Tandoori Lamb Chops with Mint Chutney and Vegetables
    Caroline P.

Hubby and I came for dine in while we were waiting to pick up our son from a gathering at a neighbouring pub. After our server checked our QR codes and identification, we were ushered to a small "half booth" (the booth seats were arranged against an outside wall and there were two chairs across the table). This restaurant is quite small (4 full booths and 4 half booths), but there was adequate distancing between the diners and the cordial staff were wearing masks. It was a very thoughtful for our server to bring us warm utensils and plates a few minutes before serving the food. Vegetable pakoras: nicely seasoned, lightly battered and crispy, and not too oily. The pakoras were served with a dipping sauce of coconut chutney that was refreshing and not too sweet. Lamb chops roasted in the tandoor: marinated with herbs, yogurt, mint, and garlic. The perfectly seared and juicy chops were served with a side of mint chutney and vegetables. I would have preferred the vegetables to be sautéed/lightly seared, as I am not a big fan of raw onions and thickly cut carrots. Coconut rice: really delicious! We loved the way the coconut milk and bits of toasted coconut permeated the rice! Garlic naan: soft and flavourful without being too oily, although I would have liked a little more garlic. Malabar chicken curry: Kerala style curry with coconut milk. We enjoyed this curry immensely; the chicken was very tender and the sauce had just the right amount of spice(without being as spicy as a vindaloo) balanced by the creaminess of the coconut milk. There were a lot of other South Indian dishes on the menu that we wanted to order, but there's only so much that two people can eat. We will definitely be back!

    Ghee masala dosa ($9.95)

Raj Palace specializes in South Indian cuisine. With three locations in Calgary, you have your pick of the litter. We decided to grab a late Saturday afternoon snack/lunch and stuck with what they're best known for, which according to our Indian friend is their southern fare. - Masala uttapam ($9.95) - thicker soft dosa topped with special spiced mix masala and mildly garnished. Served with sides of chutney and sambar. My buddy described it as being an Indian style pizza. It was my first time trying an uttapam and it was quite enjoyable. Very light and surprisingly filling. It reminded me somewhat of an omelette. Definitely give it a try if you've never had it. - 3x Ghee masala dosa ($9.95) - lentil and rice crepe made in clarified butter and stuffed with potato masala. Served with the same sides of chutney and sambar. My friends originally wanted the onion rava masala dosa but they were out of it already or apparently never have it on weekends because it's too time consuming to make. Quoi? Doesn't make sense to have something on your menu that you don't have on your menu but c'est la vie. If you've never had dosas, they're interesting. The crepe is extremely long, light and has a slightly crispy texture. The inside had mild (aka. not spicy) potatoes. The only issue with dosas is that I find there's not much filling to it. It's good for a light snack but that's it.

    Lamb Biryani & Plain Naan

This is a great place for an Indian food crave. A piece of advice, reserve a table for a party of greater than 4 to prevent from waiting. The place is small, but the service was excellent, knowledgeable of the menu, offers suggestions to new people. It is also flexible in offering various spicy level. I have visited this establishment twice upon writing this review and both occasions left me very satisfied. My recommendations are the following: *Biryani (the orange rice in the picture) *Masala Uttapam *Gobi Manchurian (the other picture is a vegetarian dish, battered cauliflower, but using Indian spices) *Garlic Naan *Saffron Rice *Chicken Roganjosh *Mango Lassi (a yogurt-based drink with mango concentrate) Overall, great food, tiny place, excellent service, speed of food delivery is slow, a bit pricey, but all worth it.

This is my family's very favorite Indian restaurant! South Indian is different from other styles of Indian food, so you won't see typical dishes like Butter Chicken. Be adventurous! Order Chetanandu Chicken, Gobi Manchurian (dry), Coriander Prawns, Lamb Roganjosh, Chicken Tikka, Prawn Kurma (similar to Korma only Kurma is how South Indians spell it). Dosa is a burrito shaped crepe filled with potato masala or lentil and rice. There is a huge party size dosa for 10 people, but the normal one is just right for 2-3 people to split. I see a lot of people order it as a meal, but I have too many favorite dishes to do that.

Really like this place! The owner was very friendly, had a warm smile on his face the whole time. Food was also great, I got the crepe with chicken. Also asked for very spicy and man, it was soooo spicy! But in a enjoyable way. I just love the combination of all the different spices that Indian cuisine offers, created a very diverse taste palette. A coconut sauce and a curry sauce were offered on the side. The coconut sauce really balanced the spiciness of the chicken fillings. Got the mango lassi to end my meal, delicious! Will go back again for sure!

I found Heaven via GF social media and it did not disappoint. For an app, I split the Yuca Buenolos with my husband, and they were kinda heavy but worth it. I got the Pulled Pork Arepa and him the Arepa Pabellon -- both were large and raveworthy!! I had planned on only eating one bite of the Tres Leches and taking it all to-go, but ended up sitting down and devouring the whole container on the curb because it was literally that tasty and nostalgic. Next day, I went out of my way to come back for lunch. The Roasted Chicken Quesadilla and gluten free BEER were the chefs kiss. Highly recommend, esp for Celiac travelers! Chill ambiance with attentive service & nice bathroom for customers.

The owner tries to argue his way out of it that it is not greed but due to overhead. Get real. I can name at least half-dozen restaurants within walking distance that would not dream of prices for drinks bordering on usury. This places charges 70 percent more that virtually every other restaurant in the same area, all facing the same overhead. Every last one is $2.90 or less. Heaven is not even remotely competitive. The food I give four stars to but I have to downgrade the overall experience to one-star because I do not like being taken for a ride. I generally have 3 soft-drinks with a meal and 50 percent of my bill going to my beverage comsumption makes this a restaurant to avoid.

They have a second location downtown but this one is located next door to Springbank Cheese. We dropped in on an early Tuesday evening (6:30pm) and the patio was busy. Service was good; our waitress checked in on us several times. The menu is small; antipasti, pizza, pasta, kids menu and dessert. Dishes are meant to be shared family style. - Fusilli ($20.00) - fusilli had a good al dente bite. Really enjoyed the lemon bits; added bright, acidic notes. Didn't notice much, if any, of a chili sauce hit. - Kale campanelle ($18.00) - the green olives were a brilliant addition. Never had that in a pasta dish before. The only two things we didn't like about the pasta dishes was that the portion sizes were too small. You won't get full on one. - Tearing me up ($19.00) - pizzas are a better portion but there wasn't much eggplant on it. Tasted more artichoke than eggplant. The spiciness comes from the chili oil. Standard flavours. - Mind your manner ($22.00) - not sure where the "wagyu" comes in; we couldn't tell the difference. The hot honey was an interesting addition. Added some sweetness but nothing over the top. AK was good, simple Italian fare but the portion size is somewhat lacking. 3.5 stars.
