I went in with a VERY specific design that I had come up with, not realizing that I was cutting out the majority of a tattoo artist's value of being the artists they truly are, but because of my story and the meaning the design carried, she agreed to do it for me. It was a great experience, reasonably priced for level of experience, and I've received so many compliments on the vividness of the color and shading. I haven't regretted it for a second, and I can't wait to get another. Next time, I'm definitely having her design it as well though!

Denise took either my very rough doodles or just rough ideas and went beyond my highest expectations every time. People really go nuts for her work. I get stopped on the street constantly. Heck her tattoos have probably gotten me laid more than once if we are being honest :) Her custom work, much of which is freehand is where she really shines. She can do anything you ask but when you just let her run wild the results are fantastic. She is an extremely talented painter so her fine art sensibilities really add something wonderful to her aesthetic. She can take something that may have been done 1000 times in a traditional Asian or old school way and give it a Baroque European flair that is totally her own thing. Her ability to work with subtlety and shading is phenomenal. She's super honest and fair with all her clients. Her studio hygiene and quality of equipment are impeccable. She does super clean, crisp work that heals easily. She is very conscious of different skin types and ethnicities and how they react to a needle. Her hand is very light, so much that unless she is maybe working on my ribs I can actually fall asleep. I usually do not because Denise is such a great person to chill with. It's always a great experience. When you are doing something permanent, expensive and often very personal, you want to have not only great work but a great overall vibe and bedside manner from the artist. Denise has a lot of integrity in her craft and in the relationships she builds. Now go give her all your money!!!

I got sick on the day of the appointment and had to reschedule but Jay said that due to her cancellation policy she refused to rebook me. That's $900 for something I now have to get fixed by another artist. DO NOT PAY FOR YPUR TREATMENTS IN ADVANCED. Better yet, find a local tattoo artist. I was able to fix what she messed up for $150. What a horrible person. Who bitches someone's scars and then doesn't refund for the bad work? I'm devastated.

This review is a follow up review…read more While it is common knowledge that not all tattoos are made to be permanent, especially cosmetic ones, I am so pleased with how Jay's work has aged over the past year and a half or so. For context, Jay camouflaged a scar I was left with after a medical procedure. Since I received her services, I couldn't feel less insecure about the scar--Jay did her job so well, one might even ask, "what scar?" An additional note, I fondly remember Jay's kindness and understanding in all of our sessions... One instance, I missed a payment and she reached out directly, she was professional and understanding as well as patient as I rectified my error. Seemingly small acts of kindness like this should be mentioned when big corporations care so little about us, as individuals. To each their own (experiences), however I truly believe anyone who has any negative or unprofessional experience of Jay's work or her character simply should reevaluate their own insecurities. This woman is one of genuinely caring people I've had the pleasure of knowing and I felt safe with her always. Though I am thankful to no longer need her services, I admit I miss getting to be in her presence and catch up with Jay. Rest assured, you are in the best hands!

Since the band is celebrating their 50-year anniversary (who knows how much longer they'll be touring), and my 50th birthday is approaching, I decided the time was right for a Maiden tat to be a birthday present for myself. There are plenty of "Eddie" (the group's iconic mascot featured on every album cover) tattoos out there depicting "Eddie", but finding someone with experience with the subject matter AND located someplace in the US I could get to. That was a tall order. When I stumbled upon Ruben Barahona at Graveyard NYC, I knew right away that he was THE guy. When I saw his studio, with Iron Maiden memorabilia all over the place...well that just confirmed it. I live in the Southwest, so the logistics of getting this done while I was in NY, around Ruben's busy schedule wasn't easy - but a small price to pay to schedule with a world-class artist like Ruben. I was sitting down with the Babe Ruth of tattooing, with zero knowledge of the process, and no idea where to begin. He couldn't have been more patient or understanding. I could go on and on about what an incredible artist he is, his attention to detail, or his unwavering dedication to making sure it came out just right - but what made the experience next-level was his passion for the work. He was as excited as I was! It was just a real privilege to have him do my tattoo, and I am just really, really grateful for being able to work with Ruben. Oh yeah, and he is also just an awesome guy. Just about everyone I've showed it to said it was the best tattoo they'd ever seen. If you couldn't already tell, I love my new ink so much. I can't stop looking at it. One more thing though - I didn't want to kill the vibe, so I didn't really talk about it during the session, but I've been struggling with some pretty bad depression for a while now.
