They keep their technology updated and allow outside clubs to have reasonable access to the fields after hours. I'm not giving it 5 stars for two reasons: 1. It could be better. The registration, administration, policies, and procedures are all good and fair, but the public / government rules will keep it from being great. 2. The principal wasn't very "there for you" (I heard she was replaced last year). Any meetings with the principal weren't there to address matters with the children, she was there to protect the school first, then the children.

Warning for Asian Parents regarding Alderwood Elementary School. If you are an Asian family…read moreconsidering Alderwood Elementary, please be warned that if your child faces racial harassment, the current administration may prioritize making excuses for the bullies over protecting your child's safety and civil rights. My son just graduated 6th grade from Alderwood Elementary today. While we are happy to move on, I feel a deep responsibility to warn other Asian families in Irvine about how this school handles anti-Asian racism and physical bullying. On May 20, 2026, my son was physically pushed around and called a severe, explicit anti-Asian racial slur ("Ching Chong") by a classmate. We immediately reported this physical and verbal assault to Principal. The response from the school administration was shocking. The assistant principal explicitly excused the behavior, telling us that the student and her parents "didn't know" that using that racial slur against Asian people was wrong. Furthermore, after speaking with other Asian parents at the school, we discovered this same student has targeted multiple other Asian children with the exact same slur, proving a documented pattern of harassment. Instead of enforcing the school's strict anti-bullying and anti-discrimination policies, the administration chose to minimize a civil rights issue and sweep it under the rug. PS: If you are about to send your children to Alderwood Elementary School, please make sure to ask the school office and the principal exactly how they plan to protect your kids from racism and bullying. If your child has experienced bullying or harassment at Alderwood Elementary, please share your story on Yelp, Niche, and GreatSchools.org. I have already posted my reviews everywhere. My voice alone might not be strong enough to get the attention of the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD), so I need your help. As a community of people of color in the City of Irvine, we need to stand together to protect our kids.

During our years here we were told stories from other parents about unethical practices by the principal Alan Battenfield, everything from him being racist, sexist and abusing his powers. I was not quick to judge since I had no personal interactions with him. I would also say that 9/10 students have an unfavorable opinion of him, but hey these are children. However at the start of the 2022 school year I would come to have my first interaction with the principal and school office assistant Veronica Escalante. Both of which would show their true colors and prove the level of corruption at the school as reported by other parents to be true. To learn more about my family's personal story in how unethical school administrators are at Woodbury as well as the school districts findings investigating my claim against the principal and office assistant, please see my petition on change.org https://www.change.org/WoodburyIrvine Bringing awareness to the systemic level of corruption in school leadership at Woodbury Elementary School in the irvine unified school district. If something like this could happen to us, it can happen to anyone, for any reason, just to perpetuate their narrative.

Teachers, administration and staff are always helpful and interested in a very caring way about how the children are doing. Parents are a huge help always volunteering and trying to make the school better through the PTA or the School Foundation which is different from the district set foundation. The structure is new, clean, and the school receives so many donations that it can offer many extras such as chrome books and computers in every section of the school. But you do need to be aware of the layer underneath the facade. I am not saying that Vista Verde is a bad school, but I am saying that you need to be aware of the type of parents that are at the school and the atmosphere. Many of the children tend to be rather spoiled. I am not sure if that is the reason why certain staff - including the current Assistant Principal - feel compelled to have zero tolerance for normal age appropriate child behavior, such as rough playing etc. Zero tolerance means that routinely, almost on a daily basis, you will find children - mind you young children ages 6, 7, and 8, sitting in the front office, being punished for normal play which the administration considers inappropriate. (because they are scared of parents? I do not know). Not only are they missing recess, but receive a paper to fill out with many points to write about what good playground behavior would be. Further, sometimes methods of shame are used by giving the child a clipboard to run around during recess and write many - in one case 24! - sentences of what constitutes good playground behavior. These seem methods used many decades ago and they humiliate a child. When asked the recess supervisor said that they want to "scare them just a little bit from early on" so that they don't play rough when they get to middle school. We translate that as meaning that they systematically break a child's spirit and ensure that the child follows their rules like a robot - with zero tolerance as stated by one teacher. I am not sure if this atmosphere has started with the new Assistant Principal and Principal or if this practice has always taken place with many parents simply not knowing what is going on. That being said, I am aware of some parents who have noticed or experienced the above mentioned and are leaving the school - we are also leaving. I suppose the moral we will be taking with us is that not everything that seems glistening is truly as shiny as it looks.

