It's a small market located on the busy Atlantic Blvd. You can park at the structure across the street and walk over or do any of the parking near the market. It's an older market, can be a bit dingy, and because of space, the item selection may be limited but I did find some gems that I haven't been able to find elsewhere. Like I had no idea HaiDiLao had its own beer until I went here. The tofu is hilariously under the liquor section. AC is pretty good and it's busy, but I think the prices are comparable to any other Asian market in the 626. Overall, it's an alright market. read more

On July 24, 2025, at approximately 11:25 AM, I was in the produce section selecting fruits. I took about 5 to 6 plastic bags at once, so that I wouldn't have to keep grabbing new bags while shopping. This is simply a personal habit I've developed when shopping in supermarkets. However, as I was taking the bags, a female employee began to stare at me in an unfriendly and persistent manner. She was approximately 5 feet 1 inch tall (155 cm), had short hair with a mix of brown and silver, was wearing a hat and a face mask, and appeared to be around 50 to 60 years old. She then started soliloquize in Cantonese, clearly referring to my actions. She was standing about two meters away, and there were no other customers nearby -- it was obvious her remarks were directed at me. I ignored her and continued selecting tangerines, but she kept talking the entire time until I was done. Even after I walked away, I noticed she continued to stare at me. I turned back and stared at her in return, and only then did she look away. Later on, I heard her speaking Mandarin with others, which indicates that she is fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin. Her behavior -- full of passive aggression, sarcasm, and public shaming -- made me feel extremely offended, humiliated, and harassed. It is completely unprofessional to mock customers in a public setting like this. As a paying customer, I deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. I strongly urge your team to thoroughly investigate this iidentify the staff member, and take appropriate disciplinary action to ensure that such unacceptable behavior does not happen again. Soon GW supermarket will have a walk through that connects to the soon to be Haven Market food Market Place . I found some great sale on frozen durian from Vietnam at $2.99 lb. and Chinese Thaisan cauliflower at 99 cents a lb. Sadly I passed up on both . The cauliflower looked wilted and brown , the durian my children and their friends will faint if I drove the durian home in my car lol!! I stopped in for groceries after having lunch down the street. This was my first time in a GW Supermarket. First impression was that the market was clean and had a variety of fresh produce nicely displayed. Prices were comparable to 99 Ranch for the most part. I didn't venture into the meat section, but checked out some of the canned and dried products. I thought the aisles were narrow and hard to maneuver through with other customers in the same aisle. I'm not sure if there was a membership card and didn't ask. I'd stop in again if I were in the area. read more

I was in the Monterey Park neighborhood and I've been wanting to check out Bobaful that's located inside Courtyard by Marriott. Not knowing if the latter have customer parking for free, I decided to park next door in the Mar Plaza parking lot. I felt I needed to be a patronage to Mar Plaza so I decided to check out the Great Wall (GW) Supermarket before heading over to Bobaful. I've been to this GW many blue moons ago... surprisingly, it has gone through a total face-lift. I was so impressed by the brightness of the entire market and how clean and organized it is compared to how it was back in the days. It was a WOW for me and I was in love with a supermarket LOL. Good organization and healthy cleanliness are at the top of my list in my book. I normally shop at San Gabriel Superstore, but I may have to pay more visits to this GW in the future. I walked around just to be more WOWed. Aisles are in top shape... all stocked and everything. Tons of different selections in all areas. Love the fresh produce and seafood sections. Everything looks fresh! I was in supermarket heaven LOL. Way to go GW! I ended up getting 3 Fuji and 3 Envy apples plus a container of crab base soup powder. Prices are decent. GW is like 168 Market, 99 Ranch, and all the other Chinese super markets. It's super cold and the fresh seafood section smells like an aquarium, but they'll have the specialty Asian veggies and meatballs I'm looking for. It doesn't smell as awful as Hawaii Supermarket. You come to these markets for herbs, garlic, tofu, ong choy, soy milk, and Sichuan pepper corn. Theres a 50%+ markup on fresh herbs at Ralph's for example. The trick is not buying American products like milk and snacks here. Who knows how old they are. read more

