I used to love Rambos.. but today our experience was not so great.. i had a few encounters with the owner being rude for no reason and i let that fly.. but today again.. he was so rude just because i asked for plates???... So i checked the truck out and to my surprise, i received the delicacy of tongue, cabeza, and tripas. I used to go late nights but after coming back after two years, I get an eyelash in my taco? And a fake $10 bill as change? To hell with this truck! When has 6 tacos cost $1.50 each amounting to $9? These people are thieves! They think they're some taco outlaws when in reality, they have a power complex that revolves around their delicious tacos. Disrespectful, fraudulent, and a scam. Located along Eagle Rock Blvd (just right before York), this taco truck seems to always be there. And I realized why last night. In my search for Leo's Tacos, he never showed up, even per the Yelp hours and countless reviewers saying that they open at 8pm. I even waited for 20 minutes after! But nevertheless, this review isn't for Leo's. The point is, Rambo's Tacos is there to pick up the disappointment (and customers) that Leo's leaves behind. Their all-meat burritos ($7.50) are a whopping $1 more than Leo's and the meat is less tender and juicy, but it's not a bad alternative to waiting 45 min for a truck that may never show up. It's also a bit smaller than burritos I'm used to. They only gave me two small sauce cups for two burritos, which I felt was a little stingy. Try asking for extra if you order a burrito. They did provide a good amount of limes though! The workers are nice and you get your food quickly. They also accept card at a $1 fee, unlike many other taco trucks. All in all, I would definitely come back next time as opposed to Monster Tacos or Charlie's Tacos when I'm craving tacos or burritos (yes, there are a LOT of trucks in this area). read more

Trusty late night Mexican food truck when nothing else is open. Like the others, I found this one because I was looking for Leos...which wasn't there (but did show up on other nights). I'm a new customer so I don't know anything about the bad reviews from long time customers. My burritos were awesome and I'm so glad I have great Mexican food truck to order from. The coolest thing about this truck are the murals painted on the sides of it. I was hoping for some Stallone style ass kicking to be served up, but alas none was found on the menu. I guess I'll just have to settle for some childhood memories of eighties war montages... Though as cool as the truck itself looks, this is just your average Mexican food truck, serving up tacos, burritos, tortas & quesadillas. I will say that if you like cabeza, I'd recommend getting it here. Their salsas are pretty legit too and are a must on any taco. It's easy to locate and you won't need to stalk Rambo's on twitter. I see Rambos truck all the time at night on this street. How could I not try it? I ignored the B rating and gave it a shot after seeing so many people in front of the truck. I fell in love with their carne asada burrito with everything and sauce on the side please. So much flavor and juice from the meat. Mmm I crave Rambos late nights now. Those that know me know that I am the pickiest person there is when it comes to Mexican food so if Rambos won me over it must be that good. I can't vouch for anything else except the burrito. I was told their beans are cooked in pork fat. The absolute best way to cook those refried beans and authentic at that. Rambos tacos had the best carne aside burrito it's so good that you will want to go again the next day to grab another. I am also an avid fan of their amazing cabeza tacos'. Hey! Don't knock it till you try it. The meat is juicy tender and fatty. Their salsas don;t mess around, they pack that huge punch you're looking for. So i took it to the guy and said he messed up my order, but he keeps on insisting that I ordered it 'with everything'. But the next thing he said really turned me against Leos FOREVER... he says "you always come here and get complicated things" IT WAS MY FIRST FREAKING TIME THERE!! In the Rambo movies he keeps coming back for more and more and more. Now, that wont be me. I decided to re-tour some of the taco trucks on mintys uye. I opted for 3 tacos with tripas, lengua, and al pastor without onions. What i got was a plate with 3 bare tacos missing cilantro and lightly drizzled with sauce. They also skimped on the cucumber and radishes. The tripas taco was way too burned and just tasted bad. I also wasnt impressed with the al pastor that lacked that smoky flavor and the lengua taco was just missing flavor even with the green sauce. I dont think it helped when the cook was on the phone yelling the whole while he was making my order and the guy who took my order was also on the phone. read more

