experience and would definately come back!! Went here a few days ago. Loved it! Love the country drive there...seeing the vineyards as you get close...and then the warm welcome upon entering. We ordered the Tuscan and Vineyard sandwiches. They came with chips or pasta salad and a pickle. We gave each other half our sandwich just to taste both. Both were SCRUMPTIOUS! We also taste tested a couple red wines...decided on the Concord. I wish this winery wasn't quite so far away. I would love to visit more frequently. If you are on the way to Cinci from Louisville- stop here! It is off the main highway about 30 minutes but it is such a beautiful spot! Elk Creek is situated on stunning grounds. The building for wine tastings is really pretty too. There is also a lodge so if you want to book a room- you can stay and enjoy the scenery. The wine is good though I think I enjoy the atmosphere most. The sweet whites are better than their reds for sure. The Cafe serves pizzas, sandwiches, cheese plates and salads. We had a lamb gyro that was tasty and a decent little personal pizza. The outdoor seating is so nice with great views to relax and sip wine. I recommend going for lunch, doing a tasting and walking around outside with a glass in hand! read more

The biggest winery in KY apparently! I am not so sure about that, but it was a charming place nonetheless. Very commercialized, I must say though. They had little knickknacks for sale, price tags everywhere etc etc. They have a winery, a shooting club, a club house and a massage studio! In the middle of nowhere (obviously :p) I came here for an office event. Started off a bit late with 4 wine tastings. Their pinot grigio was so good, but what was amazing was the blackberry Merlot. Sort of like a sweet desert wine, but not as full bodied as most other dessert wines. I loved that! I am going to order some online soon! :) So since we started a bit late with the wine tastings (paired with some cheddar, blue and gouda cheese, crackers and strawberries), out host decided to cut out the winery tour (even though we had paid for it!) And believe it or not, she really meant it as though doing us a favor there! I am not much of a wine tour person, but really, it would have been nice to see the lush green vineyards! Also, the actual owners were nowhere to be seen. I am used to the owners/ close workers to give a tour, making us feel at home and show the workings of the winery, but nothing here except the snooty little girl doing our wine tastings. She had absolutely NO insight to offer about the wines, except the name and year of the wine. We were then lead to dinner. The dining room was beautiful. Long, well furnished with typical cabin furniture and chock full of game birds (ugh) and I think there was a real bear skin stuck to one of the walls.. sigh! Typical KY stuff I am told! Anyways, the dinner was good, if not outstanding and the 3 girls serving us were pretty friendly and accommodating. Had fun at dinner actually! Given that I live in VA - King of Vineyards, I am not sure if I'd like to come here again. Not worth the money we spent here :( read more

We had an AMAZING time doing a free tour at the Elk Creek Winery :) Debbie was our tour guide and one of the wine makers happened to stop in. It was so much more informative, engaging, and interactive than expected. My boyfriend got to "thieve" one of the barrels in the cellar and we got to taste several wines that were in process. More than that, our tour guide was exceptionally kind and answered all unasked questions. She was so fun and we plan to come back when we visit Kentucky again! I prefer dry wines and my boyfriend likes sweeter wines. My favorites were the Merlot and Pinot Grigio. He liked the Blackberry Merlot and Bone Dry Red. We bought bottles of 3 of the 4. Also - their white blend - the Cayuga- really needs to be bottled. Holy smokes was that amazing! May have been my favorite! read more

