On May 14, 2021 my wife and I were en route to the Texas hill country town of Wimberley for a long…read moreweekend. About 15 minutes away from Lampasas the serpentine belt on our car broke. We searched Google for an auto repair shop in Lampasas and randomly picked L&H Automotive. I was so glad we chose that shop. We called and told them that we were waiting for our tow to show up and we'd be there as soon as we could. We arrived at 5:05 p.m. on a Friday and I'm sure everyone was ready to go home and start the weekend. I can't tell you how impressed I was that three or four guys stayed and worked on our car for over two and a half hours. The repair, while temporary, allowed us to make our vacation rental and get back home to Benbrook TX. This was not the easy repair you would want to see after closing hours. Had they not done this we would have had to stay in Lampasas all weekend, lose our cabin rental which was non-refundable and a good part of Monday. The courtesy and respect they showed my wife and I is something that we will never forget. While no one likes it when their car breaks down, and especially knowing what is involved to getting the A/C compressor and related parts of the system back up and running. We considered ourselves very blessed to have come across this amazing group of guys. It's no wonder Jay was voted best mechanic of Lampasas county for 2021. If we lived in this great community I know where I would be taking our autos for servicing and repair. You guys rock, and Sandy the dog does too.

I went here for an altenator replacement. Six and a half hour later they finally got the parts but…read moretold me I would have to pay $151 for a front end alignment because they needed to remove the rack and pinion assembly. They had a cheezy print out that said right hand drive below the picture. Fine if we were in Europe. They then recanted the alignment and finally did the work. A day and a half for a 3 hour tops job. They finally opened the hood to do the work and needed to disconnect some radiator hoses to do the work. What is so abysmal is that they returned my car to me with the radiator 4 quarts low and didn't say a word about it. They also left the did not reattatch the top shroud. Just left it loose in the engine compartment. Had I not checked the fluid before going to Temple I would of ended up with a burned out motor and or disable on the expressway. So if you are in need of some new muffler bearings go here. Otherwise I suggest you stay away and seek out a mechanic that knows what he is doing.

After reading other reviews, I feel this review to be relevant. My truck broke down right by this…read moreshop. It wasn't drivable. Chris looked under the hood, and noticed the serpentine belt was off and shredded. I asked if he had one there he said "nope, but I can get one delivered." I was feeling hopeful. After some NY rust mentions, and the skid plate underneath conversation, I said, "don't worry about the skid plate, toss it in the back of the truck, I'll have it redrilled and back on." He said "okay.' Didn't take too long and he said, "It's all done." I responded, "really? I'm all set? good to go on my overlanding weekend trip 2 hours away good?" He said, "yeah!" Okie doke! I paid him the $187 and some change and went on my way South. The next day, Thursday the 16th of April, I didn't go to far from camp. However, Friday was overlanding day. Was only out about 2 hours and the exact same issues happened. I knew not to push it and got off the side of the backroad as best I could. Immediately looked up a mobile mechanic. Service fee alone to just show up was $200. I had no choice. Solo, female, traveler....not best to be sitting roadside! The mechanic shows up, immediately looks and sees the serpentine belt at the bottom. I said, "yes, I noticed as well. I just had it replaced less than 48 hours ago at Lampasas Tire & Auto. The mechanic said, "Yes, I know the place." After he inspected the belt, he said it wasn't the correct belt. Even though it was ripped in places, not shredded like the old one, you could see it seemed to be a 5 ribbed belt, that was put on a 7 ribbed pulley. Once the mechanic returned with the correct belt, it was even more evident that the belt was way off! Thickness was totally off as well. All with hand tools, on the roadside, I was fixed up in less time than this terrible "chop shop"! I gave Chris the opportunity to do the right thing, reimburse me for his bill along with the mobile mechanic's bill. He chose to phone me back 5 hours later and said he would not be reimbursing a dime, and his warranty was only if I brought it back to his shop; like that was an option! Luckily, I had him on speaker when he phoned, the room heard him become defensive, combative, and very nasty with me on the phone. I just wanted to ask a question, he gave me no opportunity. I said, "okay, so I guess I will have to take this to the next level." He really got angry then and said, "OOOOHHHH you gonna take me to court then?! Great! See ya in court!" I simply replied, "you have a nice evening now." and disconnected the call. Thankfully, the mobile mechanic said he'd be more than happy to verify to court or anyone about the mistake. This is just the beginning.....and please, do not go here! My favorite mechanic was too far back in Kempner :-(
