Where do I begin to explain what an amazing experience we had at the Ranch. We arrived with a…read moregroup in total of 31 for a family reunion of sorts, and were all wowed by the service and special touches. Even from the pickup, I knew this experience would be special. I had a great conversation with Nora as she and some colleagues picked us up from Missoula and drove us to the Ranch. She talked about what makes this ranch so special and all the things she enjoys doing there. After a prior day of travel, it was also very nice to stretch out in the large vehicles provided (with water and snacks) and enjoy the amazing drive. We also had a side stop in Philipsburg where my two children really enjoyed the candy store! Once we made it to the Ranch, the wow's just kept coming. After dropping our bags, we had some of the best farm to table food I've ever had! The chefs take great pride in the food they are putting on the table the ingredients they select from. The service in the main dining hall (The Buckle Barn) is also top notch! Big shout outs to Storm and Claire! Storm took the time to get to know my kids and their VERY PICKY eating habits and had their specialty meals waiting for them for when we sat down to eat. Doing this simple task of getting a food for a child (that's not even on a kid's menu) really but my anxious mind at ease over the fear of "what will they eat this trip???". Side note: There was also a picnic lunch one day and without asking, Storm also had those sandwiches already packed in our lunch bag. Having two young children on a trip, it's often seen as parenting in a different location, not the case here. The Ranch provided camp for my two children with some of their younger cousin's every day, both morning and the afternoon so they could go and enjoy the Ranch at their pace. They got to fish, took UTV rides, made tie-dye t-shirts, mined for sapphires, and many arts and crafts, all in the beautiful surroundings of nature. This wonderful accommodation allowed my husband and I to have an actual vacation while away. We flyfished, went to the multiple gun ranges, sat by the creek, rode horses (request the guide Sierra, she's great!), did archery and ropes courses, and got to enjoy the time together. The accomidations were very lovely. Our large group took over 4 of the 5 cabins and each had their own charm. We watched the 4th of July fireworks from the comfort of the porch wrapped up in the cozy robe provided by the Ranch. Each night after a long day of activities and wonderful food either in the Buckle Barn or out by the Pebble Pond, you would come back to your bed turned down with a wonderful new product waiting for you provided by the Spa. I can't say enough good things about the time we had at the Ranch at Rock Creek and can only wish to one day return to the flowing waters of it's cool creek, and the stary sky's that light the way.

We flew into Missoula and spent one night at a downtown hotel before making our way to the ranch. From the moment the RC driver met us in the hotel lobby to the time we were dropped off at the airport we were impressed. The experiences at RC was totally awesome. Each time we would head out with our private guide we embarked on an unforgettable journey. We started off as a family doing the UTV tour of the ranch. Absolutely beautiful and serene time! One of my favorite experiences was the respite by the creeks edge. The staff had made a fire for us, placed some hammocks out, some games and books on our picnic bench. This was of course accompanied by a great bottle of wine and a charcuterie board! Our kids did some fly fishing while mom and I relaxed that afternoon. All of the facilities are top-notch and there is a ton of detail at every turn on this property. Some of our favorite shooting experiences were the rifle range and revolver shooting course with our guides Karson & Robert. The food at RC is an experience in itself and as good as you can imagine. We were lucky enough to meet the new chef Zach and he is truly passionate about his work! His first meal at the ranch was nothing short of amazing. Each dish was absolutely incredible & ultra tasty! The entire staff was so kind and attentive to us which we truly appreciated. Many thanks to Candace to making sure everything was perfect for us! Emily our breakfast server was so kind and thoughtful in the way she greeted & served us each morning! Brett was our dinner server most nights and he was always a joy to be around. He was also quite fast on the 5k Thanksgiving day but not quite as fast as Reed! Overall we had a some incredible expierences and plan to return to RC in the near future!

The staff made sure we had everything and anything we needed at all times. The food is amazing. The outdoor spaces are breathtaking. The story of the land and the people who have made it available to us are entertaining and educational. I definitely had to fight the urge to "run away" and stay for longer. If you have the opportunity to visit, take it. May you find as much love and gratitude as I did in this special place with these special people.

Quick word of advice: if you're heading east toward Butte, you'll need to drive through the whole town of Drummond to get back on the interstate. Parker's Restaurant sits conveniently just off the highway and boasts what might be the largest burger menu I've ever seen -- over 100 different options. The interior is eclectic, packed with nostalgic touches like vintage glass Coke bottles and quirky figurines. You can order from printed menus or from the massive chalkboard that runs the length of the restaurant, listing entrees from end to end. Even on a busy late Saturday afternoon, we were greeted promptly and seated right away, though open tables were limited. Our drink order was taken and delivered quickly, and the server was ready for our food order whenever we were. The only downside was the wait time -- about 30 minutes from ordering to the table. I had a tough time choosing, but ultimately went with the Ultimate Patty Melt: two ¼-pound patties, grilled onions, grilled peppers, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing on grilled dark rye. The patties were fresh, thick, and clearly hand-formed in the kitchen. The onions and peppers added great flavor, though I found the Thousand Island a bit lacking. Luckily, their fry sauce was excellent and made a perfect table-side substitute. My buddy ordered the Chili Size, which was massive and also featured two ¼-pound patties. As with any chili dish, the chili itself makes or breaks it -- theirs was solid, loaded with both beans and meat, and you could clearly taste the ground beef in every bite. Overall, Parker's delivers a fun, old-school roadside diner experience with huge portions and plenty of burger variety. Perfect stop if you're cruising through Montana on I-90!

It is not a great venue if something goes wrong. My wedding was scheduled for the 13th of July in 2024, which was when the Horse Gulch fire really started popping off and evacuations were in place. We monitored the progression of the fire that week, and at 4:00 pm on the 12th, we chose to call off the event due to health and safety concerns for our loved ones. Summer Star communicated with us throughout the week and said it was still safe to hold the wedding, despite the only road to the ranch being blocked to the public and the fire being only a few miles away. We strongly disagreed given the unpredictability of forest fires and the air quality data my husband (an air quality specialist for the state of Montana) reviewed. We were unwilling to put the lives of 170 people in harm's way. It's crazy to me that they were willing to take that risk. During the phone call in which I informed Matt that we were not comfortable proceeding at Summer Star, he assured me they would fairly reimburse us. As it was the evening before my wedding, which I had to switch to a new venue (Shoutout to Great Divide for saving us last minute!), I did not have the time or mental capacity to nail down details. I really wish I had. They offered us a $1000 refund, to which we countered $3500 (still LESS THAN HALF of the $7500 we paid them to do absolutely nothing). After ghosting us for 4 months, they responded to a legal letter with the following: "Should you pursue legal action or in any way disparage Summer Star Ranch, we will not hesitate to seek costs and take action to protect the financial stability and reputation of our Ranch." That sounds an awful lot like a threat to keep us quiet. Due to other unfortunate life circumstances, we didn't have the energy to pursue anything further. We had signed a contract and would probably spend more on lawyers than it was worth. So, they were paid $7500 for an event that did not take place, ghosted us when we tried to get less than half back, and threatened us. They're not native Montanans and leave the state during the winter, so I guess they have less stake in the community, so maybe I was naive to expect more from a business run by people like that. Separate from all of that, Starr's communication isn't great. I had to double text/email multiple times to get pictures or information that she said she would send for planning purposes before the wedding. I think it's worth mentioning given it's the only experience I had with their standard operating procedures and it was still subpar service. I have never felt so small and taken advantage of as I have in this horrible experience. Proceed with caution.