Horrible wine, beautiful scenery. My title says it all. The staff was friendly, the views were amazing, but the wines were far from good. The only ones I could stomach were the sweet flavors like strawberry or pomegranate, everything else tasted like vinegar with food coloring. If I were to ever drink prison wine, I would expect it to taste like Elk Creek. Now the pastries, well they went perfectly with the wine, both were awful together. I gave this place a 2 star rating solely due to the ambiance. At the bottom of the hill upon which the clubhouse sits, my fiancé and I observed a couple being married. I thought to myself that this would make a perfect place for a wedding/reception, but only if you were to have it catered by a different company. That's this critic's review. So the hubs bought us a Groupon to stay at Elk Creek Vineyards for our anniversary which I was excited about. We drove in from Cincinnati where we stayed the night before, and got a little nervous. It was very off the beaten path with pretty much nothing around it so we were wondering what we were going to do after we got finished with the wine tasting. We got there at noon, and we went directly to the wine tasting since it said to check in around four. However, they were fabulous and had our room already ready. We went ahead and split a wine tasting ($5/5 tastes). The wines we tasted were pretty good, the watermelon was actually very nice. The sommelier that we had was semi-knowledgeable about their product...what they had left of it. They had apparently sold out of a lot of it the weekend before. After we were finished we drove to the room, which I will say was very nice. Updated, had a nice big flat screen TV. But it did have the one thing that I hate more than anything, which is a light switch to the bathroom OUTSIDE of the bathroom! But honestly, everything in the room was very nice looking. A free cheese and cracker plate came with our room, so we had to drive back to the winery (I wish they would have given us a golf cart at least so we didn't have to keep driving our car) to get that. It was yummy, some havarti, cheddar and blue cheese with two kinds of crackers, and we both got a glass of wine. Hubs had the blueberry and I had the blueberry Merlot, which was sweeter than I would have liked, but good. We asked when the tour was, and the sommelier said that she gives it and we'd have to wait for some water to be pumped out of somewhere which made me a little nervous. It was going to take about 40 minutes for the tour to be ready so we went back to the room to relax for a little while after our drive. When we got back, there were some people doing a tasting, and seeing as how the sommelier was the one who was supposed to be giving us a tour, there ended up not being one. Now I will say that it's probably mine and my husbands fault for the rest of the evening, but we're not ones to just sit around, and since there was nothing left to do (and no tour in the foreseeable future) we honestly just left to come home. Like I said, super nice room, pretty decent wine, we just don't like being bored (or shooting guns, as the only thing near the property was their gun range). read more

They are running out of wines! No joke. The establishment is wonderful, even a bit out of the way but worth the drive. However a "custody" battle is becoming an issue. Old owners and new potential owners are battling a sale right now that has created a grapes shortage. Wine is good. Food is too, but again the lack of engaged ownership is impacting orders and the like for the kitchen too. The site and location are truly beautiful. I'd had to lose this gem and am hoping the sale goes through and that new owner takes a great deal of pride in this business. read more

The up side - We went for the Valentine's Day Dinner on February 10th. Made reservations for 6pm. We had the Surf and Turf dinner for two. The food was excellent, lots of flavor. We had the best Shrimp scampi dip ever. There was also music-Taylor Henry, he was wonderful. Now the down side. Our table was patio furniture brought in from outside I think, we were also seated back by the restroom entrance not up toward the front half where the rest of the tables were set up. We will try again, hoping for a better experience. read more

Our little staycation at Elk Creek completely went beyond my expectations. From the cabin to live the music to the special decorative touches throughout the vineyard, everything was high quality. The passion our tour guide had was infectious as he explained what made their winery different from most in the area. We were afraid the wine was going to be too sweet since they website boasts a lot of fruit varieties, but they also had a handful of white and reds that were enjoyable and inspired by the owners' California roots. Our stay at the Lodge was quite comfortable, too. The cabin was large, as was our room that overlooked the lake and rolling hills. If you rented out the entire space, it'd be perfect for a family or special event. Quick tips: 1) If you stay overnight, bring your own food/snacks as their menu is limited. 2) Take your tasting outside, the view is gorgeous! 3) The website says the tours start at 3:50, when in fact it was 3:30. Be sure to double check! Being only an hour from Louisville, you certainly should check out this place for a day trip or overnight stay. Not to mention, the drive was beautiful! read more

I don't normally write reviews, but this is one of my favorite places to drive to from Lexington. Great patio and view of the countryside - a great place to enjoy some wine and food. The food is good, not great (they used to have a more extensive menu that I thought was better). Fantastic homemade cheesecake. The wine is okay for Regional wine, they have a nice little tour also. Check for live music on weekends. If you take 227 North from Lexington, it is a great driving road with perfect curves (this is the main reason I go, but you need a good car to enjoy the drive). read more

