Avocado & Mango soaps from South Africa

If you like Bath & Body shops - you will GO CRAZY in Rain! This place is a "pamper yourself silly" place for bath and beauty junkies like me. All of their products are made in South Africa and boast an original and unique look, smell and feel. There are raw ingredients, salts and exotic oils for the skin and hair that are pure in content and astonishingly reasonable in price. They even have ground mustard seed which is great as a cellulite scrub and detox soak. The owner and her staff are refreshingly helpful and kind. We had a blast shopping, smelling, scrubbing and trying all the lotions and potions in this store - and left with shopping bags of treasures! Don't leave without smelling their essential oils. Their Vanilla blows the roof of other vanillas I have tried - even ones for HUNDREDS of dollars. Rain's vanilla is under $20 bucks!

The perfect robe for my mother, long and zippered, but not matronly looking.

Beautiful products, exceptional service. In January I was walking past this store in Rockefeller Center and saw the most beautiful bathrobe in the window. My mom loves a long zippered bathrobe and most of them are so matronly and inelegant. I took cell phone pic and squirreled the idea away for Mother's Day. Here's a picture of it that I put on facebook. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/538751_10150834062153667_706673666_9916874_776395296_n.jpg When the day was getting close I called the store. I asked if they could ship from the store (housebound that week with a very sick husband) and they said they'd be happy to. I didn't see this service offered on their company website so I was pleasantly surprised. Then Simon, who was helping me, told me they only had large robes available. Their only medium had a little dirt on the back hem. I asked if he'd give me a discount and he gave me 20% off. Now you have to realize he could have just stuck the Medium in a box and mailed it knowing I would never see it and gambling that the mom in Oklahoma wasn't the grumbling type but he was totally honest as well as totally helpful. I have to add that this integrity seems to be a part of their business model which includes fair trade, fair wages, community involvement and natural ingredients. http://rainafrica.com/ethics/ But honestly, it was just how beautiful the robe was (and probably how nice the store smelled) that got me through the door. My mom called me when she got the robe. She just loves it.

One of the displays with soaps. Smells good.

Here's what I've experienced at this practice and why I recommend it so wholeheartedly: - I first came to Dr. Holder's practice in 2023, wanting to try botox for the first time. It was a new experience, and Dr. Holder listened carefully to understand my expectations and then patiently talked me through everything that I should expect. The way she directs her team before, during, and after procedures instills so much confidence, especially for first time patients. - At the beginning of this year, hormones were wreaking havoc on my skin and giving me with terrible acne and rosacea. Fed up, I sent Dr. Holder's office an email, and they agreed to see me right away. They were so responsive and reassuring. Also, I really appreciate that Dr. Holder doesn't try to sell a custom line of products -- she just thoughtfully directs you to a routine using good old fashioned French pharmacy products and prescriptions when needed. - I've seen Dr. Holder for peels and laser treatments, and I'm just so grateful for how thorough and detail-oriented she is in each of these procedures. She takes prep and after care very seriously. She looks closely at the treatment areas, takes her time, and talks through the treatment so that there are no surprises or unexpected discomfort. Truly amazing bedside manner that instills so much confidence. - Dr. Holder's team is just as amazing as she is. All of the staff are communicative, warm, and hospitable. They're also incredibly smart, detail-oriented, and thoughtful during procedures -- hardly a surprise, but such a rare experience in this city. Since I started seeing Dr. Holder, my skin is noticeably brighter, my complexion is more even, and for the first time in my life, I feel like I have some control over my skin sensitivities. I'm so glad I found this practice, and I hope Dr. Holder never retires!

She has that kind of effortless confidence that only comes from decades of experience. Her cuts are consistently flattering and polished, and the highlights and lowlights she recently gave me were gorgeous. I walked out of the salon feeling proud to be 51 and like a million bucks. Stella is just as wonderful. She's done my brows, pedicures, and the occasional facial. I love that the nail services are done in a private back room. It's calm and quiet and allows me to relax. She's also just a joy to chat with. That said, Angela and Stella are part of a whole team of talented, hardworking stylists. The vibe in the salon is friendly, collaborative, and always buzzing. The space is small but full of energy, and it feels like a true community hub--with clients of all ages coming in for cuts, color, keratin treatments, brows, facials, nails, and more. It's worth noting they only accept cash or personal checks, so come prepared. But you'll be well taken care of once you're in the chair. Smart Hair Studio is warm, skilled, and refreshingly unpretentious--everything a neighborhood salon should be.

I've seen co-owner Tanya for precision cuts and expert, organic, amonia-free color (the richest, shinest browns), co-owner Angela for Cezanne keratin (the only keratin that has ever worked for me and lasts 6+ months), and stylist Esther for impeccable cuts. The prices are a steal compared to other salons in the city and neighboring competitors. Each stylist seems to know intuitively just what my hair needs, and I leave with a literal weight off my shoulders and a style that lasts for days every time.
