This is a follow-up on my recent post describing some questionable service from Rally Subaru for an oil change. I received a fair amount of feedback that I had been scammed. Given the dealership contacted me, apologized and refunded the cost of the belly pan bolt replacement, I cannot say I was scammed but given my complaint was accepted so readily I do now wonder why I was charged in the first place. I had indicated my initial e-mail complaint was ignored . I receive DMARC reports from all the major e-mail, and I did receive one from outlook indicating my mail was accepted. When their service follow up email is replied to, rallyappointments@outlook.com address is pre-loaded into the reply (this is a different email address from the sender), While Rally Subaru may not be using the mail box any longer it is active and mail is accepted. When the service manager contacted me she advised that e-mail address was no longer used. If an email address is no longer used it should not be publicly available. She was responding to the review I had posted on rate a dealer.ca (basically the same as my original Yelp post). It is commendable they acknowledged fault and made recompense but it does raise the question why I had to pay for the service in the first place and only when I complained was action taken. Almost seems like they intended to take advantage of me if they could. Not really a scam but not really behaviour with integrity either. read more

The lying. They told me I'd get extended crossbars on my car. I didn't. I left a message with the dealership receptionist saying I'd gotten the wrong crossbars and they did not call me back. They did, however, send me an email two weeks later offering a referral bonus, so that was important enough for them to reach out. Meanwhile, I'd learned that my car wouldn't take the kind of crossbars they'd sworn I'd get. But what do they care about that? Lie, make the sale and move on. They also told me I'd get one key fob replacement per year with this car, for the first three years. Well, I happened to lose a key a month after purchase so I was sure glad I had that. Except, no I don't. Another lie (and three people heard it, so I'm not imagining things.) All they care about is the sale, after which you're ghosted and they refuse the things they offer. The sales guy did offer to "make it right" about the crossbars after I told him they were the wrong bars, but he did it at the end of a scolding email where he said he didn't know they were the wrong bars because I didn't tell him (again, I left a message with the receptionist and heard her typing it in, so I very much doubt this story) and then complained because "I called you once and you said "why are you calling?" The reason on that was, I'd told him I didn't like phone calls and preferred email unless it was urgent and he ignored what I said--should have taken that for the red flag it was. So, yeah, he didn't get back to me about the crossbars until I called him out for ghosting me for weeks, then scolded me for two paragraphs before grudgingly offering to "make it right"... though I don't see how when the crossbars I wanted wouldn't work. I even said in his office, "If you can't do the extended, I'll get after market" and he said, "No, you're not going after market!" Believe me, now I'll be going after market for EVERYTHING my car needs, and I sure won't be dealing with Rally Subaru. By the way, they forced me to sit through a twenty minute speech on their extended warranties after I repeatedly said I didn't want them, as if I'd gone to a time share sales pitch in Florida. Sure glad I held my ground in the fact of that barrage, because I have no doubt my warranty coverage would be no different from the supposed key fob replacements or extended crossbars. These guys are brutal. Terribly inefficient and over-price their vehicles by ~10% through adding additional accessories and 'things' that inflate the price disproportionately to the cost of the actual accessories. Really shady. Go to Scott Subaru in Red Deer instead. read more

Will not be visiting again, after asking about test driving a used vehicle I had been interested in, I was told it had an offer in however it had fallen through this morning. So I took it for a test drive, found that it pulled rather aggressively to the right when accelerating, on returning and explaining this, I was told the vehicle had just come in and had not been ran through by the mechanics. Either one of these things was a lie or you're selling vehicles without having them inspected in anyway shape or form. Either way, not a place to be trusted. read more

Buyer beware! If you don't like last minute surprises, steer away from Rally Subaru. I recently got a big surprise that left me without the car I had planned buying and without the 2022 Crosstrek I was driving. A few pieces of advice when dealing with Rally Subaru. Number 1: GET IT IN WRITING. Preferably in the form of a conditional sales agreement. Number 2: if they are buying your car or taking it as a trade-in, make sure they walk you through each line of the sales offer. Especially if something changes during the sales process. I guess with new car sales at an all time high, Rally's Customer service and professionalism has taken a back seat! read more

