It's not your typical Ralphs store, which is interesting in its own right. The temperature of the store is too cold for me, and I had to stay in the car while the wife shopped. I tried to do short bursts of energy in looking for what I needed, but started getting the chills. I'm not sure whether it was the store or if I was just ethnocentric shopping at the only Western Market in Monterey Park. There were no special sales racks, and the shelves seemed a bit less stacked than other Ralphs I frequent, but I was surprised that it was doing a brisk business in this traditionally Asian influenced city. What makes it so interesting was there was almost every ethnicity shopping at this store, as Monterey Park is fairly diverse and serves a large Asian population. I shopped here with my dad about two weeks ago because I had to get some ingredients to make my mango salsa (requested by my bff -_-) for the bff's pool party. My dad saw the potatoes were $1/bag. Um..what?! So my dad got two bags of those and I think that was all he got because the other vegetables were not cheap. So when we were paying, the cashier told me he also got two bags himself. Hahah He said someone made a mistake on the orders so the system got completely messed up. Therefore, they ended up ordering TONS and TONS of potatoes that they don't know how to get rid of but to sell it for cheap. This is a smaller Ralphs, but it has been newly remodeled (within the last 6 months) and it is much nicer inside. They moved some of the items to different locations in the store, so it took a little while to find what I needed. I usually buy bread, condiments, salads, fruits at this location because the Costco sizes are too large for me. Overall, it's a good Ralphs with just about everything you need. There's also one Redbox located inside the store. It's my goto grocery store since it's close to my house. The staff is usually friendly and helpful. I haven't had a bad experience at this location. Not sure why such the larger amount of negative reviews here. Do people just naturally gripe and give bad reviews just because they can? I have had different experiences than that. Well, I have been coming here since before it was Ralph's, but when it was Hugh's Supermarket. I really miss Hugh's, now that was a grocery store. Howe's was related to them but they went out of business recently, at least the one on Huntington and San Gabriel. Okay I digress. Ralph's is a fine grocery store. I have had good experiences here with the products they carry and the staff. There is also the one at Atlantic Square. I live equal distance between the two so I chose to go to this one because the parking at The Square is just too much to deal with. Altho this Ralph's on Emerson is crowded I can usually find a parking spot with no issue at all. Sometimes I buy prepared food at the deli counter because I am too lazy to cook and I don't want to go to a fast food place. The prepared food like fried chicken and potato wedges are really tasty. The chicken strips tho they could put more crust or batter on them like they do the whole chicken pieces. The staff there have always been very friendly and helpful too. Often times I am in the meat section to pickup some meat on sale. I love to BBQ and if they have something that is worthy of bbq then I buy it. Recently I saw some NY Steaks on sale and they didn't have many left so I asked the meat department guy if there were more in back. Off hand he was not sure but he said he would check. He found about five in the back and brought them out. There were already about three in front, so I asked him if he could in his best opinion from experience pick out which are the best. He picked them and we bought about 4 of them. My mom was with me. This is not the first that he helped us out. I was with my mom. I do recall his name badge saying his name is Chris. Chris now is my go to guy for meat if he is there. I didn't catch the names of the other employees there but they are all very helpful as well but Chris is the man to go to when he is there. Overall I have had good experiences there. I love the Free Friday but that is across the board at all Ralph's and Krogers and not just this Ralph's. By the way it's cool because they had Free Friday while I was in Kentucky and my Ralph's card worked there so I got my Free Friday!!! Hope they have more candy and chips for Free Friday rather than the usual Yogurt but in the past they have had candy and chips so I guess they like to mix it up. read more

Coming from 99 Ranch continued grocery shopping I noticed how much better the customer service is. Nice, friendly, helpful. But I guess every american business can beat the asian customer service easily haha. Parking lot is a bit small. This Ralph's is smaller than other Ralph's in the valley. Very tight and very busy. I really just came here to for gift cards.... I know, what you are thinking. YUP, I procrastinated. What I love about most major supermarkets are their gift card kiosk. I found what i needed along with a birthday card and I was set. There is an option to do self check-out or the traditional standing in line and having a cashier ring you up. I chose to do that cause the self check is too fancy for me! Though it's convenient, I suck at those. The cashier was very friendly. if you get your gas at Shell, don't forget to use your Ralph's card for points. If not, get one. It's worth it! Oh another thing.... I just found out today that my husband actually look at those Ralph's weekly sales, you know the ones that comes in your mailbox each week that i consider to be "junk mail"? My husband clipped a coupon that said save $15 if you spend xxx amount and he did just that the other day. So, I learned something from him today. I come here all the time. The staff is very friendly and often go out of their way to make sure you find what you're looking for. They have a few self-checkout lines which is nice. Parking can be a pain, and often is, but there aren't many other options. Other than that it's your typical neighborhood grocery store. They have a promotion going on with Shell right now where when you use your Ralph's Club Card you earn 10 cents off each gallon at any participating Shell. Pretty nice! read more

