The restaurant has been here since the 60's. Friendly southern hospitality is what you will find here. I have enjoyed meals here since I moved here in 2005. It is not Wolfgang Puck's, but the food here is very good. The interior needs a rehab, but overlook that and you have a family-oriented place that appears to care about customers. The clientele looks like regulars who appreciate a good meal at a fair price. Our burgers were outstanding with fresh meat, crispy lettuce and tasty pickles. I had a salad from the salad bar. We have wanted to try this place out for a year or so & finally made it before 3pm when they close. The place might not look appealing passing by but I love a good diner. You go in & is a diner with a decent menu. I had a club togo that was good but then found out they have a buffet. Home cooking is my weakness & thats exactly what you get. A good salad bar. Then you have the hot bar buffet which is different every day but they have fried chicken on it everyday. It has become a weekly lunch thing now for my boyfriend and I. We have been on Tuesday which was the normal mashed potatoes, corn, green beans & friend chicken but a nacho bar too. We went on a Thursday and it was Salisbury steak and today Wednesday they had meatloaf. I hear on friday its fish, shrimp & another seafood item then Saturday or Sunday pot roast so you know Im coming back for that. They also have corn bread & rolls everytime. A soup of the day as well as a dessert (todays was peach cobbler) & a soft serve ice-cream machine. In the picture the buffet looks small but we leave there full and satisatisfied. Today was the first day we didnt have the waitress we usually get because she was in the back cooking but she took a break and came to say hi. The service, food, price and overall experience was great and you can always give them a call to see whats on their buffet for the day. Rainbow Restaurant is a smaller, unassuming little spot on highway 50 in Mascotte. It doesn't look like much from the outside and the interior is a bit dated and average, but don't let that dissuade you from giving them a try! We stopped in on a Sunday for lunch. They had a lunch buffet option which was cool, but we all just opted to order off of the menu. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I chose to try the Swiss chicken with a side of mashed potatoes and chicken noodle soup. My boyfriend ordered chicken fried steak as did another member of our party, and my other friend ordered a beef sandwich and added a side salad. The meals came out pretty quickly. Portions were generous right down to my friend's side salad which was a lot larger than many spots. My chicken was well prepared and flavorful, the soup was a creamy style chicken and noodle and was good, and the mashed potatoes were particularly yummy. They had a great peppery flavor on their own and the addition of the white gravy made them even better. I snagged a bite of my boyfriend's country fried steak and it was also really good. I could totally just drink the gravy and be happy haha. Overall, we honestly weren't expecting a lot and I had been here once a long time ago and wasn't impressed, but I'm glad we gave them another shot because it ended up being a really good meal! The service and food here is amazing! I had the lunch buffet and my husband had an Omelet. We both were extremely satisfied! The coffee was fresh and super hot like I like. They have soft ice cream in the machine for the amazing cobbler on the buffet. The restroom was clean and whatever else good I can say about this place I'll say it! 2-Stars for a "meh" experience for my fiance, mom and I for lunch as we drove through Mascotte, Florida after picking blackberries in a nearby town. Now, I blame myself for this experience as I wanted to patron a small business while my mom and fiance were championing for one of the many chain restaurants we passed. Located on the end of a small, dilapidated plaza on one of the main roads in Mascotte, Rainbow Restaurant and Catering is very unassuming and looks like it hasn't been revamped since the 1980's. There are two very distinct dining areas - a room with hard, Waffle House like booths and then a room with round tables and chairs. They apparently had a buffet option prior to the COVID-19 pandemic (as evidenced by the empty buffet tables and mention of a buffet on the menu). The bathrooms were pretty dirty and there were pest control traps in the corner of each of them. Also, as we got up to leave after eating, there was a tuft of black hair we had to step over (I'm assuming that someone recently got a hair cut from the barbershop next door...but still, not something you want to see in a restaurant). We each ordered a type of sandwich: me a turkey club, my mom a fish sandwich and my fiance a bacon cheeseburger. My turkey club was pretty bland and the side order of fries were nothing special. My mom wasn't even sure what type of fish that her fish sandwich was made of and the sweet potato fries that she was most looking forward to were burned (all of them, not just a few). My fiance said it best when he commented on his bacon cheeseburger: "It's a typical work picnic burger." We left feeling underwhelmed (and disgusted after seeing the chunk of hair on the floor) and I'm temporarily banned for suggesting restaurants.... read more

