They are so sweet to us we fed them (I diced apples in pieces) throw the core in the wild plants (grass, trees etc) according to Todd the store manager told us. Snacks can be bought from the store to feed two burros. We arrived sat we fed them twice on Saturday we fed them 3 times. Sunday we fed them twice before we left - we sure miss them so much you can just stop by and feed them too. We like our pink cottage. We like to come back again!! Christmas sounds good! Hmm

I've visited Banner Ranch many times while a friend rented one of the tiny homes, and it has become…read moreone of my favorite nearby places to unplug and reset. Even though I only stayed inside one unit, the property clearly offers several themed rentals, each with its own character and charm. The setting itself is the real highlight -- peaceful, open, and wonderfully quiet. It's the kind of place you go when you need your brain to slow down. I often stopped by just to sit in the sun, walk the grounds, and enjoy the unexpected bonus... real wild turkeys roaming around. Not decorative -- actual turkeys -- which somehow adds perfectly to the rustic atmosphere. There's also an onsite store (with limited hours, so plan ahead) offering food and drinks. Downstairs is a small thrift shop in what used to be an old saloon -- easily one of the most unique parts of the property and fun to browse. The covered wagon accommodations look especially fun and are on my list for a future stay when I want a quiet escape close to home. Banner Ranch isn't flashy -- it's calm, simple, and restorative. If you're looking for peace, sunshine, and a place to decompress, this is a solid choice. If I could take off half a star I would only because of the limited store hours...however, lets be real....I wasn't there to shop.

Orchard Hill popped up while I was researching boutique stays in Julian, and it ended up being the…read moreperfect find. The moment you arrive, it feels like you've stepped into a whole new world -- calm, cozy, aesthetic, and perched on a beautiful orchard hillside. Fresh coffee, lovely cocktails, baked goods, and peaceful views everywhere you look. Truly magical. The property is beautifully maintained with tons of little areas to explore. You can wander the grounds, stargaze, sip your morning coffee or evening cocktail, play lawn games, or just enjoy the quiet seclusion -- all while still being walking distance to town. I booked the Overlook 3 room and it was hands‑down the best choice. It's the closest room to town (about a 3‑minute walk down the hill), a corner unit for extra privacy, and it has a whirlpool tub with jets that feels like your own mini hot tub. The private deck is spacious, tucked away, and has a gorgeous view. Each cottage room has its own unique charm and style -- ours gave cozy cottage/grandma vibes in the sweetest way. High ceilings, tons of natural light, and a comfy king bed made it feel extra relaxing. Bonus: The cottage rooms are dog friendly, which is such a huge plus for anyone traveling with pups. Check‑in was easy and on time, and parking was simple with just a short walk to the room. I also loved their happy hour, where they serve a complimentary charcuterie/grazing board -- such a thoughtful touch. Another highlight: the picnic‑style breakfast baskets delivered to your room each morning. They come with a handwritten note, crisp Julian apples, amazing coffee, and a delicious baked good. The perfect way to ease into the day. The reception area is also worth mentioning -- it has a cozy lounge space with plenty of seating, and the bar is located right inside. It's the perfect spot to unwind or even catch a World Cup match if you're visiting during the season. At night, sit outside and look up -- the stars are insanely bright. The grounds are beautiful to wander: art pieces, a little stream, tons of trees, and quiet sitting nooks everywhere. They're currently finishing a new sauna + hot/cold plunge deck, and from the sneak peek I saw, it looks incredible. I'm honestly bummed I missed it, but it just means I'll definitely be coming back.

While the room is still beautiful, we noticed several changes that made this stay feel less special than before. In previous visits, breakfast was served in the main house with beautiful views, which was always something we looked forward to. This time, breakfast consisted of two muffins and a thermos delivered to the room, which felt like a significant downgrade from the experience we had come to expect. There were also small boutique touches that seem to be missing now. In the past, there were little cookies by the coffee maker and other thoughtful treats that added to the charm of the stay. While these may seem like small details, they are part of what justified the price point and made the experience feel unique and memorable. Overall, the property is still lovely, but many of the personalized touches and amenities that once made it feel like a true boutique experience no longer seem to be there, which was disappointing

It was exactly what we were looking for: casually elegant, outdoors and as charming as the rest of Julian is. The outdoor courtyard accommodated 45 guests but could likely fit a few more. We went with a custom package/menu that included: - A spread of breakfast goodies (quiche, sausage/bacon, the fluffiest biscuits I've ever had, local jams, waffles, granola parfaits) - Drinks (coffee, tea, mimosas) - Tables, chairs, linens - Tableware, flatware, glassware and decor Bonus: Sherry is also an amazing florist. She did all the florals for our wedding, plus the arrangements in this photo that we used at our welcome dinner and then repurposed at the brunch. Having the brunch at Oakwood Creek was the perfect way to wrap up our wedding weekend, and we are grateful to Sherry and Mary Ann for their help taking care of all the details!

The venue is almost entirely gravel, so I would not recommend high heels or any kind of extreme footwear here. They provided cornhole, a photo room, an indoor space, rooms for the bride/bridesmaids and groom/groomsmen to get ready and hang out in. There was one restroom outside and one inside. On the day of the event, there was no assistance from the venue or coordinator with setup of the tables, decorations, etc. Please plan to have people there early to decorate/setup/put out plates and silverware/etc. The wedding ultimately happened without issue. We received multiple comments from guests about how nice the venue was. I wasn't incredibly involved with the planning process. From what I've heard, there were some flower arrangements that were spoken about but weren't seen, and I believe there were supposed to be people there to assist with setup but there were not. Those things are the reason for the 4 star review. I would check and double check and plan to have your own help on the day of your event. Thank you Oakwood Creek for the fantastic evening!
