So far I think Dr Schaffer is great. He is direct and to the point which I think is great. I had another doctor throw my MRI down and just blurted out " you need a shoulder replacement". I found that attitude to be appalling. Dr Schaffer came up with a plan as I do have a tear and arthritis but as he stated we can treat the tear and if I live long enough we can replace the shoulder but no need to replace the shoulder now. I loved that. He gave me cortisone to see if it helped the tear and it did. By the way the easiest and best cortisone shot that I have ever had by a doctor and I have had a lot. I am forever indebted to Dr. Schaefer for the consultation I was given in between surgeries. He immediately recognized I had a congenital birth defect in both of my knees that my previous surgeon failed to recognize after multiple x-rays, MRI's, and surgeries. This was all before really delving into my medical records. Two surgeries later, my knees are thankful for their new life. I work 50 plus hours a week on my feet and was recommended to get a new job by others. I am able to sustain working long hours on my feet by continuing to take care of myself and following the physical therapy regimen he gave me. I have also seen him for shoulder pain and he made me feel significantly better in days after a cortisone shot. Sometimes he runs a little behind, if you're afraid of a long wait, make a early morning appointment. He never rushes you and has excellent bedside manner. If he was good enough for the United States Olympic ski team, I definitely trust him with treating me. I'll see you soon. I have been seeing Randall Schaffer for years. He is fine as long you are NOT settling a workers comp case. I mean he came in that exam room and shut me down once he found out I wanted to settle. He went from approving all my treatment as far as physical therapy for my rotator cuff, pre-settlement, to denying EVERYTHING once C&R was initiated. I told Randall that I wanted to make sure everything was being done and nothing was over looked. Because I live "out of state" and can't be traveling back and forth, thus the C&R. So I wanted to get whatever Treatment I needed and close the claim. He approved of 12 physical therapy sessions initially.(before he knew I wanted to settle). My physical therapist recommended 12 more sessions. When I went to my follow up appt with Randall he ask me why I needed more treatments. Now, I am the patient not the expert. I was taken aback. It was clear that he switched lanes. I was very upset but didn't let him see it. I left determined to never refer to him as a Dr. again. So, yeah, he is just randall. I have zero respect for him. My case is settled. Moral to story, Randall Schaeffer will screw you over big time and treat you like you're stupid if your settling a workers comp C&R. Brace yourself! read more

Dr Schaefer,is the best in the business. He along with his staff and surgery team are smart, friendly and professional. I have had 5 operations in the past 5-6 years. I don't ask questions, once I get the MRI results I let him direct me in what, where and how are things are going to take place. I have referred 15-18 friends to him and have had zero complaints. read more

I had shoulder surgery on my right shoulder back on Sept. 8, 2015. Dr. Schaefer has been nothing but courteous, friendly and easy to talk to. He did an amazing job on my shoulder. Originally not diagnosed, it turned out that I had a torn rotator cuff, torn labrum, biceps' tendonitis and some arthritis. He took the time to repair all of the above and then some. I have hardly had any pain and it has almost completely healed already. I even took a fall on that arm, which was painful, but his excellent work held up through the fall. I would recommend Dr. Schaefer without hesitation, in fact I am having knee replacement surgery very soon and I wouldn't go to any other surgeon to have this procedure done. By the way, with regards to his bedside manor (all of these bogus negatives), I appreciate his straight forward, no nonsense, no BS approach, when dealing with me and my concerns. Just a note of thanks to Dr. Schaefer and his staff in making my visit very comfortable. I am truly thankful for the cortisone shot I received yesterday that I really don't know where to begin. So I will start with the part that I am most excited about my knee results. My boyfriend Floyd had informed me of how much of a great doctor he was when he learned I was coming to see him, like I told him GREAT is an understatement your EXTRAORDINARY. I truly believe that he's more than a good doctor, I value the fact that he was a good listener. More than being just professional, I also value the fact that his staff's caring attitude was exceptional. Update: After two knee replacements in 2012 and 3015 from Dr. Schafer, I am now back playing tennis. In fact, I've won two tournaments and playing 3-4 x per week. I play on 4-5 teams and doing great! He gave me back my life!! read more

I went to Dr.Schaefer in 2011 for elbow and shoulder injuries. Work related. after x-ray and mri. i received a cortisone shot in the elbow. elbow felt better. shoulder was still hurt. He said he could find nothing wrong with the shoulder. and since the elbow feels better due to the shot. go back to work. He got my workers comp and state disability stopped. I could not work!!! After fighting for my benifits to be reinstated. I went to Dr.Cabayan. who found i have a torn labrum bursitis some other partialy torn muscles all in the shoulder and clavicle. also common extensor tendon at the elbow is split down the middle. I have had one surgery so far. still need more. I don't think DR.Scheafer Likes his job. He just does not seem to care. read more

Dr. Schaefer did my knee surgery. He seems to be a talented orthopedic surgeon. He is a strange person, almost a Asperger's type of personality. He seems to have no concept of his patient's as people. He only seems to be aware of people as objects of his surgical skill. As long as you go along with his way of doing things you will be fine. Also, be prepared to wait- every office visit required a wait of an hour beyond the scheduled time and more. He is a skilled surgeon but a bizarre individual. read more

He and his staff are dedicated and truly helped us through a difficult time. No one wanted to do surgery on my husbands clavicle and it truly needed it. Not only did he agree to do the surgery and do a great job, he also discovered a break in his wrist and referred us to a fantastic hand surgeon. When we went for a second opinion on both, the other Orthopedic surgeon said no, you don't need surgery on either. My last appt. at the end of August 2017 I was very dissatisfied. I waited 75 minutes to be seen, and dr. Schaffer acted like I was just another number. I was not impressed with him at all. I had seen him 6-7 years ago, and thought he was great. He also did my shoulder surgery years ago, but after this last visit I'm not sure I will be back. Maybe he needs to retire or just had a bad day. I do have to say the staff are nice. read more

I'm writing this review as a spouse of a patient. I've worked in health care and have seen my fair share of surgeons who are challenged my their lack of people skills. In my experiences, I have never come across someone with such rudeness and lack of compassion, both to patients and their families He might be a fantastic surgeon in terms of his surgical skills, but that clearly is only a part of medicine. I've tried to be polite and rational in this review, but sadly he is abusive and would benefit from adding compassion to his surgical skills. read more
