I saw this store when I was walking by and had to stop to check it out! They have everything Japanese you could need. From cosmetics, hair care, snacks, premade food, pantry items, frozen foods, drinks, condiments, house items, kitchen wear and so much more! Endless isles of Japanese goods, they had so much variety and options too. I probably spent an hour walking around to check out the whole store. Yamadaya is a fun store to shop at. Located on Sixth Avenue near Citarella and next door to the Empire Cake store, it's relatively easy to find. When I visited this week, it was fully stocked with all kinds of products and specialty items from Japan. If you can think of it, they probably have it. In the back of the store there's a section with cookware, plates and glasses - including the soup bowls with lids. I had to look up why they use lids - for heat retention and to release the aroma when you remove the lid. Some more highlights included : a nice selection of instant bubble tea boba kits, hello kitty beauty items, frozen dumplings, produce, ramen noodles, hair clips and supplies and even beer/ alcohol. The store is well organized, most items were easy to find; the prices were typical for Manhattan. Very convenient and clean. Given the limited space, they got a lot packed into it. And even though it's a Japanese grocery, I don't expect everything to be made in Japan; some items are likely there for customer convenience. read more

As many have mentioned there is a large variety of snacks and candy, as well as cooking sauces, condiments, kitchen ware and home goods, stationary, and knick knacks. They have a decent selection of dried foods and noodles and some takeaway food items but I'd say for produce and fresh/frozen food items Dainobu has a stronger selection. Yamadaya stands out in the amount of housewares, bathroom, skincare and beauty products they carry which are pretty extensive. I can see myself coming here to get some specialty Japanese brands not easily available in other smaller Japanese stores or Asian supermarkets. Another Japanese grocery store to add to my list of regular shopping locations. It's a big space too. They have all the basics: Pocky, Kit Kats, soba noodles and Kewpie mayonnaise. Plus they have a good selection of drugstore cosmetics and housewares from Japan. It's conveniently located close to the West 4th street subway station on 6th Avenue. This is a new massive brightly lit Japanese store. I originally thought it was Dainobu but then I realized it was a bit further south and it was way brighter/a lot more massive and the sign confirmed. They have a bigger selection of beauty care products by comparison. Can't remember the prices of the groceries by comparison outside of being similar and there being more of them though their prepared food selection is a lot smaller which is expected with Mi-Ne existing next door. Nice new Japanese store. I think the prices are slightly better a block away but both are good stores with fantastic selections (and at least you aren't climbing over people here.) I discovered this Japanese specialty shop selling everything from: Snacks, sweets, tea, sauces, frozen food, beauty products, containers, knick knacks, and many other things, by a happy accident. I needed to walk in the opposite direction than I normally do after work and this place was only a couple of blocks away. I went when it was the soft opening, so everything was 10% off! The store is beautifully laid out with a very modern and clean look. There are so many amazing choices especially for food and beauty items. I immediately looked for and grabbed Senka Perfect Whip Collagen In facial wash, which is difficult to find elsewhere. I also picked up shrimp chips, ginger tea, frozen pork and chicken gyoza, and a special mocha iced dessert. The staff was wonderful. They were really helpful with answering any questions I had and finding what I was looking for. At check out, I was given free leggings and I chose the red colored one. Prices are very reasonable even without a discount. I didn't go too crazy with purchases on my first visit, but now that I know it's right by my workplace, I can return anytime. read more

Definitely the best and largest Japanese market in Manhattan that I've been to! Village Yokocho is runner-up, and has its own charm (in non COVID times) for its secluded, tiny 2nd floor location. Love the fruit juice packet options, selection of instant ramen, and self-heating facemasks. Pretty good sweet options, including my favorite subtle Nagasaki honey cakes. One star off for their decision to stop carrying the artisan onigiri flavors that they had at opening! Management, I hope you're reading this so you can reverse course! This was such a nice find in the middle of NYC. I came in for some snacks to take with me on the train when I was on my way back to Virginia.