We recently went there for breakfast. The place is very old, like they never updated anything (booths, paneling, broken vertical blinds...) but it is clean. Service was decent and server was good but not real friendly. The food was not great. My husband and I ordered eggs and how the heck do you mess up eggs? They were overcooked and brown and crunchy. Hash browns were hard and tasteless. Biscuits tasted like frozen ones from store. I do have to say the donuts were very good! I would only go back again for their donuts. read more

Went to the Rainbow Restaurant today. They had a hot buffet with taco salad fixings and fried chicken. The fried chicken was probably better than KFC or anyone else's. There was corn and mashed potatoes and gravy and fluffy rice and kidney beans. The cobbler was da bomb!!! I was there for 45 mins, server was bright witty energetic and super nice. I ordered 2 of the steak and eggs breakfast. This was our first time eating from this restaurant and boy, was it disappointing. The steaks didn't taste seasoned whatsoever, they were dry and hard on the outside, and irony tasting. And, more than half of the steak was made up of fat. The inedible kind of fat. For almost $40, I expected more. More quality and flavor. If I did eat here again, I'd at least try something different and would be willing to change the stars on my review. We were looking for a place to meet halfway between where we were staying and where our friends were staying. Rainbow Restaurant was right in the middle. We knew it was a small diner and we crossed our fingers that it would be good. It was excellent. Our server was friendly and very efficient. The food was excellent. We even had to try to dessert. Between us we ordered a cheese omelet, tuna melt and hamburger. All I have to say is excellent for this little diner in a small strip mall. Great truck stop food. I had the buffet because it looked really good and as it turned out I was right for the most part. The soup was out of this world. The salad bar was nice with just enough on it that there was not too much!! The hot food was great and HOT!!! Mashed taters homemade just like I like them. The waitress was nice. A little reserved but nice. My only complaint is the BBQ ribs and Chicken were good but on the dry side. For what I paid it was a bargain. Only 6.99 !!!! read more

Had a nice dinner with 2 sides for under 9 bucks that was good. They had added sweet potato fries since last time I was there so purchased an order of them and once Home found I received 13 mostly shorty fries for just under 4 bucks lesson learned don't buy extra sides unless you have to have them. Since It was take out had to toast the fries when I got home ( best I ever had) was once double charged for salad bar as I had foot surgery and had husband get it for me. Even after we explained They gave us check and never came back was not worth hassle didn't leave tip I'm a great tipper they would have made more. I get the appeal of a local joint with great food. I have visited many. I prefer giving my dollar to a mom and pop place over a Denny's any day. With that said, as far as small town dining establishments go this is at the bottom of my list. The service was great, the ambiance was charming and about what you would expect from a place like this, however the food left much to be desired. Good service and a down home feel only get you so far. I wanted this place to be so much better than it was. I love to dine at places such as this, but the Rainbow restaurant lacked so much in food quality I don't think I could or would go back. Sausage gravy was more like Campbell's cream of chicken soup, made with corn starch instead of flour. . Server never came around and asked if we wanted refills on our coffee. When I asked if we could have refills, more cream and butter, she said yes ma'am. 15 minutes later I had to ask again and she said yes ma'am again. 5 minutes later I asked if they were short handed and she stated no ma'am, they always only have two servers. Five of us were on a little adventure across the state taking backroads and decided to look for a local diner or cafe for lunch. We decided on Rainbow and we were not disappointed! The place was easy to find and there was a nice big sign out front. There were plenty of tables and a lot of elbow room. The food was freshly made and delicious. My roast beef melt had tender pot roast, plenty of fresh peppers, onions and mushrooms and covered with gooey mozzarella. The BLT has plenty of crisp bacon, the chicken fried steak was nicely done and the tuna salad sandwich was nice and simple. My granddaughter's Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. The homemade potato chips were outstanding and the tater tots were the crispiest I've ever had, but tender in the middle. The service was friendly and nicely paced and the other customers ran from families to working cowboys. The prices were incredible for the quality and quantity. My husband and I have been here a couple of times years ago and found it decent but we went last week while passing through and were disgusted. We tried the breakfast buffet without looking at it first ...bad idea!!! It was so disgusting and cold. Every bite I tried to force in my mouth was rejected!! I did manage to swallow one piece of bacon and then ordered a scrambled egg. The egg was ok I was able to eat half of it. The place seemed busy with locals so maybe they knew something we didn't ...DO NOT GET THE BREAKFAST BUFFET!!
