Ramsey Springs General Store is owned and operated by some of the nicest folks you would want to meet and do business with--on that they can't be beat. It is located on MS 15 deep in the forest about 35 minutes north of D'Iberville and north of Red Creek and the Ramsey Springs marker; or about 10 minutes south of MS 26 if traveling to or fro Wiggins or Lucedale. King Bee Road is a landmark crossroad nearby on the 15. In the summer and fall they also host rummage sales for the community and everyone far and wide comes to sell their junktiques. As you can imagine by its namesake the store has just about everything from fishing supplies and bait, to feed and hot food from the "deli" (grill). This business is basically a small independent convenience store with ambitions of having fuel in the future at this rural serving outpost. But for now you can get a few supplies of what you need at prices that are pretty typical for this genre store in said location. That being said, although the store offerings are somewhat pricey the deli prices are a bit better. We were excited to see that a hamburger would only set you back $4.25 and a 6" Cuban $6. They told me they were busy and it would take about 30 minutes. I can see why most folks call their orders in as I was the only one waiting on mine. The TV helped. My ticket was added to the other five hanging. It actually took 40 minutes to receive my order after being placed. The average ticket que was about 5 hanging while I was there. Two workers made the order. Once I received it we hit the road and did not stay to eat at a single family style table. The hamburger was missing lettuce and they put on the mayo I had asked them to delete. The patty was certainly regular fresh ground beef seasoned OK at no more than a 4 ounce precook weight--maybe less. The meat wasn't outstanding in taste and a little crusty as the grill needed to be cleaned. Overall it was something one might make casually at home for the kids in size and taste from an aluminum skillet. The cost and quality were actually disappointing. I was stoked about the Cuban because you never see them much outside of southern Florida. Unfortunately the ham was cheap and salty deli package fare and the "pork loin" wasn't much better. They were both deboned, rolled, water added pre-slice product you could get at any Walmart. If you know Cubans this ain't one you will remember as authentic. The bread was nice and crispy pressed though, although it was French. Overall the food was subpar and really no different than the pricing scheme in the rest of the store. I know they have recently opened the deli (about a month or so at the time of writing this) and it takes time to find a groove. Perhaps we will try it again. But food quality will need to match pricing as well as speed. Like I said these are the kindest people but I review food, product, and service honestly--regardless of what I think about the management. read more