This is my go to grocery store next to my house, I come here four times a month to stock up on affordable prime cut steaks, poultries, veggies, and other things. Usually the steak and chicken is always on sale which I enjoy very much because that saves me money oppose to other grocery stores. Parking isn't hard to find and this location closes very late so great for people getting off work. Staff is friendly and always greets me from the door and to the time I leave. The only minor problem I had was with this older gentleman that charged me twice on my chicken and this gum that I didn't buy and I had to wait a bit to receive my money back. read more

This is the closest Ralph's from where I live. However, it has been really disappointed and I don't want go anymore! Cashier is super impatient. Sometimes, I can even feel the discrimination towards other people and including me. Compare with the one also nearby which is South Pasadena, staffs are so much cooler from Monterey Park. When I go to South Pasadena Ralph's, I can feel the welcoming and staffs are really patient if I have any questions. But, this one, it just hurts my feelings! !! I got so mad! Why the staffs here can't talk a little bit friendly to customers？ Anyway, I will not go to this Ralph's anymore! Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 - 5/100 This Ralphs is pretty awesome and clean! (My second review!) The food and produce are always fresh and value (price reasonable). And I can find things rather easily. I bought one pound of hamburger beef (80/20) and did not disappoint me. I, as a grad student with an empty bank account and student loans debts, take full advantage of the great sales, which I truly appreciate. Additionally, the parking lot is huge and easy to find parking. I feel safe at 2:00AM that is the time this Ralphs is closed. Service is excellent, remember, bring your reusable bag for green points, if you are into that kind of stuff. Definitely, I'll be back to buy more fresh groceries! They had wrong price under watermelon and at the cashier I was told different price. I nicely told the manager (asian lady)that it is very deceiving. Then she just said "oh yeah somebody moved." No apology. What kind of training do they go through, if any. Then I come home, looked at receipt, realized the cashier scanned same item twice. I was overcharged. This store offers the friendliest staff, fresh produce, meats and vast selection of International products. TIP: For those of you not familiar with their deli/kitchen. Their fried chicken is the "bomb-dot-com". *I would love to see a larger selection of cheeses as in the La Cañada location. Being a Foodie and loving to entertain, this would be ideal. On 02/24/2019, I observed a Ralph's store employee engage in an escalating argument with an older woman inside the store. I do not know what she did or did not do, but I clearly heard the Ralph's employee accuse her of "running a scam" by yelling this out in the front of the cashier lines. When she asked what was wrong, he also began yelling "You are playing the race card." He was loud enough to be heard from 3 lines over and did this 4x as he walked back and forth expressing his displeasure with this woman to other employees. As I exited, the employee was red in the face and in very close proximity to this woman, continuing to argue and confront her. Again, I do not know what she did or did not do, but I interrupted the fight and told the employee that it was inappropriate for him to yell out that she's "playing the race card." A cashier came over to pull his peer away (because clearly the guy was angry), but even the cashier stated to me that the consumer "was playing the race card." I again repeated that this was not an appropriate thing to say. When the employee said he was "not being a racist," I stated that I was not saying he was being racist and again stated that what he was saying was inappropriate. In my opinion, the employees at this store REQUIRE training on handling difficult situations. What I observed was very unprofessional. There was no management by ANY employee. We all have feelings, but on the job you must behave professionally regardless. That is what policy and procedures are for. I hope that the store will train their employees to manage situations without resorting to screaming and making inappropriate statements while on the job. read more