This is my go to supermarket when I come to the SGV. Their's parking available. The market is clean inside and does not smell of fish/seafood. The isles are fully stocked and clean with no boxes blocking it. There's usually a lot of employees working the check out counters so there's usually not a very long line. The fruits section are nicely set up. I like that there's a beef jerky station and a dim sum take out place right by the market. read more

This is not the first time I have bought food products that has the expiration date purposely removed, I purchased 2 bags of noodles and couldn't find the expiration date, came home and opened, it smells old and sour, I had to throw it away. Beware of the man chosing the pork loin for grinding into minced pork! He chose one fresh and one unfresh "blackish" pork loin for grinding. Be careful also of unfresh and stall chicken pieces! The employees here are way more accommodating than the ones at 99 Ranch on Garvey and Atlantic. And this place is about 20% cheaper on most items like tofu and seasoning. So this has become my first go to before I go to 99 Ranch. And whatever I cannot find here, I go to 99 Ranch. This doesn't mean that GW is lacking in variety. The opposite is true actually: I think they have more selection for a lot of things like.. if you look for sesame oil; they got 20 different kinds, whereas 99 Ranch may have just four. Alas, I must admit that I did go to 99 Ranch for ABC Kecap Manis cuz I couldn't find it at GW. My favorite, absolute favorite part, about GW is their imperfect produce section for $1. I've bought chayote, potato, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and onions. They gotta be cooked that day or the next day, but it's all good. Check online for weekly deals! There's a few locations. The closest GW market from this location is located on Garvey Ave and Rosemead. This location is a little smaller and tighter in space. The plaza looks kind of old from the outside view, but it is much nicer and cleaner once you go in. Parking: average size parking since it's located in a plaza with other smaller shops. I like how Great Wall supermarket also sells a few korean items that you would find at an Hmart. Big selection on chips and snacks. But I would say there's even more at the GW in Rosemead. They have a section of live seafood and the quality of the fruits and veggies are not bad. For COVID, they added clear dividers between the cashier and the credit card machine for social distancing. read more

I went to Great Wall Supermarket not too long ago. As a kid, I would come here when it was a previous iteration of whatever supermarket it was. It's been along time since I've actually been inside here. I was getting food at huge tree pastry and I decided that I was going to buy sauces here for home and instead of going to another market down the street I decided why not check to see if they have what I want so it saves me a trip. As of covid times, just as a fair warning the door closest to huge tree pastry is gated off so you do you have to walk towards the south facing door. I'm sure it's probably for security reasons for now. The seafood section looked very popular and there were a lot of people getting groceries here. Luckily, they do have enough people working the register is where there wasn't a wait to check out either. So that was a huge plus considering is only buying a couple of items. It does seemed a little bit cramped here but everything is well stocked and organize so items are easy to find Parking down on the south lot is probably the play for now since the north entrance is gated off. I've never been more upset in my life at a grocery store. The produce is nice, but too bad that there are only jerks working behind the butcher counter. I patiently waited a LONG time and there was only one guy there besides me. Several workers and no one wanted to help me. I kept asking for help but they said to wait. Other people came and they helped the guy right away. I told them off and left. I also complained to the cash register and they did nothing about it. The store was totally remodeled and the meat and seafood departments are pretty nice and modern. This market is not an everyday replacement for shopping at Ralph's or Vons. But if you need a fantastic selection of Asian food (albeit mostly Chinese) - or Asian Veggies come check them out. The good: I was very impressed by this Chinese supermarket! They had lots of tropical fruits like longan, jujube and rambutan. I thought everything was nicely organized and placed in an aesthetically pleasing way. The front right area has dried fruit and seeds in large jars like you'd see in an eastern medicine shop. The left side has open iced areas with fish and fish balls. I liked the red Chinese lanterns in the fruit and vegetable area and I liked how the security guard helped keep the space organized and clean by taking your rolling baskets away and putting them back while you're at the register. I haven't been to their other locations so I don't know how this one compares to it. I also got Korean turtle chips here. If you haven't tried them then get off Yelp and buy them now! They're delicious. They also have outdoor bench/patio area so you can enjoy a drink or snack out there. Half of the workers wore full body suits to protect them from COVID. The bad: I was looking for a specific brand of Chinese chili sauce and they didn't have it. However, they did have handfuls of other brands. The interesting: I got frozen baked matcha cheesecakes (4 in one box) for under $8. It was more sour than I would have liked but I love the concept and thought it was a super fun and fancy dessert. There is a parking lot and entrance both on the right and left side. Supermarket from HELL (my opinion)! After spending $100s of dollars in my shopping trips there, including buying their $500 pre-paid card, they would not refund me a bottle of $5.79 Soy Sauce that seemed defective (nothing poured out of it, not even when I punched the bottom) or even exchange with another brand of soy sauce. After spending a long time dissecting my itemized purchases on my prepaid card (to make sure I did buy it from there) all they would do was to let me exchange it with another bottle of the same brand. Their reason? I bought the bottle more than 10 days before! They asked why I didn't "call" to let them know about the problem within 10 days? I told them I had no reason to even open the bottle (purchased about 6 weeks before) before my last bottle (a different brand) ran out. They responded they didn't care; their strict rule was within ten days. Going back twice and arguing endlessly with two managers didn't change anything. Once I finish spending what's left on my prepaid card, I am NEVER going back there! read more