Small class sizes and leveled learning have enabled my child to gain confidence in her learning abilities. Though it is a small and newer school, it allows for a lower student to teacher ratio, giving our kindergartener more confidence when asking questions, engage in group activities, and opportunities for one-on-one time with the teachers. She absolutely LOVES Fairmont! The administration is open minded and think outside the box to make a successful educational experience for the students and parents. Fairmont is committed to the whole child. They teach value lessons, character building, communication and leadership skills. We've seen tremendous growth in from beginning of the school year to end. The teachers are passionate about seeing their students succeed. They are so great about sharing moments of pride they see within your child - their good behaviors and achievements; and they know the importance of getting the parents involved should an issue arise, and do it in a very respectful, approachable manner. Great team - great school!

Previously they…read morewere enrolled in school @ cordillera elem school which was excellent compared to this school. Three of my kids attended school here - kinder, 2nd and 5th. My youngest sons teacher was absolutely awesome and the sweetest. My two older kids, their teachers were Miss. ROSEBOROUGH (2nd grade), Miss. KING (5th grade). Note those names - they should step down from their "teaching" positions. My son was physically choked at the park by the kids that live around here (oak creek). He was then scolded by the principal for going to the park by the school and was told if he did it again he would be in big trouble. Then my husband and I find out (this is in the midst of being in the middle of a pregnancy) that Miss. Roseborough, Miss. King and the counselor had called SOCIAL SERVICES on us because they decided to side with their judgmental agenda and report a totally innocent family without responding to my reply first while siding with the kids that were threatening to beat my child. But I guess seniority rules at this school. Not to mention, this was right after I had personally emailed the counselor about how the kids from my child's school were threatening to beat him on campus DAILY, throwing rocks over my wall after school, harassing me at my front door multiple times a day (5-6 kids) and causing chaos in my neighborhood and so on.. I let her know I would be filing court papers soon if it didn't stop and to notify the other kids parents regardless if it was on campus or not. After all of that, SOCIAL SERVICES came to question us. It's actually quite funny, even the ss agent was rolling her eyes at the report stating she had to follow through by law even if the report was absurdly obtuse. I did let her know that I would personally sue the school for making a false allegation and report with no substantial evidence or proof. Don't judge a book by its cover, ever. I have extremely deep roots with high ranking attorneys here in LA, OC and most of the US & Asia that would be more than happy to defend an innocent child that's being ridiculed by people that believe they are above you. I did not want to send my kids to school after that & I should have listened. My second oldests teacher (Miss. ROSEBOROUGH) pulled him out of class the next day (after the SS incident) and repeatedly stated to him "I KNOW YOUR PARENTS HIT YOU WITH THE BELT, NEXT TIME YOU TELL ME".... He was devastated. My son loves me more than anything and to hear her making up lies about me broke him to the core. This woman or "teacher" which she is not.. Had the nerve to tell my extremely sensitive child brainwashing lies that came from where?!... No idea. I still laugh at that statement simply because my husband and I don't own belts and do not beat our kids. Our kids are the most loving, caring souls and we use communication to fully express our feelings - NOT VIOLENCE. I took my kids out school after that. They're home schooled now and are SO MUCH HAPPIER. They don't cry everyday anymore, anxiety symptoms ceased, depression and everything else that was associated with what the teachers and counselor put them through. Be aware of this school & anyone that "teaches" your child*** I have received statements from multiple people that have had similar experiences. Irvine and oak creek very much has an under belly of darkness which no one will ever speak about. It's known as the best, safest city to live in and is exactly the opposite. They keep everything very well concealed here. Much like the schools..
