Another great Fazio course! The layout and course conditions were top-notch from start to finish. One of the standout touches? Free tacos at the turn -- such a fun and unexpected service perk that really hit the spot. We had several meals at the clubhouse during our stay, and overall the food was solid and the cocktails definitely delivered. That said, during peak times, service can slow down quite a bit -- something to keep in mind if you're on a tight schedule. We booked the stay & play package and made the most of it. By the fourth round (thanks to the free replays), we really got to know the course well. If you're striking it well off the tee and can read the greens, there are definitely scoring opportunities. But when the wind picks up, it adds a serious layer of difficulty -- so adjust expectations accordingly. All in all, a memorable trip and a course I'd absolutely recommend if you haven't played it yet. read more

I finally made it back out to Rams Hill Golf Club. I've visited a few times recently, but only for lunch and to enjoy the great atmosphere--this time, I was excited to get back on the course. My son flew in from Dallas, Texas for his birthday, and playing this beautiful desert layout was at the top of his list. One of the perks that sealed the deal was Rams Hill's generous birthday offer--free play after 12pm. A classy gesture from a course that's long been one of my favorites in Southern California. The only downside? It wasn't my birthday. With rates having climbed significantly, I did my best to convince my son to consider a more affordable option--maybe even something closer to home--but he held firm. He knew this course had always been high on my list, and he wanted to experience it for himself. As always, we were greeted with friendly smiles upon arrival. We warmed up on the range and soon met our starter, Don, who got us going. He mentioned the cart service running throughout the round and also let us in on a great surprise--complimentary street-style tacos on the 14th. That definitely raised some excitement. This course truly is a visual treat. The tee boxes were tidy, and the fairways--at least from the tee--looked lush and inviting. However, it didn't take long to notice something was off. Walking up to the first green, I couldn't help but say, "Yikes." The surface lacked the smoothness and softness I'd come to expect from past rounds here. I stayed optimistic, hoping it was just an isolated issue. Unfortunately, while the greens improved slightly as we went on, the fairways told a different story. Several holes had patchy or thin lies, and in some areas, it felt like we were hitting off very little grass at all. I found myself increasingly frustrated--not just because I had talked the course up so much to my son, but also because of the price point. When you're paying a premium, it's fair to expect conditions that match. On a positive note, the tacos at the 14th were excellent and a fun touch. However, we never saw the beverage cart for the entire round, which was surprising given it had been mentioned at the start. All in all, Rams Hill still holds a special place for me, but this visit was a letdown compared to past experiences. For now, it may come off my "must-play" recommendation list--at least until either the conditions improve or the pricing better reflects the current state of the course. read more

Rams Hill - Hole #9 - Golf Near Me - Borrego Springs, California

I've been wanting to play Rams Hill for as long as I've been golfing, and finally made the 2-hour trip from San Diego -- let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Everything lined up perfectly: the timing, the partner, and the season. This course is no joke -- it's challenging from start to finish. Set right in the desert, you're surrounded by stunning mountain views from every angle. The creeks, dramatic bunkers, rolling fairways, and well-positioned tee boxes make for an incredible layout. Conditions were top-notch during our round. The partners we played with said the grass before the remodel was even more plush, but to me, it was already in amazing shape. Be prepared for the elements -- the heat and wind were real! The wind definitely gobbled a lot of my better shots. That said, this was easily one of my favorite golf experiences so far as a rookie golfer. The property is beautiful with surrounding gated communities that make the area feel like a hidden gem. The perks were great too: complimentary range balls, GPS-equipped carts with ice, and don't sleep on the free tacos at the Ram Shack around hole 12 -- a must-stop! I'll definitely be back. Loved this course, loved the vibe, and the staff was awesome. Can't wait for round two! read more

Amazing golf course in dessert! It's a bit of a drive, but well worth it. It does get hot, and unexpectedly for me quite humid. 10am tee time 90F, and eventually hit 115 . The great staff along with cold towels, frozen grapes, shaved ice, and waters kept me going. Great service. Greens were smooth. Picturesque holes. Clean carts with gps showing yardage. Allowed for a much needed break for lunch after 9th hole this day. We were 2x foursome. They slotted us back in at the perfect time, no one behind us. Staff wiped down our clubs when we were done. Rams Hill is an absolute gem. The course is immaculate, and the unlimited replay, free tacos, and range balls make it a killer value. It was a hot day, but they kept us cool with frozen grapes, shaved ice, and water stations throughout the course such a nice touch. Lunch at the clubhouse was decent (the Hole-in-One burger could use some sauce), but the overall experience was amazing. The course is challenging it definitely ate our group alive but we had a blast. The drive is long, but 100% worth it. Can't wait to go back! read more

