From the outside it looks massive, so when you walk in it can feel a bit more compact than expected, but that is because there are so many different rooms and dedicated spaces instead of one large open area. Each section feels purposeful, which I really liked. The staff were all very kind, and there is a lot more here than just books. There are separate areas for magazines, media, and reading spaces, along with a makerspace that includes things like a 3D printer, a laser engraver, and other equipment that would normally be very expensive to access. Having that available for free is a huge plus. The building itself is beautiful, with a lot of marble and multiple floors that make it feel historic and well maintained. It is a great place to study or just spend some time, and I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are ever in St. Paul.

Waitstaff circulated with hors d'oeuvres as we waited in the receiving line, keeping everyone engaged. I loved the library theme, from the Save The Date library book cards to the tables identified by famous authors. We were seated at Dickens, our dinner preferences printed out on beautiful bookmarks. The three-story ceilings are reached by massive bookshelves with upstairs hallways for reaching those high books. The flowers were gorgeous and organic and the catered food was delicious from salad to dessert. It's not an inexpensive venue, but it is warm and intimate once you get here. We ran into detours, slow trains, and closed roads so we had our Uber let us out about a 1/4 mile away because we were about to be late. We literally made it in as the ceremony started. Road construction, closed roads, detours, and slow freight trains don't show up on your travel map!

As a stop to see something beautiful--it's a must if you're in this city.

Also, it has family storytimes every week which includes songs as well as book reading too. It is definitely a treasure to find many new authors that adults can share with their children too. This library also has the best selection of lucky day books and I always find something new that I'm eager to read! They also are conveniently located right off of the expressway and they have a parking lot. Unfortunately the parking lot is usually super busy and you can only stay an hour but that usually isn't a problem for me because I am normally just running in to pick up my holds. They also have pretty long hours so I can get there after work or on a weekend. In general, I think the library system is one of the most incredible gifts that the world has created. I love the sharing of resources and the opportunity for all people to have places to go to gain access to information. This library and it's staff are top notch!

I've been here several times, but interestingly, I've only been to one room - the community room. Arlington Hills has done a great job of providing community events, workshops, speakers, readings, etc. Challenges: The parking lot is limited, so I've had to park on the street either on the other side of the park or on the other side of Payne Avenue. Unfortunately, there isn't really a cross walk and Payne Avenue can get busy so it's not recommended if you have small children with you. Whether you're stopping in to check out a book, grab a CD or a movie, hop on a computer, book a private study room, or explore the kids' area, this place really does have it all. There's plenty to entertain and for children to learn and enjoy. We did a scavenger hunt and earned a hand stamp. They have an outdoor space for warmer weather that you can enter from the children's area. They even have a very cool peg light up board kind of like light brite. I also couldn't believe their selection of books! Wow! For adults they even have certain popular books you can rent for a certain amount each day which entices you to bring back as soon as you're done.