The service advisor Jonathan is an absolute pig! Saying gross things about women and being very rude when you are trying to be helped. Also he was staring at my chest the whole time talking to me and made me feel very uncomfortable. I will be going to the other location from now on or I'll be selling my Subaru crosstrek as it's clear you hire perverts at this location and I feel unsafe as a customer. Never going back. I've actually been coming here since before this was Rally Subaru. It used to be a VW dealership and I used to own a VW. Right about when Subaru moved in I had decided that it was time to try a Subaru after driving VWs for 30 years or more. However this is a dealership review, not a car brand review. I think one of the best things about Rally Subaru is their shuttle service. Sometimes the shuttle even comes before the service department calls to say my Forester is ready. Today the shuttle was full and likely headed downtown. I thought they might hand me a taxi chit but instead they gave me a brand new Subaru Outback. I wasn't even complaining about the wait! Rally has a reasonably nice waiting area with free coffee and water. It could be a bit larger but it's nice enough. I have seen the waiting areas of other dealerships that range from barely plausible to over the top. Rally is about average in this regard. I could comment on the vehicle buying experience (below expectations) but that was five years ago and wouldn't be relevant anymore. When my car is finished being serviced they usually give it a free car wash which I certainly appreciate. The last thing I'll say is that the location is very handy as it's right between Calgary Trail and Gateway Blvd. Many of the new dealerships are tucked away in suburban industrial parks which are not handy for anyone. I give Rally Subaru an overall above average for service. read more

I set up my appointment on 5/5/2022 and the earliest they could get me in was 5/26/2022. I was to have my tires switched out from winter to summer and an oil change. My appointment was schedules for 1030. When I arrived, I was asked if it'd be finished by end of day and the desk lady was adamant that it'd be done before closing. At 2:20 PM I get a text from Ashley saying that they may not be able to get to it that day and if I could leave it overnight. I told them that I was specifically assured it'd be finished before end of day and she replied "a tech called in sick and we running behind schedule." Now the shop is only open until 5:30 pm so unless this is a part-time tech he would have had to have called out prior to me dropping off my car in order to get a full shift in. Therefore, I should of been notified BEFORE dropping my car off that they were short staffed. Not to mention, so nothing was done on my car for 4 hours? I get another text at 3 pm that they have a tech looking at it. I arrive back in the shop to another lady telling me about the wear on my tires and that they "don't recommend" me having them put on and instead should opt for brand new ones. (I get the estimate after my service for 4 tires/alignment etc. for over THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS.) LOL after another hour and  a half of waiting in the shop, after being told 45 mins tops, I pay and come out to my car. It's not even washed! Talk about cherry on top! Why ask me if I want a complimentary car wash if you aren't going to wash my car? Honestly, after the 3 wks just to get seen and sub-par service, I probably don't come back. Might as well take it to my local shop. read more

subaru is my favourite make of vehicle . that being said , I would never buy another vehicle from this dealer . the service team seems nice but they make promises and when the time comes for them to follow through that's when nobody knows what your talking about . if they say anything to you I would get it in writing . also the mechanics make mistakes pretty much every time . from putting tires on backwards to letting shit leak all over your manifold and nearly catching fire . they are a joke . I still paid full price and any promises made to me were completely forgotten about . nobody knew what I was talking about . how convenient for them . Lets play games with our clients, overcharge for basic repairs and make them come back multiple times for simple things that we can't get right. But don't dare complain, or you will hurt our feelings and we will make sure to punish you for that. Words fail me to describe massive dissatisfaction with this company, I didn't start out that way but the general message is "we are too cool for you". There are a raft of practices and policies in this place that have turned getting service on your car into some kind of popularity contest. If you are not one of the cool kids and don't know the secret word, then you are likely not going to leave happy....but who cares? They have your money already and what can you do about it except place a review on yelp. Aaaa Today I'm told that the wrong part was ordered but that "there's no way to be able to tell until they have it next to the car". I'm supposed to believe that? So the pracice is to just guess when ordering parts and hope for the best? After all, clients all have endless amounts of time. If you don't have a way to identity parts then maybe you could order several parts so that you WOULD have the right part for the repair and would not have to piss me off with your idiotic and lame excuses. read more

We recently returned our lease, and while the car was good while we had it, the service the entire way through was terrible. Now, a lease would never have been my choice. I think leasing is a poor choice, but my husband leased the car before we were married in the poor advice of his dad, so what could I do? We've had to take the the car in for service several times, and the charges were usually exorbitant, even for routine stuff. What really got me, however, was when they charged us for the tire tread being too low when we returned the car. Every time we went in for service, they told us the tires were fine. A heads up that the tread was getting low, according to their standard, and we could have gotten them replaced at a much lower cost than what they charged. As for the return itself, my husband tried to get in touch with them for over three weeks to make the appointment, and wasn't able to speak to anyone until four days before hand. When my husband had additional questions, he didn't get a return phone call until an hour before the guy left, the day before. My husband, who also has a job (driving for ETS), didn't have a chance to call him back. We were left completely in the dark. The return appointment took over an hour, which was a ton of fun with a baby in tow. $1400 later, the car was returned. While it was a good car, the dealership left a bad taste in our mouths, and we won't be going back for one any time soon. read more

