At the absolute very least, you need to eat here once just to appreciate the historic charm and eclectic interior design. In other words, it's really cool inside. The one star is for nothing. They have always been disorganized but this takes the cake. Got there early as it was valentines. Too bad they ran out of prime rib at 6:30pm. Seriously, don't advertise if you're not prepared. 3-3 tops walked out at the same time. 30 minutes and still no service. This may be the last time. Very disappointed as we change our reservation for Red Wing and cancelled the other reservation. Guess we will go to White Castle. Hopefully they won't run out of those little burgers. After a day at Lakeridge Winery we stopped at Red Wing knowing we would have left overs for dinner. We started with the gator nuggets, I won't ruin the surprise but I will say order the gator. The meal came with a salad and I have to believe the blue cheese dressing was homemade. I did the steak tips cooked rare which makes heating up my leftovers easier the garlic mashed potatoes are the real deal. Hubby order the crab stuffed salmon which came seasoned veggies, everything was delicious last night and tonight, but wait there's more. Ms Betty was in the house and she told a few stories but when she mentioned the orange cake her voice changed, I can confirm I have never had such a yummy treat. Our Angus burger was delicious, the fries were hot and so was the tomato bisque. All in all, we enjoyed our meal and will be back. It was nice and warm inside. This is definitely a local historic dining restaurant. Servers know the regulars, what they eat and drink. Newbies stand out but don't worry, one visit and the staff gets to know you. On this Saturday in June 2024, we stopped by for what we thought as an early dinner. The place was hopping and saw only 2 servers with plenty of kitchen help. Food is fresh and they have daily specials too. On this day Tomato was the soup of the day, prime rib was available in 3 sizes, Jack, Queen, and King. Excellent prices too. Note: No horseradish available for the prime rib. Service is Southern slow to the point that our salad came out with our dinners. The wine is available by the glass or bottle. The glass is $8 with a full pour. Nothing fancy but it went great with our meals. There are some local beers too. Didn't see any other bar options. Plenty of ice tea and lemonade too. The menu list chicken, steak, pork, and exotic meats, which included gator, quail, catfish, frog to name a few. Entrees come with soup or house salad, vegetables, and a choice of mashed potatoes, baked potato, or white rice. For $1.50 more you can upgrade the salad to a Caesar. The baked potato comes with butter and sour cream, if you ask for it. I went with the Maple Pecan boneless pork chops which were delicious and had the grill markings. Perfectly cooked. Only negative was the plate was drowning in water from the vegetables melody of zucchini, squash, and carrots. Shame, because it diluted the maple pecan flavor of the chops. The potato was perfectly cooked. My husband went with the prime rib and said it was delicious. He still had leftovers because even the Jack was a full plate. Our server informed us the Apple Cobbler had been made an hour ago and was a good dessert. We took it to go, because honestly neither of us could eat another bite. This is a working farm and animals are seen roaming in the back fenced area. Signs are posted too not to feed the animals. The restaurant is kid friendly and the menu does include kid size meals. The decor is very rustic and game prizes hang throughout. The bathroom really needs a complete makeover for it really is nasty. The booths need to be reupholstered, and seem to add to the rustic feel. Overall, the food was good, the service bearable, the prices excellent ,and worth the experience. read more

Been here several times over the years and the food and service have always been up to par. We were there most recently for lunch on a Saturday and were surprised by the availability of 7 or 8 specials plus the regular menu. The only downside for our party in their 70's and 80's who have become accustomed to "comfort height" toilets was that the rest rooms had lower toilets. While the men's room has a bar which helped getting up, the lady's room did not. read more

You can't beat this type of wild game food anywhere near here. Yes, the prices can get high if you don't watch yourself, but we already knew that. The ambiance is quaint and even though the staff is stretched thin, the service is much faster than they tell you. Kimberly was on point and even the extras that were missing were brought to the table with speed. The salads were brought out fresh and the appetizers were timed perfectly. There is only beer and wine, but it doesn't matter as you're already digging into the fresh in house eats. The veggies would be better grilled, but you don't even pay attention. The steak was mostly cooked perfectly. Some could have been cooked a bit longer, but we were the last table of the night. The kids tried the quail and frog legs and said they loved it so much. Gator bites and fried pickles; fantastic. The sauces are made fresh in house. Even the tea impressed the kids. One of the few places that still serve amber bock too. The quail was seasoned perfectly. Love this spot! Old school hunting lodge with trophies. You can imagine the stories told here as it's the same for decades which, to me, gives Red Wing it's charm. We came here after a few of my wife's coworkers mentioned eating here. It was a little early and the rain was coming down and a severe thunderstorm warning was in effect, so we were the only ones in the restaurant for a while. The server was exceedingly attentive, even with the couple of requests we had. As we were finishing up, more people started to show up. The decor is pretty unique. Gaston would approve of all of the antlers. The fried pickles were awesome and buffalo chicken mac n cheese was great. The meat n potato soup was a bit heavy and bland, though. My wife had the catfish and enjoyed it. We finished off with the apple cobbler. That was delicious, too. Since the rain died down, we went by the animals adjacent to the parking lot. I'd heard about this place for years, finally had an opportunity to go. Walking in I felt like it had been years since anyone did any updating - and my heart sank. BUT - the food was good. It was very good. Not complicated - a prime rib sandwich with onion rings and a fish sandwich with chips. But cooked perfectly and as ordered. And sadly, that isn't common. They have a variety of "all you can eat" options that change on a daily basis, but I opted for the grilled chicken early bird special. The chicken cam with a garden salad, steamed veggies, and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were AMAZING! I couldn't stop eating. My guy ordered the fried haddock early special and it was fantastic too. For dessert, we split the molten chocolate cake with ice cream. Again, it was AMAZING! Words can't even describe how good all of the food was. Even if you're not in the area, you have to eat here. Two couples stopped here on a Thursday night which is supposedly burger night, and they also had 5 choices for early bird night , which included salad, buns, potato and entry. Well, there were only two servers who were way overworked, since the place was full and continued to be full of customers while we were there from 7:10 until 8:30 pm. On burger night, you can't get a regular burger, just their special burger. One of us ordered the burger and it came out fine. The other three ordered their specials, pork chop, beef tips and the third ordered liver. The salads were good, pork chop was juicy and cooked well, beef tips were a bit tough, but cooked medium rare, . The liver was waaaay over done to the point of being tough and stringy and the gravy was way too dark and tasteless. We may try again, but not too soon. read more