I noticed that there is not a line to enter the store, if you go midday. There always seems to be a line, when they open. Unfortunately, the people that are falling in line to enter the store usually don't follow the 6 feet of social distancing. Once you checkout, social distancing is enforced. I have been going to this grocery store before it changed their name to GW. I noticed that certain products that I purchased here are no longer available, but then again they have items that they didn't have before. This is my go to place for fresh Asian or Mexican fruits and vegetables. I just make sure that I wash the fruits and vegetables well as soon as I get home. The prices of their vegetables are much lower than the grocery store that is just a block away from it. They have live seafood, but their C rating by their meat and seafood area deters me from purchasing them. A friend of mine purchased and cooked their fish. She said that it was delicious. I remember when they did not have a C rating, and I enjoyed choosing my live fish or shell fish. On the north side of the store, is where my parents would purchase dried items. I happen to like their candy, cookie and tea aisles. I spend a long time trying to find something new to eat or drink. I can find candy made in different countries. I also like trying different brands of their 3 in 1 coffees and milk tea. Their assortment of fruits and vegetables is 5 stars, but their C rating by their seafood and meat reduces this place to 4 stars. read more

There are both positives and negatives with the Great Wall Supermarket, but unfortunately the negatives are large to ignore. GW does a good job with their Covid-19 protocols. They have employees moping the floor often, they're wiping down shelves, dry goods, and other touch points often, and their cashiers are dressed in plastic suits, shower caps, face shields, and masks. They wipe the check stand countertops, credit card machines, and other exposed surfaces between customers. Those are good practices. If you want a good selection of Asian food products and Asian specific fruits and vegetables, this is the place to go. But for common fruits and vegetables such as apples, bananas, strawberries, cucumber, etc., you'll find higher quality produce in your local Ralph's, Albertsons, or Costco. Where GW fails is in their meat section. It has a "C" rating which means they had some type of major health violation. GW is not a place where I would buy meat or fish. Lastly, there is the GW parking lot which is constantly littered with used disposable gloves. People are apparently concerned enough about Covid-19 and their personal health to the extent that they would wear gloves into the supermarket, but upon exiting the store and loading their groceries into their cars, they would throw their used gloves on the ground, totally unconcerned about the health of the people who have to pick up those gloves. This seems to be a commonplace practice at Chinese grocery stores only. You don't see disposable gloves laying on the ground at Costco, Ralph's, etc. This has been going for GW since the pandemic and apparently they don't care because the practice continues unabated. In summary, GW wants to be a good supermarket, but until they get their act together with their county health rating and the collection of used disposable gloves in their parking lot, they earn 2 of 5 stars. read more

I haven't been to this store in a few years and wow they remodeled it. It looks so clean and organized and well stocked. I will definitely come here more often now. Even their produce looks great and meats look fresh. The refrigerators are all new and have so much goodies.