Seriously disappointed by the service provided. The sales manager told me what I wanted to hear until he took my money, then it was delay after delay to get my vehicle only to be told there wasn't a single one in Alberta. After speaking to the sales guy and getting the run around I called up Calgary Subaru, they had exactly what I needed and could have it ready for pick up that day. I then called the sales guy back to ask for a refund on my deposit, express my dissatisfaction and let him know that I would be taking my business elsewhere. I was told that he couldn't guarantee that I'd get my deposit back because he wasn't a sales manager; I would have to come in and speak with a sales manger. I called the dealership back and asked to speak with a sales manager and had no problem getting my deposit back, funny. After a week of going around in circles and despicable customer service, I'm happy Rally Subaru will not be getting a cent of my money. read more

Went for Service B at 20,000km. Asked for a quote. Was given a range $480-$580 noting that it will increase depending on filters needing replacement. Note that Service B is Service A ($147) plus 4 others: SERVICE A ($147 labor and parts) Replace engine oil and filter Inspect tire condition and adjust all tire pressures including spare Inspect and adjust all fluid levels including both differentials Inspect operation of all lights, wipers and washers Inspect and adjust drive belt tension if necessary Service battery Inspect axle boot condition Lubricate all latches, hinges and locks Inspect all steering and suspension components Check under body for damage Road test Service B is Service A plus: Remove, inspect and service front and rear brakes Inspect engine and cabin air filters Wheel alignment & Rotation I have a 2017 Impreza with new winter tires and rims (installed October, run 6K km). My final bill was at $586 ----simply too much. After the normal cost of Service A $147 (parts and labour) that leaves $333 to reach the low end of $480. I have new tires and rims, no rotating, alignment - I get that for free at Kaltire, so just inspecting Inspect engine and cabin air filters and brakes on that service list. I was told that brake inspection and service is 1-1.5 hours- at 150/hr is only $225, even if you include any shop parts, will not reach more than 333. I just cant understand how it escalated to $586 as no one told me about any other replacements that will bump the low-end estimate by almost $100. I communicated this to the service manager as of this writing but initial reply to me does not justify my invoice reaching the high range. I was told that: "I never want a customer to feel pressure about services, as we do our best to address concerns. All this being said, at minimum, performing oil changes is very important, but, if larger services need to be split up between 2 services, that is also an option." I was never told of this option, nor was I consulted on parts of service that will escalate my final bill. The simple leap from 480 to 580 and the reason was not even made clear to me----for this I asked Cheryl in a separate email. I am not sure if this will ever find resolution and I get a reasonable compensation for this but I am bent on making this a goal to right this wrong regardless if I have to escalate this to the media and authorities. This is a matter of principle and equity. If they can't see this and resolve this concern, then you have been warned. read more

This is not the first time i have been upset with Rally Subaru....they changed my winter tires and half way home the back tire came off searing off the lug nut..... Today i bring it in for a passengerside airbag recall... Pick it up 4 hours later...get in the car and notice that there is a huge crack going laterlly and vertically across my front windshield...go back to inform them....then the dance of blame begins....the mechanic went out and spent a good 5 minutes examing it....then came back to say there had been a rock chip there....no i do not remember that as i was cleaning the car for a long hwy journey and would have noticed....went to talk to the mechanic who worked on it and said yup there was a chip there....(convienient)...talked to the managet and said look it was not thete when i handed the car over to you...now it is....you have to assum some blame.....nope! Felt they really didnt care for the customer just the money. read more

I took my vehicle into rally Subaru for recall work which was done with no charge. However, while it was being done I received a call indicating that there were several items they had discovered that required work. they offered a written quote which I received when I picked up the car. It recommended replacement of the cabin filter, the engine air filter, a wheel alignment, and servicing of the brakes for a total of over $600. I had just had the 40,000 km servicing done the previous week and all four of these items were addressed or inspected. The the shop that did the work reported that the cabin filter had been replaced, the engine filter did not require replacement. I checked these myself and the cabin filter was brand-new and the engineer filter was clean. they also reported that they had inspected the brakes and no maintenance or other work was required. Neither they nor I saw any evidence of any need for a realignment of the wheels. To me it was obvious that the service department at Rally Subaru either did not inspect the car as they said they did or they lied about what they found. read more

The service department is always slow and it's hard to get an appointment. My car sometimes is there for days on end as parts seem to be hard to get and have to be ordered. I am having to call and get updates as no one calls me. I need a new car as mine is out of warranty but because of my service experience each time I want be investing in a Subaru read more

