We wish we had ordered our trusses at another business, we paid RAKS for trusses weeks ago and all they do is say he said she said. We were working with a nice Engineer when the company was sold, then they fired that Engineer then apparently the person who fired the Engineer died. We were first scheduled to get trusses late June but then the company sold and they had to change to new software. Since then it's been excuses after excuses, save yourself and go with another company. read more

Back when I started penning these here reviews, I never imagined a freaking global pandemic would impact my experience at a business. But here we are. Two Covid-related issues shaped my impression of RAKS: * Overpriced, inflation-gauged plywood, definitely not their fault. * Literally no masking whatsoever, throughout the office, in mid-December 2021, at the height of the Delta variant and a state-wide mandate. I mean, they coulda at least attempted to post a sign on the door, or something. After you place your order you'll drive into the lumber yard and a forklift will arrive to load you up. The place felt very Unionized, a vibe I appreciate, so if you're a Union shop, RAKS, good on ya. I'm a sucker for supporting local alternatives to big box home improvement stores, but in this particular case, the big box right up the street -- Lowe's -- did a far more exemplary job of complying with a global health crisis than this particular alternative. read more

Only leaving a star because you have to. I really don't understand why the time they close is posted as 3:00 on Saturday but the yard closes at a completely different time than the store itself which is new to me. We called ahead and the person that answered gave us nothing but attitude and hung up on us TWICE. We finally showed up with TEN minutes left of the yard closing (they failed to notify us of the different times over the phone) so we thought we had time! We didn't as they closed the yard even with 10 minutes to spare, understandable, they just want to go home. The guys in the yard were willing to help us out, said we could go get what we needed. The staff inside was just plain rude and not even TRYING to help us. They weren't letting us PAY or ANYTHING because the yard was closed....even though the yard workers said it was okay....dumb. We said whatever and just drove to the other side of town to the other Raks. They need to work on their customer service inside and on their communication skills. Ridiculous. read more

Best prices in town for railroad ties w/ delivery. The sales person assured us that the delivery guys would place the ties where we need them to be in the yard. We asked if they guarantee that, because no one else in town provides that service. (and we really, really needed the set up since it's just me and my little old lady mom) Sales lady said oh yes, no problem, we can do it. We said YAY!! Delivery came this morning. Just the driver, alone. He tells us that his order was only for drop delivery. Spent the next 20 minutes or so getting the run around from a few managers at their various stores. The sales person that were had initially purchased from called back to apologize for the misunderstanding but they won't do set up and there are no refunds. UPDATE: 7/7/20. The owner Todd called us on the day of delivery after the snafu. He was very courteous and professional (I think he's an owner) Anyway, Todd rocks. He assured us that someone would be contacting us to arrange for set up. A little later, a manager named Joe called us and proceeded to give my mom a lecture about how they do business and that they never do set up and that all of this got dumped on him even though it was the other stores fault. Yadda yadda....He was a grouch, Joe did not rock. But once my mom mentioned having spoken with Todd, Joe relented and said someone would come to do the set up in the morning. Two guys did come out some time after 1pm. Luckily, they sent a really nice/friendly/above and beyond guy named Eric who was working his butt off getting work done out in this heinous heat. Eric also rocks. (The other dude spent most of his time looking for shade and standing in it. Lol.. it's was quite a contrast in work ethic) So, now that all is said and done we are very appreciative of the pleasant and helpful folks we encountered at Raks but there is still a bit of a dark cloud left from the encounter with the manager that did not rock. Called ahead to make sure what I needed was in stock. Yes, they said. I go there 30 min later. No, they told me wrong. They have a different size. Ok, I'll make that work - so I buy it. Go out to the yard, they don't have that either. Literally EIGHT guys are telling me a different story every 5 minutes about the product being one thing vs. another. Was at this shop over an hour for something that should have taken 20 min tops and ended up leaving empty handed. Infuriating. read more