A few weeks ago I was out of town on a job and one of the people I was working with, who lived in my neighborhood, mentioned he was a big fan of a couple taco trucks in the area. I hadnt been to any because none of them seem to keep a very regular schedule, or at least they arent around when Im looking for them for the most part. So I jotted them down and decided I would have a go at them. The first place he mentioned wasnt very good. The second place was Rambo's Tacos. I just went there and had to write it up right away. As many of you know I am a stickler for quality, and in Mexican food, I expect refried beans, none of that whole bean business. I decided to keep it simple for a first time order, a chicken burrito. Standard ingredients: Meat, rice, refried beans, onions and cilantro, and of course, salsa. The chicken was somewhere in between Pollo Asado and shredded chicken, and it was moist, not dry, so that was a good surprise. But it also had decent flavor, which a lot of places dont take into consideration. Best of all, they gave me what I asked, no mistakes in the order, the burrito wasnt over stuffed with rice, and the beans were great. I asked for mild salsa, because I was made to think that they put the salsa on for you (no outside salsa bar) which a real Mexican food fan prefers putting it on one bite at a time... But anyways they gave it to me separately, turned out to be salsa verde. I prefer salsa roja, but this was pretty tasty just the same. Next time I'll try the carne asada! read more

IMO, best taco truck in Eagle Rock! That red sauce... dang. Spicy. It runs down to the bottom of your burrito while you're eating it, so the last few bites will set your tongue on fire. But I love it so much that I kept coming back (masochistic?). Carne asada and el pastor are my go-to meats. You're not here for the friendly conversation, you're here to get a spicy, greasy burrito filled with meat, eat it, and leave (or leave and eat it). The tacos here are excellent. The typical tacos that everyone gets is the asada. While I on the other had get the tripas. The red salsa is the hottest out of all the taco trucks that I have been to. My mouth may be on fire while eating these tacos with the salsa but I still add more. Unfortunately they do have certain days where the red salsa is not that hot. read more

My husband's co-worker introduced us to Rambos and they have not disappointed! My husband gets tacos and I get a torta de lengua. The torta is bomb EVERY TIME. Tacos are delicious too. The red salsa is the best, spicy, pero esta bien buena. Very kind people. Definitely recommend!! read more

