MICKEY is just plain rude. I purchased something earlier today on clearance, but was scanning different prices. So I came back hoping they'll just simply correct it. Mickey, the one who's supposedly helping me, was very rude, keeps cutting me off, making me feel like I'm stupid and stuff. I had to bite my tongue for me not to lash out. I told him I was just trying to explain that I got charged 3 times when I only purchased 2, and it's the wrong price. While I was talking, he keeps rudely interrupting saying "oh I know that, I understand that, I get that"...blah blah. STOP INTERRUPTING ME THEN. If you actually know, then why are you asking what happened. And had the audacity to look at me after and say "you understand?" like I'm some kind of dumb. The customer service is horrible especially if you happen to be bipoc. April, a cashier at this location berated and embarrassed me after I asked for a refund for a sale item that did not ring up properly. I told April repeated I did not need an why explanation for the error only a proper refund. April is typical of someone with a little power using it to complicate the lives and time of those in the bipoc community. This Ralph's is located off the 54 freeway at Woodman. There is plenty of parking in front of the business. We came here at night. There was so much activity in the area at night. I see ambulance and the fire department there. Crazy. Be careful driving through here as people drive like maniacs. This location is pretty ghetto. The store itself is clean and items were easy to find. We did not get any employees greeting us. The lines at the registers were not long. There is a Starbucks located in this Ralph's which is always a plus in my book. Food items were pretty cheap and affordable which is how I shop. Nowadays, everything seems to go up. Most items seem up to par as in the expiration dates except for the baked goods in the back. The dates on those were either that day or expired. There is a deli section in the back. You can find pretty much everything you need here. Descent place to shop but I advise you not to come here at night. A lot of sketchy people walk through here, so be careful if you shop here at night. read more

This Ralph's supermarket is a favorite with most folks living in Paradise Hills, for the simple reason of convenience. Actually, it's a very well-stocked store, and much more pleasing to the eye after a major remodeling several years ago. Ralph's now has vastly improved selection of produce, carrying everything from Honeycrisp apples to celery root. The in-house bakery was also upgraded, and carries virtually any sort of baked goods, short of ethnic specialties. Well, almost any sort of baked goods, I could not find a loaf of onion bread today. Oh, the humanity. Prices are not as low as say, the National City Walmart on Highland Avenue, (which probably carries onion bread) but sometimes you just don't want to endure the herky-jerky rigmarole of Wally World. This Ralph's, by comparison, is Zen. The checkers and baggers are always cordial, and sometimes downright friendly. I like that. You really need to have a (free) Ralph's card to qualify for their reasonable prices, though. So, don't leave home without it. And yes, they take AmEx. I'm a fan. read more