We purchased a 2013 Crosstrek from Rally. We like the car but both Rally and Subaru Canada choose not to stand behind this car. In the US a class action suit was brought against Subaru resulting in compensation to owners or replace engines in the 2013 Crosstrek. Another class action took for the 2013 Crosstrek took place in Quebec where Subaru was ordered to pay 20% of the purchase price plus the cost of oil consumed. Between servicing with our 2013 Crosstrek we have had all the oil consumed twice and a third time a warning light that there was no oil this is the same problem that courts ruled against Subaru. Rally and Subaru Canada have pointed fingers at each other saying that the other has to determine if anything should be done. Meanwhile we have a vehicle that is deemed unsafe to drive and we get talked down to by service. My experience with Nissan, Honda, Toyota and Mazda has been great and I have heard great things with Subaru, I wish I could have experienced it. Greatly disappointed. read more

By and far, dealing with Darien at Rally Subaru was the best dealings we had when it came to my mother in law buying a new vehicle. She basically knew what she was looking for, requested to test drive it, and that was it. We were never asked about price points or budget which I found super refreshing. We went to some other dealerships, as we wanted to shop around, but ultimately came back to Subaru because they were the best in both vehicle, and customer service. The gentleman that took care of us was super knowledgeable (even with the ton of in depth questions my husband had). All in all, we came back 3 times, and the service and attention were the same every time; consistent and superior to the other dealerships. Negotiation on a price point was easy to do, especially with my mom in law knowing exactly what she wanted, and wasn't up to playing games. She is super happy with her purchase (loves her 2017 Forrester) and didn't feel like she had any buyers remorse or a sour taste like the other places we visited. I highly recommend Rally Subaru, and have let friends and family know about our outstanding experience. I called ahead to say I wanted to look at two vehicles that were on my fleet list. I arrived and the fleet manager (who later said he was the dealership manager) didn't acknowledge me but passed me on to a junior associate. She tried her best but clearly was junior. She asked for help and got blown off by the manager. Decided not to choose a Subaru vehicle as the first impression was so bad. read more

Seems to me Rally Subaru is all about profit and sales numbers from the top down, and to achieve those numbers, they will exhaust every means possible, including denying whatever was verbally promised previously. If it's not in writing, it didn't happen. I spent more than an hour on Wednesday trying to get my refundable deposit back from the sales manager. He tried every tactic I could imagine to keep my deposit: make me feel bad about wasting 1.5 hours of his sales' time last Saturday - check; belittle me about my ethics for shopping around after putting down a refundable deposit - check; deny that he and his team (sales, business) confirmed multiple times with me that the deposit was refundable - check; shut me off by repeatedly saying that "I'm done with you, end of story, you are not getting your deposit back." - check; scare me by saying I went into a legally-binding contract with the dealership when signing the paper for them to start locating the vehicle for me - check; change his mind minutes after agreeing to issue me the refund and restart the whole " I'm done with you" process - check; "You have to talk to my boss tomorrow." - check... I had to remind him numerous times that by not refunding me the refundable deposit and insisting that he has a legally-binding contract that I signed, I was still his customer. So he had to treat me as one, with decency. The way I was treated was very unprofessional and uncalled for, and I was glad that I 1) made the right decision of not buying a vehicle from them, 2) did not have my wife by my side this time at Rally Subaru to go through this horrible experience. To the sales manager: thanks for eventually issuing me the refund for my REFUNDABLE deposit. I had to leave a review anyway because I woke up with a nightmare in the middle of the night about what happened today at your dealership and could not go back to sleep. I specifically did not share any name since 1) this is not a positive review, 2) I don't want to make it look, by any stretch, like a personal attack - I would like to believe it's the dealership's fault by focusing on the wrong KPIs. Had your team been more transparent about pricing & terms, and/or kept me in the loop of locating the vehicle for me, it would have been a better review. Gosh, it would look so much nicer to have "Rally Subaru" on the back of the vehicle versus the alternative. Well, you can't have it all... read more

The Sales department was good when they sold me the car in September 2015. The service department is just terrible. It is very difficult to get hold of someone (who can actually give me the answer I need). The rear windshield washer system stopped working three times in one year and every time I brought it in they made me feel that it was somehow my fault. The last straw was when I had to leave my car for the whole day. I had an appointment to replace my three brand new tires as one of them had to be replaced due to a flat tire. They kept the car for the whole day, The lady came to pick me up at 3:45 and I had to sit in the dealership till 5:45 after the car has been with them since 8:00 AM. The lady who went to check the status of my vehicle at 5:00 PM suddenly wished everyone a good weekend and left without letting me know the status. I am now thinking of going back to Honda as the service there is fantastic! read more

Just stay away from the dealership. The salesman wasn't truthful. I only came to know about the car was a year older than discussed while signing the papers. By that time I sold my car, so I had no choice but to buy the car from rally. read more
