As a lighthouse snob, I was initially displeased with the idea of a lighthouse being located in a…read morekid-friendly park. However, it works in this instance. It helps that the lighthouse is located on a hill which distances it from the replicas of pirate ships, huts, and caves. There's plenty to love and hate about this park. I went to the park on a Tuesday, I did not see any other guests while I was there. This may be why there was no one available to collect my admission at the entrance for about 15 minutes. Another staff member sat on his cart waiting at the entrance and appeared to radio for help. This would have been okay except I really needed a restroom pit stop after the drive. The admissions clerk spoke English which was not necessary but helpful. There are restrooms by the lighthouse and by the cafe. The bathroom was clean, but there was no soap. Since there were no other customers, I was able to just relax for over an hour just taking in the ocean views and enjoying the breeze. For solo female travelers during the week, this feels safer than some of the isolated beaches nearby (I could just be overcautious). The lighthouse appears to be well-kept. The small museum was open inside the lighthouse, but there wasn't an option to climb the lighthouse. Not sure if they offer this option on the weekends though. I mainly stopped for the lighthouse, but since I was there, I checked the rest of the park out. The area with the huts was cool and provided historical info. However, the cave could use some major improvement. It's almost too dark. If it's going to be that dark, the signs with historical info need to be illuminated properly. The fish tanks need cleaning!!! Also, only one door was open. When I reached the end of the cave, that door was locked. This seems like a fire hazard. Two exits need to be open whenever the exhibit is open. Just imagine the chaos that could ensure on busier days when families are there and there is a fire or emergency. The cave, the "gift shop," and the long wait for admission to be collected caused the loss of 2 stars. I do love that the lighthouse is well maintained since it is in this park especially since 6 out of 15 lighthouses in PR are in dire need of restoration. Although it gets a 3 star rating, I would definitely return for just the ocean views and the lighthouse.

Me…read moredijeron que la persona que daba los tours estaba de almuerzo y regresaba en poco más de una hora. Me fui a pasear para darles tiempo y regresé más tarde cuando supone hubiese gente (a eso de las 1:30pm). Estaba un grupo recogiendo machinas y cosas de una feria que hubo durante el fin de semana anterior. Paseé por los predios a ver si veía a alguien y pues también mire y tomé fotos. Pero no encontré a nadie del personal. Es como si sabían que iba pero cuando llegué ya no había nadie? Me habían dicho por teléfono que el lugar estaba cerrado para renovaciones y que aún así me podían dar el tour y la información histórica desde el balcón. Mi rating por lo tanto refleja el lugar, no el personal ni el tour (que no obtuve). Desde chiquita pasaba por la #2 viendo el Palacete por la ventana del carro y siempre me daba curiosidad saber la historia del lugar. Al menos llegué a visitar el lugar en persona después de tantos años pasando y viéndolo de lejitos. A ver si en otra ocasión podré obtener el tour, mientras, quedo feliz leyendo la historia del lugar en Wiki o algo así. Cool.

Las ruinas pertenecen al primer faro construido en Aguadilla, que desde el 1889, formó parte del…read moresistema de seguridad para proteger la entrada por el Canal de la Mona. Luego del gran terremoto de 1918, la torre y paredes del faro recibieron daños. Eventualmente, el faro fue abandonado y se construyó otro muy cerca de donde estaba el original. Se tiene acceso por la Carr. #107 Norte. A la izquierda, cuando se llega al Borinquen Golf Club, hay un camino que atraviesa el campo y que termina en las ruinas. Al llegar, no hay mucho que ver. La playa es linda, pero hay muchas rocas y el oleaje hace de ella un lugar peligroso para bañistas. Solo hay parte de unas paredes de piedra y ladrillos y los cimientos de lo que fue la torre. Aun así, este lugar tiene su encanto. Tengo fascinación por los faros, incluso por sus ruinas, así que estar allí para mí fue tremenda experiencia. La vista del Océano Atlántico es espectacular y con las ruinas en un primer plano, es un lugar perfecto para tomar buenas fotos. Así que para los aficionados a la fotografía o para los amantes de los faros, es un lugar perfecto.

This spot provides a spectacular view of the ocean and part of the Isabela coastline. You can even see the Tunnel Guajataca, which is also a nice attraction. The La Bandera Food Truck is located here, so you can enjoy some empanadillas or seafood cup while admiring the view. There is also a local vendor selling some arts and crafts. Note that parking is limited. Also, the restroom is controlled by the food truck. You have to ask them for the key.