The Chocolate Bar is what made me think. The chocolate tasted more like a fudge rather than a frosting. The dough kind of tasted like a sweet bread but not the donut kind of bread I'm used to eating. Yesterday 5/13 I was in this Ralph's and I saw the manager handle a tough situation really well. Idk what his name was he was a tall white dude. There was a probably homeless/frequent flyer lady sneaking around the alcohol aisle and he approached her. He used her first name because you could tell this is a common situation he has to deal with. He was very firm but respectful about the situation, and I really appreciated the way he handled the whole thing. Horrible customer service a had a bad experience with a employee who always has a horrible attitude and never is nice or polite when I've came in the evening. Ive been a loyal customer of over 8 years since i moved to the nearby community and this employee has always been the worst person to run ask for when seeking help in the self check out. I asked tonight for 3 bags after paying for them and she was separating the bags instead of handing them to me she decides to throw the bags in the counter and throws her hands like what and says take them but can't say it nicely or hand them and her face was of a miserable person. The express lane is for 15 items or less. It does not say 15 LIGHT ITEMS OR LESS. I have 15 items or less, so I will go to the express lane. I'm not the only one that has had the same issues with this lady either. Now before I get into this and some justice warrior pops up, it's because I was told "uhhhhh uh uh, nope you need to go to another line" ,due to my heavy items. One can only judge a place by one's experience when said individual comes in contact with said place. I needed to go on a midnight beverage run and I didn't want to pay 2x the price for a twelve pack of soda at a place like 7-eleven. Therefore, I opted to use a location using app on my phone to find the nearest open supermarket. My phone indicated that this Ralph's was 24 hrs. So I drove here 4.6 miles from where I was at. There and back that's over 9 miles, almost half a gallon i.e. $2. When I arrived I noticed that the doors were shut. I went to push them apart thinking that they're powered down since it's so late. Just before I did, I noticed that the dead bolt was engaged and at the same time a man on the inside tells, "We're closed." I said in a raised voice that my phone said that this Ralph's is 24-hours. He again tells "We're closed!" I said, "I believe you. I'm just wondering if this used to be a 24 hour store." I want to know if maybe the app has outdated info so I can report it... No reply. "So your just going to ignore me?" No reply. We make all our judgments and feel what we feel from our own perspective which we create in the first place. So the fact that I had gone out on a limb to come here was of my own doing, so my strong negative emotional response to this is my own fault. But regardless, this men is still on the clock and part of his job is customer service. Not only was there a decided lack of customer service but this man was out and out rude. I hate being ignored, and congratulations, your employee has needlessly hurt a potential patron. I've been coming to this Ralph's for over 15 years now, haven't had any negative experiences yet. They've recently gone through renovations. The produce section is centralized and feels more coherent. I think their beverage section was touched up a bit too. I personally prefer the Ralph's grocery store over nearby Albertson's or Vons. I find it interesting that is some areas Vons is the premier store and Albertsons in other s and Ralph's in others. And what is the difference between a Pavilions and all of them. I'm told all are owned by the same parent company, but depending on the area they have vastly different rankings, quality, service, prices, etc. More specifically this location is in the hidden South Bay Terraces area near PH, Bonita, National City and Chula Vista. It's easy to get to, easy to find, the cornerstone (anchor for those in the industry) of the shopping plaza that is a bit run down. The parking lot is slanted and kind of unlevel. It definitely needs some TLC and although it's not a huge marquee location they could use a facelift. It's definitely not on the Pavilions level. The prices are kind of where I'd expect things to be. Amenities are nothing surprising and a bit dreary inside. This is the reason they will always be mediocre is the service. Most young kids that work here just have this angsty indifference and the older employees have a beaten down hard work about them, but I can't get it out of my head the moral and laziness around here. Not a single "hi, how are you", no "can I help you with that". I bagged by own few groceries as I could tell it was less of an offer, but an option. If it wasn't so damn close to my cousin's house when we "reup" on dranks. The liquor store next door is the only option, but I prefer not to buy from liquor stores when it's day time and there is other options and who knows what else I'll find that I need, but at a grocery store versus a liquor store. read more

This Ralph's has all you need as far as groceries. The deli area is also good. The employees running the deli are busy but they get the job done. I really like the chimichangas at the deli. I buy about 3 of those and a cold soda and I'm happy. Another plus is they have a wells fargo mini bank inside. They are efficient too. I might write a separate review later for this location. They also have a Starbucks station at the Ralph's location. Very convenient to drink coffee while shopping for groceries. Parking can be an issue depending on the time. I went into this Ralph's today, because I wanted to buy a box of raisin bran. I picked up a few other items as, I was checking out (self check out). I guess I missed the Ralph's club card selection on the screen, I thought I saw the sale price is on the screen, but when I paid for everything it reverted back to its original (full) price. I was told I needed to speak to the manager Megan, which I did. It took her a while to even acknowledge that I was sitting there (I'm disabled, I was in a courtesy cart.) when she finally did speak to me, she was nasty with her attitude. She yelled at me that I had to use my club card. I explain to her that I did not see a prompt for a club card, she pointed to a package of steak and loudly proclaimed that it is written right there as if I could not read, or could not comprehend the concept of a club card price I explained to her that I understood that I needed a club card to get the discount, but I did not see a prompt for it at the self check out, not on the products that I was buying. She was angry and told me that I needed to back up in my courtesy cart, when I told her I would not she told me I needed to get up and walk around . I am fuming that she belittled me because of my disability if I could have just gotten up and walked around, I would have. The checkout registers are suprisingly smart, and up to this date i have no idea how they know if the bag of chips could ever skip the scanner and make it into the bagging area, not that i do it or plan on doing it of course :D I'm sure there's a very easy to understand explanation, which one day with time will look into. The beer section has a really good variety! I mean, they surprise me! they do! they bring specialty beers every now and then, they have the combined boxed ones, asian beers, all domestic with the weird special domestic ones...and cheap prices. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember and they've made so many strides in improving their store throughout the years. They've upgraded their store with a Wells Fargo bank, Starbucks stand, and an improved store set up. I've also noticed they improved their pricing over the years as they usually had one of the more higher price points on their items, but they're a lot more competitive with prices now. I do recognize a lot of the staff has been here for a couple of years now so the store does take more of a family vibe. Most of them are pretty friendly but there are a few you could tell could care less about their job. But overall, everyone is pretty nice. Overall, not the best Ralphs I've been to, but they keep improving so I will definitely frequent this place. read more