The self-checkout cashiers does not even know how their own system operates. You do not need to place your scanned items in the filthy Covid19 bagging area. I place all of my scanned items in my cleaned shopping cart. The system will ask you to place your scanned items in the bagging area multiple times but if you wait a few seconds you can scan your next item. I had already scanned 2 items when the cashier says I need to move my items to the bagging area and reaches to grab my items. I told her DO NOT TOUCH MY ITEMS (with her filthy Covid19 hands). I paid for my items and when I am leaving I tell her she must be new. That you don't need to place your items in the bagging area. She insists that I am wrong and says END OF CONVERSATION. read more

I've been buying flowers there for the past year every 3 months and she would be the one who helped me rewrapped all of my orders. I'm so excited to see it's her who's working when I come in. Actually I'm a really big fan of Ralph's. Long story short I wanted balloons for my little brothers birthday. I waited in the floral department for assistance for over 15 minutes. No one ever came to help me out with the balloons. I drove there for nothing. I got tired of waiting and just left. They have much better service in the morning then the afternoon. Oh and FYI they called assistance in the intercom like three times no one ever came to help me. And it sucks cause I really wanted a bunch of balloons I know I won't be getting balloons from there. read more

The staff are so helpful, always offering their help in different sections of the store, good deals on fresh vegetables and fruits. As I've written about quite a few establishments, I don't think I've written a review on my local grocery stores. I hit this one up quite frequently since it's literally three blocks from my guy's house, and I can walk there no problem - I just always forget that I need to haul the groceries back home. . . which I tend to ghetto-it and stroll a cart back w/the groceries (come on! everyone else is doing it. . . ). . . For the most part, I'm able to find what I need when I need it. . . even though I tend to circle around the aisles a few times before I find something sometimes. . . and a couple of occasions, I've done a few go-arounds, and the employees don't bother to ask me if I'm lost - even though my expression clearly says, L-O-S-T. (that's annoying.) However, to make up for the lack of customer service on the floor, the cashiers and the manager at the front is fairly friendly. They greet their regular customers by name, and everyone thanks you when you leave (or maybe it's because I'm asian??). One little annoyance is that they don't have an actual chip aisle . . . they just have their chips on the end-caps. WTF is up w/that? And apparently this grocery store is the only one around. . . it's always crowded - no matter WHAT time it is. Most of the time there are lines. And the parking lot can be like a bumper car ride - watch out! read more

Wife set aside her cart fir 5 min to find something and they took it and started putting perishables away. Understandable maybe? but they did not tell her they put stuff away so we get home and "where's the steak? chicken? etc..." What the hell is up with Ralphs? I understand that they adjust the quality of their stores to the neighborhood they are in, but this is a really crappy store in a neighborhood that deserves better. The store smells as bad (or good, depending on your perspective) as the neighboring 99 Ranch. This is probably the worst Ralphs with respect to quality or selection in the San Gabriel Valley. Go a mile south to the Ralphs near Riggin and Atantic, or better yet, drive to South Pasadena. read more

They are doing their remodeling now. Closing time is at 10pm, you show up at 9:40 they basically don't allow you to go in and shop. All I wanted was some tea and a lemon because I am sick. If you don't want people to come into the store at 9:30 then change your closing time. It is really inconvenient when you have misleading hours of operations at your store and the security guard not letting people in is rude. read more

She went above and beyond by personally giving me back the wallet that I lost today.i was told someone found and turned in my wallet with the important cards in it w/o the cash at the produce dept and Rosa personally came to my place and handed it to me. Walked in around 10:30 for a few items as soon as Iam in I see no baskets around. I then proceed to buy some beer and as Iam paying the cashier says today it expired I can't use. He has the guts to say I "should carry a passport around" I reply as if everyone carries a passport around everywhere they go. I took it as racist comment cause Iam brown skinned. I like to shop at this Ralph's. Staff is friendly and helpful. Great service, however, they shouldn't let people bring their dogs or any other pets in the store. I understand if the dogs were service dogs, I have respect for them. But the ones you see here are not definitely service dogs. I don't want any germs or hair on my food. There's a place for pets and please people have some common sense and leave them at home. Also, have some respect and consideration for others. read more

They recently renovated this location and moved everything around. The aisles are all jumbled than what I am normally used to but, you can still find things. I like this ralphs, cause the workers are super friendly and nice. Always willng to help and now that its all fresh and so clean clean, it's nicer to walk around and browse. I think they are trying compete with the asian markets too cause they have a aisle for asian food instead ethnic foods. LOL I thought that was pretty interesting.
