My training has really accelerated and gotten on track since signing up with HERO. I now have a training plan truly tailored to my needs and my fitness level. Megan works with you closely and is very professional. I struggle in this new virtual world as I need to see what I'm supposed to be doing and have it demonstrated when learning new workout or exercise. Megan has been great at sending me demonstration videos as I have needed it. In addition she listens to what I'm I need and what I'm asking for and helps keep it fun. All around the best training program and the best training professional I've ever worked with.

With temps in the mid-30s, the Hot Chocolate Run was definitely one of the more challenging events…read morethat I've participated in so far. Be prepared for cold weather - just because it's March, it doesn't mean that it'll be dry or warm during the event. I'd recommend going to the event at least 30 mins before your start time (7AM for the 5K and 8AM for the 15K) so you'll have plenty of time for gear check, the porta potties, etc. The route starts and ends at the Seattle Center, taking 15K participants downtown and then up Hwy 99. I never realized Hwy 99's slight incline until I had to run up it.. (haha!) But you can taste sweet victory at the end with the Finisher's Mug that comes with hot cocoa, melted chocolate and mixed goodies (banana, Rice Krispy, pretzels, etc.). I think the biggest draw though is the snazzy participant jacket thats given to both 5K and 15K participants. I feel like sizes run a bit larger, so order accordingly - but worst case scenario, head to the expo early to switch out for a different size. :) I'd say that the Hot Chocolate Run is great way to beat the mid-winter blues and get outside! :)

It was pretty chilly being in the 30's and next year I will definitely wear gloves and a buff! I loved the jacket! It was really cute! I do wish it was a little thicker and better quality however because there were tons of threads hanging off and parts coming unraveled when I picked it up (none left to exchange). The plastic drawstring bag was cute but I didn't run with it. The marshmallow, noon and water stations were awesome. We were bummed that there weren't any m&m's left at the station but that's what happens when you're in corral L. Overall it was a great run and you get to see lots of the city! The space needle, pikes, Fremont.. It was lots of fun and I could do it again. The hot cocoa and super cute medal were both great ways to end the race.

Working to build and maintain trail systems, educate and train riders, and hosting group rides through out the State. They have built the I-5 Colonnade park as well as many others. I have only been on a few rides with the BBTC but all of them were really fun. I really like the web site and wiki page for finding spots to ride around the sound, and people to ride with. A great organization to volunteer for or just meet some like minded singletrack junkies.

Any time I have a session with Kyle I know that I am going to be pushed to my fullest potential whether it be lifting heavier, conditioning or anything else he has come up with for the day. There were improvements within 3 weeks and I start gaining more strength and flexibility. I was able to do box jumps after 5 weeks. Working out with Kyle is not just burning calories, it also improves my postures and re-activate my dormant muscles. If you have an injury, he will find ways to work around and help with the injured areas and suggest methods to strengthen that. He always pushes you to your limit, thus making you stronger with each workout. He also gives great advice on overall wellness. I moved out of town for a few years and recently came back to Seattle and started training with Kyle again. After all these years working out with different trainers, personally Kyle is still the best. I would highly recommend Kyle.

What stood out the most was the atmosphere. Everyone was genuinely friendly, and the coaches made it a point to come up, introduce themselves, and welcome me in. That kind of culture says a lot about a gym. The owners were just as welcoming--it felt less like being a visitor and more like being part of the team for the day. I got some really good rounds in with a variety of training partners, and everyone was respectful and technical. I had felt the back pain on and off for about a year, but a long flight to Australia (again, so tough to be me) seemed to have escalated that pain to a whole new level. It was getting to a point where little things like getting out of the car was painful to do. I knew Alan had a lot of experience, but I was not expecting him to "cure" my lower back pain. I had previously also gone to massage therapists and chiropractors to consult my lower back pain, which resulted in temporary reliefs. After 4 sessions (as Alan had predicted when we started discussing my treatment plan), I felt like a brand new (wo)man, without ANY trace of pain. What I really like about Alan is that he doesn't try to sell you things. At our first consultation, Alan recommended a treatment plan of 4-6 sessions. With the weekly progress, he could see that I would not need the additional 2 sessions. He sent me away with some homework to strengthen my core, to prevent future back injury, and told me that I could check in with him anytime I wanted. He really knows what he's doing and his rate is beyond reasonable. He also specializes in fitness coaching (as the name suggests), both 1:1 and in group settings, for adults and children. I have yet to try one of his fitness classes, because honestly, I'm scared about getting my ass kicked here. Even though I've splurged to train with some awesome coaches over the years, my laziness often got the best of me and even the restorative workouts at Balanced Fitness was calorie-burning enough for me. That's another great thing about Alan: he has this gravitas about him that makes you feel like you should be trying harder without being condescending or actually saying the obvious, which is: "Wow you really suck at that!" It's been over 2 months now since my last treatment and I'm still pain-free. Regardless of your fitness and health goals, if you're serious about it, you should check out Balanced Fitness.