Rambo's gave me one of my most memorable birthdays ever. So a couple of my friends decided to get me a birthday cake. And not just some loser normal cake, but a MAN's cake. That's right: a cake made from 20 tacos, a quesadilla, a torta, and a burrito. It was so beautiful. It even had candles in it! But the story of their ordeal in getting said cake is even more extraordinary. They got there a little past 12am on Sunday night - or Monday morning for all you picky people - and the truck was already gone! They close early Sunday through Thursday, at 12. (Friday and Saturday, they're open until whenever they feel like leaving, which is usually around 2-3am) So anyway, they spot the truck filling up at a nearby gas station. And they're thinking, "oh noes we're too late!" So they go to the gas station, and inside the station's food mart are the Rambo's guys we love so much (and henceforth called the Rambos in this review). And they're already being hounded by other people! "I'll give you $10 for a burrito!" "Leo's sucks!" "I'm so hungry and still drunk!" And they were all turned down. "Sorry, we're closed. We already cleaned the grill." One by one, the Rambo's fans left hungry and unsatiated, sick at the thought that they might have to resort to Leo's for the night. But my friends would not give up so easily. They followed the Rambos out to the truck, pleading with the Rambos that it was their friend's birthday, that their friend is a rambo's fanatic, that they'd buy like $60 worth of stuff. And the Rambos finally gave in, at least halfway. They offered to sell the carne asada, tortillas, onions, cilantro, tortas, and queso so that my friends can take it and microwave it at home. Well, a microwaved Rambo's taco is still better than Leo's, right? So my friends agreed, and they started giving their order. So excluding the ingredients for my cake, the 4 of them ordered a lot of food for themselves. And I think it came out to way over $60. And the Rambos, being so awesome, fired up the grill again! That's right, the grill they shut down and cleaned up for the night! So we were left with delicious, authentic, perfectly grilled tacos, tortas, burritos, and quesadillas. I had to write a new review of this place because so much has changed since my old one. PRICE: Tacos are now 1.25 and all other things are 4.50. Because of this, I'm spending 7-9$ a night at a taco truck. JOSE: Jose was the short guy with the backwards cap on. He doesn't speak English so he was always cooking in the back. Well, anyways, he's gone to work at a different truck. The sad thing is that Jose always made the perfect TRIPAS. It was always a little crispy on the outside and nice and squishy on the inside. Now, it's usually extra crunchy all the way through since these new guys are cooking it too long. This was the saddest things to happen since the price raise in 2007. The good news however is that these new guys put in a lot more meat in the tacos and burritos. They also evenly distribute the meat throughout the quesadillas. (Jose used to pack it in the middle). They also wrap the tortas differently so that it keeps falling apart, but that's no biggy. Nevertheless, this place is still the best in regards to overall taste. Its hot sauce is #1 in my book. #2 is La Estrella. #3 is King Taco/El Taurino (they use the same hot sauce). There are still only a few things in the world that are yummier than a Torta Tripas. I understand that La Estrella is cheaper, gives more meat, and has better carne asada. However, that place doesn't even have Tripas, or tortas and quesadillas. And don't even compare Rambos with Freddy's. That's like comparing tacos in Mexico with Baja Fresh. Here is the ranking of taco trucks in Eagle Rock. I've been to all of them multiple times, so this should be pretty legit for you (unless you're a gringo). 1. Rambos - Best tripas, best sauce, best taste 2. La Estrella - Great tacos, burritos, no tripas, excellent sauce 3. El Pique - Has all the meats and everything is good (except sauce) 4. Durangos - Their meat sucks, but they have mariscos (seafood) 5. El S------ - I forgot the name. They take Leo's spot on Mondays. Not bad 6. Sonia's - Cheapest in Eagle Rock. All meat burrito: 4.75 7. Freddy's - Tastes like Baja Fresh. Good deals 8. Leo's - Horrible everything. There's always a line of gringos from Occi (noobs) THE GOOD: Excellent tripas, hot sauce, tortas, best taco truck in Eagle Rock THE BAD: Expensive (for a taco truck). Inconsistent tripas, Pollo THE UGLY: Order some lengua and watch them pull out the tongue and chop it up. That thing is HUGE. C'mon guys! are you serious?? i went over to Rambos last night with my roomate to try the famous tripas tacos that everyone is ranting and raving over and i have to say that they were below average. I was expecting a perfect balance of crispy and chewy consistency but all we got was mush! plus the kid at the window was freakin rude! he was like: Kid: wat doo you wan!!!?? The prices have gone up. Tacos are now $1.25. I had a carnitas taco and the damn thing was so spicy that I took one bite and knew I could not finish it. If I did, it would be a hazard to my health (as if eating 6 other tacos didn't already put me at risk for heart disease). I can't imagine those who added extra hot sauce. Yow! Rambo's Tacos are actually...ok! When I was at Leo's last time, there was no one at Rambo's, which made me think that their food must be horrible. I enjoyed their pollo soft taco, but then again, maybe it's because I couldn't handle their hot sauce in the carne asada soft taco...I have to try their Tripas the next time. I swear that I could not feel my lips for the next hour. I tried to be the tough one, I tried to rough it out, y'know? Eat AROUND the salsa. But that taco is a vicious mo fo. I don't even like spicy food, why did I do that? I couldn't even taste anything, my mouf was burning so bad. I give it 3 stars because I don't like spicy foods. I don't eat any other meat besides al pastor and carne asada, so maybe I haven't tried their best tacos yet.. but their asada is just ..... a disappointment. I was in the area so I stopped by, but I think ill just go to the taco trucks in LA from now. And the tacos are not worth $1.40... This is currently my favorite Taco Truck in LA. I know people complain that they don't have guac but I think their tacos and burritos are so delicious that you don't need that extra condiment. If you want guac, you can always walk to Leo's Tacos (which is half a block behind Rambo's truck) and get a taco for the guac. I'm in love with the Pure Carne Burrito. I'm a big meat eater and I really like their meat here. The beef is no angus beef, but it's well marinated and it's cut in the pieces small enough to chew, but not too small like ground beef. I usually get it with onions and cilantra, and a side of the green sause, lime, and onion. The tacos are perfect for ending a heavy drinking night. The grease and the flavor will make the night complete! read more