What a fun little night-away spot for you and a loved one! I saw an ad on Cincy Savers for Elk Creek lodging so I checked out the website for more details. This vineyard has 3 places you can stay on the property, as well as tours, a shooting club, a cafe, and free continental breakfast. I thought it would be fun to try out! Our Cincy Savers deal was for Sunday-Thursday so we went on a Sunday night. When I called, I spoke to Vickie-she is pleasant and helpful! I chose an Estate Room. There is also a house with 3 rooms, but we didn't know the other couple in it. I also got on Groupon and ordered a Winery special-5 wine samples, a cheese plate, 2 wine glasses and a bottle of wine to take home. I highly recommend this! When we got to the property in Kentucky (after many many miles of curvy roads and lost our GOS signal several times), check in was easy and our room key was a wine opener! Clever! We stayed in Room 6, which overlooks the property. Ask for rooms 4-6 to get the best view if you choose the Estates. Our room was quaint- the bed was very comfortable, the room had a fridge, the shower was huge, we had wine glasses available to use and the temp of the room was nice and cool. Right outside our door, there was a pop machine and free ice! When we took the Vineyard tour, we did have to get back in the car. The locations aren't far from each other but there were no walking paths. The tour took less than a half hour and it was free. Our tour guide was nice but she didn't really know the answers to questions that folks asked. When the tour was over, we used our Groupon to try some of the fun wines. Sonya Lee was our server and she was super nice and helpful. My favorite was the Reisling and Sweet Apple wines so we took those to go! Since it was Sunday, the cafe was offering sandwiches and not much more so we went into town for dinner. It looks like there are dinner specials on other days though so just ask if you aren't sure. Breakfast was free the next morning, back at the check-in lodge. I was surprised at how good the food was! I had eggs and sausage with a huge danish roll! There were assorted pastries, coffee, juice and milk. We sat at a table that overlooked the water and vineyards. It was so relaxing! This place is definitely worth a visit. The peacefulness just took over and I was really relaxed while being there. I would go back, even with friends! Check it out!! read more

Wow! What a wasted opportunity to have a beautiful restaurant with edible food. They are running the place like a summer camp with a self service cantina. . Crappy menu, NO service, dirty tables. And expensive. 48 dollars for two subpar sandwiches and 2 tiny 4 oz glasses of wine.It is a gorgeous facility with tons of potential. Makes one wonder if it isn't a money laundering operation. Lol. Don't see how they stay in business. Beautiful facility though. I wish that I could buy it and turn it into a real destination. It has French Laundry potential. Just needs real vision. read more

Great little gem of a place. Great draft beer & wine selection in a beautiful country setting.

This is the largest Vineyard in Kentucky and it's truly a beautiful place see. We took a tour that was free and it was very informative. We have been a few times and have made friend with some of the employees. Everyone that work there are great people! They have live bands on Saturday nights. They also have some awesome food and beer to select from. Their wine is award winning as well. We can go and spend an entire day here sitting on the back porch drinking some great wine and food and enjoy ourselves with a few friends. Admittedly, I'm not a big wine drinker. But for Christmas last year, my wife, Jennifer, got us an overnight stay at Elk Creek Vineyards in Owenton, Kentucky. Obviously, I'd never heard of Elk Creek, but boy did this turn out to be an awesome gift! We took a tour to see how their wines are made; we had a delicious dinner (prime rib, baked potato, asparagus and a salad for me. Fried fish, Mac and Cheese, baked beans; and a salad for Jennifer); and we stayed at their Inn. Elk Creek can also be used for wine tastings, weddings, concerts and other special events. Enjoy a glass of wine or a bottle of beer and savor items from our cafe. Relax next to our three-story stone hearth and enjoy true Southern hospitality. Elk Creek is Kentucky's largest winery. It has over 20 varieties of wine and has a restaurant that offers gourmet soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees, desserts and probably more that I'm not aware of. They also have 2 FREE winery tours each day; a gift shop; as well as live music and dinner specials on Fridays and Saturdays.