Rams Hill is one of the purest courses out there and well worth the drive to Borrego Springs. A Tom Fazio design, the course shows off his signature giant fairways and lightning fast greens with fluffy fairways. Beware of the false fronts! The pro shop is super friendly and helpful with great merchandise. Not to mention the free tacos at the turn and a free cookie to end your round as well! read more

Course was in excellent condition. Very unique and difficult due to lightning fast greens and fairways. Layout features several greens that are surrounded by embankments - think a huge bowl. As a result, bank shot approaches are often the best approach. Only the greens are faster than the fairways, on some downhill holes you can even putt your approach shot from 100 yards. Course is not overly long and fairways are generally very wide. A good approach and short game are essential to score well here. Top notch facilities and service. read more

If you haven't, you must! It is worth the extra drive from the Palm Springs area to experience this remote gem of a course. Or better, take advantage of their stay and play packages for a fuller experience. The golf is perfect, the hospitality is the best I've experienced at ANY public golf course, the food is delicious (free tacos and shave ice on course!), and the remote setting really allows you to relax. I put it easily in my top 10 of all public courses in Ca, and I've played them all. read more

This golf course is way over rated. So much to say. The design of the course is flawed in so many ways. Just a couple of points. A very large number of greens are positioned in a bowl such that the cart path is a full story to a story and a half above the surface. If you are a mountain goat you will do well but it's ridiculous. The greens are hard as a rock so don't expect to hold any shot into the green. Last you should know from the very fact they tell you the expected pace of play is 4.5 hours that it's a mess. We played twice and it took five hours both times. ( a Monday and a Tuesday). No Marshall to move the slow groups. I suggest you save yourself the trip because it's not close To anything and it's not worth it. read more

I want to give this course a 1 because of the customer service. I am giving it a 2 because the golf conditions were solid. First off I called and asked if the course itself is dog friendly. It's not, they're lying. I showed up and said kindly to the manager or whoever. Btw I have my dog. And his response was "is it well trained?" Light hearted I said "she's great" then dead face says "don't care". And then says "better keep it in the cart". Again light hearted " don't worry I will". Then on the tee box first hole. I grab my driver. My dog, leashed and connected to the cart gets out on cart path. Instantly on radio to starter "tell him he better keep that dog in the cart." Not a moment to wait. Just accusation and threatening. This doesn't include the incredibly rude phone call I got speaking to the same person earlier asking about my tee time. Then after the round I tried to go through the pro shop before seeing it was closed. Same guy saw me and angrily looked at me and signalled with his hand across his neck closed. No smile or apologies. Just annoyed at my not understanding. Going forward just don't allow dogs. Don't bring your dogs, don't expect kindness or respectful tone. Expect a pretty golf course that plays slow. But don't come here expecting to be treated with respect. It's just a bummer for what could have been. read more

We had a group of 8 come down from Indian Wells a few weeks ago. Totally worth the drive! The course was in great condition, the golf staff was friendly, and who wouldn't love free tacos at the turn and a cookie at the end! Beware: greens are tricky -- be sure and look at the GPS map of the green on your approach shot! Will definitely play again next year. read more

This course is a must play, a real gem! The greens complexes are second to none. They were running 11 plus the 2 days we played. My only complaint is that the extremely tight lies around the greens make it very difficult to chip. The surroundings are spectacular. We stayed on site and the accommodations were first rate. Get this course on your must play list NOW!!! The track is very fun and has some tough greens. I play alot in Palm Springs area and this course really stands out. I also loved the tee/ combos. Makes it very enjoyable to play with all of the options- and helps with pace. Greens were rolling at 11.5 when we played. We also ordered a breakfast burrito before teeing off and it was great! Definitely recommend for the early morning tee times. Also, the pro shop is beautiful, you get FREE tacos at the Ramshack, and all the staff are great. I absolutely loved the options in the pro shop! It's a bit out of the way from a city- busy most of the best courses are anyways. A great remote SoCal course that everyone should visit. read more

Rams Hill is AWESOME! Have wanted to get out there to Borrego to play and finally went last Saturday. It was a really busy day, but the service on/off the course was GREAT. Greens were 11.5! They were super fast, but pure. Course was in GREAT shape and I definitely want to go back and play again soon. Went into the restaurant at the end of the day and had their bacon burger with fries. Came out perfect medium-rare with a "logo bun". :) It was a great way to end a fantastic day. Drove from Oceanside, so I was tired after I got home. Thinking about renting one of their homes next time for a few nights and playing 2 plus days. I would HIGHLY recommend Rams Hill! read more

Rams Hill was once a great course. As of Mar 2025, and probably since they replaced their fairways and greens, it is not a great course. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY GOING HERE. Balls do not stay on fairways or greens. A drive will roll 50-70 yards, it's difficult to calculate landing yardage and where the ball will end up for the second shot. If the fairway has a left or right slope it will roll off. The fairways are as hard as marble. Greens are no better. When I golfed there on 3-1-25 there was not one single divot from players ahead of me nor did my foursome make any divots. They are just too hard. As a result, balls just roll right off. And since the fairways are cut short and are hard, we saw balls roll off the green and then roll another 30-40 yards or more down the fairway. What a waste of time. Hopefully it will improve. read more

Breathtaking views of majestic mountains at a upscale golf course. The course is well Maintained. Employees are helpful, maybe at times a bit too eager to help and coach, but good service. Practice area is equipped with pro v one practice balls, and a small putting practice area. The grass is a bit long on the tee offs, and first cut were high, but everything was plush. Greens were rolling at 11.5. Lots of sand traps, and narrow fairways make for a challenging fun round. read more

Played the Ram's Hill yesterday. First time playing Ram's Hill, definitely not the last. Golfweek has Ram's Hill rated #4 in California, just behind Spyglass Hill and above Torrey Pines South and Rustic Canyon. That seems about right to me, when though Rustic Canyon is my all time favorite golf course. Service - 10 Driving Range - 8 Layout - 10 Conditions - 9 Fun Factor - 10 Challenge - 8 Overall - 9 This course is simply incredible. I love smart, fun courses and that's the heart of Ram's Hill. The service, carts, clubhouse, etc. are all fantastic, but the course is the star of this show so I'm skipping those things, which I rarely do. The greens were running at 11.5 the day I played and they rolled like a billiard table. Breaks are subtle but grain is not a major factor thankfully. Bunkers are well placed and penal to gobble up errant shots. Since virtually every hole offers multiple ways to play it along the risk reward scale, you can choose to challenge or avoid them. Once you've navigated to your approach shot, the fun begins. Even though this a Tom Fazio course, the greens feel like Gil Hanse had a hand in them, meaning you often can use slopes and green complexes to be creative. Again, you have multiple options to choose from on most every approach shot. This is top shelf and exactly what I love in a golf course. The only disappointment for me was green receptivity, which I believe was intentional to force you into being creative with those slopes and truly punish you for taking the wrong lines into the green. In summary, this course trades ocean views for mountain views, and is as balanced a course for challenge/fun as you will find. I can't recommend it enough. It's worth every minute of the drive there, and I'll find an excuse to get back and play it again ASAP. read more

Very disappointed in the overall course conditions, fairways had bald spots, over watered and balls are plugging in the fairways. The greens have patches all over them which effect playing conditions. Plus the 5 hour round was not acceptable on a Tuesday. I don't plan on visiting Rams Hills after the long drive, long round of golf. This is not a top 100 course in America.....course conditions well below par for o my being open a month. read more

Played my second round today and still dissappointed. First round was October/November timeframe and was in horrible shape compared to previous seasons. Told me it was the disease that got to them and said as the weather heats up it should get better. Its not better. Greens aren't bad, but again, have been way better in previous years, Tee Boxes are good, but several holes have large bare/dirt spots in the middle of the fairway in landing spots (like they have mentioned in other posts). Rates are pretty high for the course in its current condition. Not coming back this season and will try again in the Fall. Ram's, I hope you can get it back in to shape for next season, its was hard to get excited to play this course today. Bummed read more
